<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A series of photocrosslinkable multi-block poly(arylene ether sulfone) copolymers containing various block lengths of hydrophilic segments were synthesized. For comparison, a series of random poly(arylene ether) copolymers were also synthesized. The anion exchange membranes(AEMs) were fabricated and in-situ photocrosslinking was carried out by UV irradiation in a swollen state. The microphase-separated morphologies of the multi-block membranes were characterized by SAXS and TEM experiments, and the membrane properties were investigated by measuring ion exchange capacity (IEC), water uptake, water swelling ratio, ionic conductivity, methanol permeability and alkaline stability. IECs and water uptakes of the crosslinked multi-block membranes were in the range of 1.11–1.42 meq g−1 and 14.36–31.01% at 20 °C, respectively. The hydroxide conductivity was in the range of 11.38–25.00 mS cm−1 at 20 °C, and showed a maximum value of 178.77 mS cm−1 at 100 °C. The multi-block membranes exhibited low methanol permeability (2.75 × 10−7 cm2 s−1) at room temperature, which is one order of magnitude lower than that of Nafion® 117 (23.8 × 10−7 cm2 s−1). The crosslinked membranes showed excellent dimensional stability and alkaline stability with only a slight decrease in ionic conductivity. All the multi-block membranes showed superior properties compared to their corresponding random copolymers.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Multi-block poly(arylene ether sulfone) copolymers were synthesized for AEMs. </LI> <LI> <I>In-situ</I> photo-crosslinking was carried out by UV irradiation in hydrated states. </LI> <LI> The block copolymers exhibited hydrophilic/hydrophobic phase separated morphology. </LI> <LI> The block copolymers showed superior properties compare to the random copolymers. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

One of the most commonly used techniques for purification and eventual dispersion of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) is oxidation using strong acid and ultrasonication. Literature review reveals that ultrasonication of varying radiation intensities have been used during the acid oxidation, but few have reported whether ultrasonication of different intensities would have different effects on the structure and properties of SWNTs and how the effects are. An investigation of the effects of ultrasonic radiation intensity on SWNTs during oxidation in a mixture of sulfuric and nitric acids was conducted. Ultrasonication using different intensities (50 W, 100 W, 200 W and 300 W) was used. The acid-treated SWNTs were characterized by scanning and transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, zeta potential test Boehm titration test and Raman spectrum analysis. Data from these experiments showed that high intensities provided stronger oxidizing conditions than lower ones. As ultrasonic intensity increased, larger number of SWNTs were destroyed and consumed to produce carbonaceous impurities, and more defects appeared in the tube walls.
MONOCULAR VISION SLAM RESEARCH FOR PARKING ENVIRONMENT WITH LOW LIGHT
Rui He 한국자동차공학회 2022 International journal of automotive technology Vol.23 No.3
The low light condition poses a challenge when utilizing direct monocular visual simultaneous localization and mapping (vSLAM) in a parking environment. To make the monocular vSLAM perform well under parking environments with low light or illumination alternations, in this paper, we propose a direct monocular vSLAM method that can handle lowlight or illumination changes by using an improved local interpretable model-agnostic explanation (LIME) algorithm. The core of our proposed method is to improve the quality of mapping and camera pose localization accuracy under low-light parking scenes and to estimate the parameters of the improved LIME algorithm. We compare the performance of the improved LIME algorithm and other low-light image processing algorithms on the photos from the high dynamic range (HDR) dataset and our self-collected dataset. In addition, we also compare the performance of our proposed monocular vSLAM method with that of the vSLAM pre-processed by the simultaneous reflection and illumination estimation (SRIE) image processing algorithm. The experimental results show that the proposed method performs better in environment mapping and camera pose localization under parking environments with low light and significant illumination changes than other methods.

