To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on thermophilic fungi isolated in Korea. Three species of thermophiles were isolated from compost and were identified as Myriococcum thermophilum, Thermoascus aurantiacus, and Thermomyces lanuginosus. They can grow at temperatures above 50oC and produce high levels of cellulolytic and xylanolytic enzymes at high temperatures. Notably, the considerable thermostability of the endo-glucanase produced by T. aurantiacus has made the fungus an attractive source of industrial enzymes.
Online Users’ Cynical Attitudes Towards Privacy Protection : Examining Privacy Cynicism
Hanbyul Choi,Yoonhyuk Jung 한국경영정보학회 2019 한국경영정보학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2019 No.11
This study aims to examine a role of privacy cynicism in online users’ privacy behaviors. As the complexity of managing online personal information is increasing and data breach incidents frequently occur, online users feel a loss of control over their privacy. Such a situation leads to their cynical attitudes towards privacy protection, called privacy cynicism. In this study, we assume that privacy cynicism is related to a prevailing phenomenon that online users are inclined to be negligent in making efforts to protect their online privacy, despite the perception of privacy threats. Data were gathered from a survey that 281 people participated in and were analyzed with covariance-based structural equation modeling. Findings reveal that privacy cynicism has not only a direct influence on disclosure intention but also moderates an effect of privacy concerns on the intention. Analytical results also revealed a nonlinear effect of privacy cynicism on the outcome variable. This study contributes to online privacy research by developing the concept of privacy cynicism and its significant role in online privacy behaviors.
Evaluation of Cellulolytic Enzyme Production by Indigenous Fungi in Korea
Hanbyul Lee,Young Min Lee,Young Mok Heo,Jaejung Lee,Jae-Jin Kim 한국환경생물학회 2017 환경생물 : 환경생물학회지 Vol.35 No.4
The aim of this study was to select various fungal strains indigenous to Korea that have the potential to produce cellulases, including filter paper activity (FPase), endo-β-1,4-glucanase (EG), and β-glucosidase (BGL). Among the 25 species of Ascomycetes and the 32 species of Basidiomycetes tested in this study, the Bjerkandera adusta KUC10565, Heterobasidion orientale KUC10556, Hyphoderma praetermissum KUC10609, and Trichoderma harzianum KUC1716 all exhibited remarkably high FPase activity. In addition, the T. harzianum KUC1716 showed high levels of EG and BGL activity. This strain has been selected for further study because of their enzymatic potential.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare postoperative outcomes regarding pain and pain management in patients who underwent robot-assisted low anterior resection (RA-LAR) with laparoscopy-assisted low anterior resection (LA-LAR). Methods: Medical records of adult patients who underwent LA-LAR (group L) or RA-LAR (group R) using robotic system (da Vinci Surgical System, Intuitive Surgical Inc., Sunnyvale, CA, USA) were collected prospectively at Chung-Ang University Hospital between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2015. Patients were matched at a 1 to 1 ratio from Group L and R using propensity score-matching method. Intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (IV-PCA) was applied to the patients postoperatively, and the severity of postoperative pain visual analogue scale (VAS) and nausea as the numerical rating scale (NRS) was evaluated. The incidence of vomiting, dizziness, headache, and PCA clamping was also recorded. Additional fentanyl was administered as a rescue analgesic if the VAS score was over 3, and until VAS was less than 3. Results: In the overall series, there was no significant difference between group L and group R regarding pain VAS, nausea NRS, number of vomiting episodes at day 0 and day 1. However, after propensity score analysis, pain VAS and the use of rescue analgesic at day 0 was lower in group L compared to group R (P=0.038, P=0.040). Conclusion: In regards to postoperative pain, RA-LAR did not show clear benefit over LA-LAR.
