<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>This paper examines the effectiveness of a MR damping system with lumped mass for a longitudinal vibration control of two-span bridge, preventing spans from pounding each other and mitigating its seismic responses when earthquake-induced load is inflicted. The MR damping system with lumped mass proposed in this study it was constituted by three components: a MR damper (30kN) which connected two spans of a bridge and two spans themselves made different mass and stiffness. Its function was designed to impose an effective check on relative displacement and pounding. In order to prove its effectiveness, a two-span bridge (8.3m long) was constructed with a MR damper installed beneath the two spans. First, a mathematical model of the bridge was derived; also, a model of the MR damper was verified through a separate test on its performance. Next, shaking table tests were carried out by inflicting 150% of El-centro earthquake and 60% of Kobe earthquake to see how effective the system would be in mitigating seismic responses. All the tests were done under various conditions (un-control, passive off, passive on, Lyapunov control, and Clipped-optional control) in order to closely examine and analyze under which condition mitigation could be maximized and how mitigation could be effected. As a result of the tests, it was found that the MR damping system with lumped mass was effective in preventing two spans from pounding each other and its active performance decreased the relative displacement of the bridge structure. Therefore, it was proven to be effective in attenuating the seismic responses of two-span bridge in longitudinal direction.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The MR damping system with lumped mass is proposed. </LI> <LI> A mathematical modeling of MR damping system with lumped mass is derived. </LI> <LI> Shaking table tests with El-centro(far-filed) and Kobe(near-filed) earthquake load were carried. </LI> </UL> </P>
영화산업 발전단계를 바탕으로 본 문화콘텐츠산업의 정부개입과 산업 성숙도의 연관성

문화콘텐츠 산업은 높은 부가가치를 이끌며, 세계 경제를 주도하는 산업으로 주목받고 있다. 이에 정부는 문화콘텐츠 산업 발전을 위한 방안을 제시하는 노력을 지속적으로 시도하고 있으나, 정부의 산업 개입 방향성에 대한 기준은 모호하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 성숙도의 개념을 도입하여 경험재로서 측정이 어려운 문화콘텐츠의 발전에 정부가 어떠한 개입을 시도해왔는지 알아보고자 한다. 이를 위하여, 본 연구는 한국 영화산업의 현황 및 발전정도를 바탕으로 성숙단계를 구분하고, 각 단계에서 시행되었던 정부정책을 조사하였다. 그 결과, 정부정책이 산업 시스템 구축을 주도하는 방향인 경우, 산업 성숙도는 시장을 구조화하는 단계에서 머물렀고, 자유경쟁 속에서 영세한 창작 기업 및 개인 지원정책으로 변경한 이후 비로소 시장 활성화 단계로 진행했음을 확인할 수 있었다. Entertainment Industry, with high productivity of added value, is noticed as a major industry leading global economy. Thus the government has been constantly attempting to devise various plans for developing entertainment industry, but the plans are mostly come out according to currently faced issues rather than considering the whole industry interior interaction. We are mainly objective to find a ground for estimating the current entertainment industry status. For this, we borrowed the concept of maturity from various capacity maturity estimation tools. We also analyzed Korean film industry as a representative entertainment industry case to find what and how government intervention has affected on the industry.

The use of transvaginal sonography has a great advance in the sonographic evaluation of patients believed to have ectopic pregnancy. Among the 132 patients believed to have ectopic pregnacy, 49 patients confirmed operatively were examined by trqansabdominal and transvaginal ultrasongraphy was more accurate than transabdominal sonography in, detecting the intrauterine pseudogestational saC(4.1% versus 0%), ectopic gestational sac(42.9% versus 33.0%), complex andnexal mass(22.4% versus 16.3%), extrauterine fetal heart beat(18.4% versus 6.1%). Transvaginal ultrasonography was significantly more accurate (p<0.01) in identifying an adnexal gestational sac and allows more detailed adnexal imaging.
Foreign Objects in Korean Prisoners

Background: Foreign objects in the gastrointestinal tract are usually the result of accidental swallowing. Yet foreign object ingestion is often seen in prisoners who mainly desire to leave prison. We report here on a series of 33 Korean prisoners with foreign object ingestion and they were treated endoscopically or surgically. Methods: We reviewed the medical records of 33 Korean prisoners (52 episodes) who were admitted due to ingestion of foreign objects between January 1998 and June 2004 to Konyang University Hospital and Gyeongsang National University Hospital. Results: All the patients were male with a mean age of 35 years. The most common duration from ingestion to the visit to the ER was within 24 hours (25/52 episodes). Most of the foreign objects were located in the esophagus (42.3%) and stomach (42.3%). The number of foreign objects was one in 28 episodes, two in 12 episodes and three or more in twelve episodes. The most common foreign objects were metal wires (26/52 episodes). The mean size of the foreign objects was 11.9 centimeters long. Successful endoscopic treatment was performed in most patients (46/52 episodes, 88.5%). The remaining six cases were treated surgically. Conclusions: The foreign objects in prisoners were a variety of unusual things because of the prison environment, and endoscopy is a mainstay of treatment for foreign object removal in Korean prisoners.