He, Rui,Oh, Enche,Ye, Yang,Wen, Pushan,Jeong, Kwang-Un,Lee, Seung Hee,Li, Xiang-Dan,Lee, Myong-Hoon Elsevier 2019 Polymer Vol.176 No.-
<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>This work is aimed to fabricate ultra-thin coatable polarizers on a single substrate based on “host-guest” effect between highly ordered smectic reactive mesogen (RM) and dichroic dye. We designed and synthesized a new tolane-based RM with a highly ordered smectic A phase at room temperature. Polymerizable “host-guest” mixture was formulated from the host RM, dichroic dye and additives, then spin-coated on a single substrate having an alignment layer. Subsequent in-situ photopolymerization by UV irradiation successfully resulted in a coatable polarizer with good polarizing properties. The fabricated coatable polarizer showed a dichroic ratio (DR) of 16.4 and a degree of polarization (DOP) of 99.3% with the thickness of 4 μm. The resulting coatable polarizer possessed a considerable solvent resistance, good thermal stability and robust mechanical properties. Moreover, we prepared a TN-mode LC cell by using the prepared coatable polarizers inside the cell (in-cell), in which the coatable polarizers acted as a polarizer and an alignment layer, simultaneously. The resulting TN cell with in-cell polarizers exhibited a decent electro-optical behavior. We believe that the coatable polarizer proposed in this study possesses practical application potential in ultra-thin LCDs or flexible OLEDs.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Reactive mesogen with smectic A phase was synthesized for coatable polarizer. </LI> <LI> Coatable polarizer was fabricated on a single substrate by “host-guest” method. </LI> <LI> Coatable polarizer exhibits considerable optical property and excellent stability. </LI> <LI> LCD with in-cell structure was demonstrated by using the prepared coatable polarizer. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
Large Physisorption Strain in Chemical Vapor Deposition of Graphene on Copper Substrates
He, Rui,Zhao, Liuyan,Petrone, Nicholas,Kim, Keun Soo,Roth, Michael,Hone, James,Kim, Philip,Pasupathy, Abhay,Pinczuk, Aron American Chemical Society 2012 Nano letters Vol.12 No.5
<P>Graphene single layers grown by chemical vapor deposition on single crystal Cu substrates are subject to nonuniform physisorption strains that depend on the orientation of the Cu surface. The strains are revealed in Raman spectra and quantitatively interpreted by molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. An average compressive strain on the order of 0.5% is determined in graphene on Cu(111). In graphene on Cu (100), MD simulations interpret the observed highly nonuniform strains.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/nalefd/2012/nalefd.2012.12.issue-5/nl300397v/production/images/medium/nl-2012-00397v_0001.gif'></P>
Dieless bulging and nonlinear buckling of longan-shaped pressure hull
He Rui,Zhang Jian,Kaewunruen Sakdirat,Zhan Ming,Liu Ping 대한조선학회 2023 International Journal of Naval Architecture and Oc Vol.15 No.-
In this study, the dieless bulging and nonlinear buckling behaviours of a stainless longan-shaped pressure hull were investigated. According to the Cassini oval equation, the longan shape has a shape index of 0.1. The lengths of the major and minor axes of the designed longan-shaped pressure hull were approximately 400 and 396 mm, respectively. The wall thickness of this pressure hull was 1 mm. The Huberevon Mises stress and first yielding load of the designed longan-shaped shell and its inscribed polyhedral preform were investigated analytically and experimentally. Moreover, the dieless bulging of the designed longan-shaped pressure hull was investigated numerically and experimentally by using the nonlinear finite element method and a hydrostatic test, respectively. The analytical, experimental, and numerical results exhibited good agreement with each other.
Inpatients' Knowledge about Primary Liver Cancer and Hepatitis
He, Wen-Jing,Xu, Ming-Yan,Xu, Rui-Rui,Zhou, Xiao-Qiong,Ouyang, Jun-Jie,Han, Hui,Chen, Geng-Zhen Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.8
Objective: To assess the level of an inpatient population's awareness about hepatitis and primary liver cancer (PLC), the most common type of which is hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and then to initiate education of this group. Methods: A survey was conducted with 1300 participants within the inpatient unit in representative tertiary hospitals in the Chaoshan area of China. Structured questionnaires contained demographic data and statements about different aspects of liver cancer and hepatitis. The questionnaires were completed by trained medical practitioners after they had conducted the interviews. Results: One way ANOVA showed that the sample population lacked adequate knowledge about HCC and hepatitis. Stepwise multiple regression analysis demonstrated that the participant's level of education had the greatest impact on their total knowledge score when other variables remained constant. Conclusions: The study demonstrated: a general lack of awareness amongst the participants about the preventative strategies, and the management options available for people with primary liver cancer and hepatitis; education level was an important factor affecting knowledge levels. The demonstrated deficiencies in people's knowledge about hepatitis and HCC, and their lack of subsequent protective behaviours are likely to play an important role in HCC and hepatitis transmission or prevention.
