      • Iceberg-cubes with Entropy Query for Data Compression Processing

        As the increasing usage of data generating devices like cameras, mobile phones, Auto-ID technologies, and so on, huge amount of data are created. Data compression is very important. In order to use the suitable compression methods on reducing the data volume, this paper uses iceberg-cubes to compress the data based on the entropy query mechanism. Using the definition of iceberg-cubes, this paper uses the entropy query principle for getting the key value from the original datasets. The iceberg-cubes are then used for generating the compressed data which should be stored in the hardware devices. It is observed that these proposed algorithms could achieve 32.46% compression ratio averagely.

        Word Order Change in Mandarin Chinese from the Perspective of Syntactic Typology and Universals― A Case Study of the Ba + Gei Structure

        In this paper, I first compare features in Mandarin that are related to head directionality with those listed in Greenberg (1966) and Dryer (1992) and examine the hypothesis by Tai (1973) and Li& Thompson (1974) that Mandarin is drifting from an SVO to an SOV language. Then, I study the under-studied ba + gei structure in Mandarin, which reflects the possibility of an emerging split case-marking system, i.e., Nominative-Accusative marking in the usually perfective ba + gei structure and zero-marking elsewhere. Data from Korean, Japanese, and Russian further supports the possible reanalysis in the creation of a case-marking system in the ba + gei structure, which is more of a feature of an SOV language.

        Types of Control in Acupuncture Clinical Trials Might Affect the Conclusion of the Trials: A Review of Acupuncture on Pain Management

        Analgesic effects of acupuncture have been extensively studied in various clinical trials. However, the conclusion remains controversial, even among large scale randomized controlled trials. This study aimed to evaluate the association between the conclusion of the trials and the types of control used in those trials via systematic review. Published randomized controlled trials of acupuncture for pain were retrieved from electronic databases (Medline, AMED, Cochrane libraries, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Clinicaltrials.gov, and CAB Abstracts) using a prespecified search strategy. One hundred and thirty-nine studies leading to 166 pairs of acupuncture-control treatment effect comparisons (26 studies comprised of 53 intervention-control pairs) were analyzed based on the proportion of positive conclusions in different control designs. We found that treatment effects of acupuncture compared with nontreatment controls had the highest tendency to yield a positive conclusion (84.3%), compared with nonneedle-insertion controls (53.3%). Whereas with needle-insertion controls, the lowest tendency of positive conclusions was observed (37.8%). Consistently, in studies reporting successful blinding, a higher tendency of positive findings on the treatment effect of acupuncture was found in the noninsertion sham controls compared with that in the insertion sham controls. We conclude that the type of control is likely to affect the conclusion in acupuncture analgesic trials. Appropriate control should be chosen according to the aims of studies.         Genome Shuffling to Improve Fermentation Properties of Topfermenting Yeast by the Improvement of Stress Tolerance

        Fermentation properties of top-fermenting yeast are under the control of multiple genes difficult to manipulate directly by classical breeding, metabolic engineering, or other genetic methods with specific genes or pathways as target. Here, genome shuffling is introduced to improve fermentation performance (such as the viability of the yeast, flavor of beer, and the fermentation time) by improving wort and ethanol tolerance of top-fermenting yeast. The strategy was performed not based on polyethylene glycol (PEG)-mediated protoplast fusion but using yeast sexual and asexual reproduction by itself. The best performing strain W3-8 was selected on the selective plates after 3 rounds of genome shuffling. The fermentation time of W3-8 was not only markedly shortened, but also, most flavor compounds were distinctly improved. In particular,ethanol yield was increased by up to 67% after the 3rd pitching compared with the control. Furthermore, W3-8promoted desired amounts of esters and higher alcohols, in accordance with specific consumer preferences. Significant improvement in the fermentation traits of the topfermenting yeast was achieved using genome shuffling.

        Multifractal-based Multiplicative Cascades Model for Network Applications

        A computer network is a telecommunications network that allows computers to share, exchange, and transmit data. Thus, the network flow rate is very critical. How to measure the flow rate attracted large number of attentions from both academia and practical parties. This paper proposes a multifractal-based multiplicative cascades model for network applications, especially to analyze the test the network flow rate. It is observed that the fitting is well so that the proposed model is able to work out the flow rate in the network applications. In addition, the model using the multifractal-based multiplicative cascades is able to illustrate the trends of the flow rate in the network applications.

        A Case Study of the Acquisition of Mandarin Classifiers

        In this paper, I examine the acquisition data of a Mandarin-speaking child Bao-Bao (2;2.7) to study his acquisition of Mandarin classifiers, which are obligatory when a demonstrative or a numeral occurs. I argue that despite the poor input from the caregiver, the child is aware of the classifier projection and the selectional syntactic relation within a Mandarin DP from an early age, which is consistent with the Strong Continuity Hypothesis (Lust 1999). I then offer arguments with respect to processing restrictions and syntactic parameter-setting to explain why the child omits and misuses classifiers. A phonological account will also be examined.

        With the development of computer and Internet technology, the concept of cloud computing has been accepted by related industries worldwide, especially on the development in the field of telecommunications and electronic commerce field rapidly. This paper introduces the meaning, characteristics of cloud computing, advantages and service pattern, and with the introduction of technology development present situation and the crisis of confidence by the cloud computing, describes the safety bottleneck problems faced in the promotion process of the cloud calculation. This paper presents cloud service trust model based on third party certification, and then through the analysis and study of the model, describes the security situation in the presence of third party certification body under the condition of cloud services, the Nash equilibrium solution; and the general cloud computing and e-commerce trust system were compared, the third party authentication mechanism can effectively play its advantages in supervision, has the huge influence of credit risk rating on its own transactions and future credit decision.

        Single cell transcriptome dynamics from pluripotency to FLK1<sup>+</sup> mesoderm

        <P>Hemangiogenic progenitors generating blood and endothelial cells are specified from FLK1-expressing (FLK1<SUP>+</SUP>) mesoderm by the transcription factor ETV2. FLK1<SUP>+</SUP> mesoderm also contributes to smooth muscle and cardiomyocytes. However, the developmental process of FLK1<SUP>+</SUP> mesoderm generation and its allocation to various cell fates remain obscure. Recent single cell RNA-sequencing studies of early embryos or <I>in vitro</I>-differentiated human embryonic stem (ES) cells have provided unprecedented information on the spatiotemporal resolution of cells in embryogenesis. These snapshots, however, lack information on continuous dynamic developmental processes. Here, we performed single cell RNA sequencing of <I>in vitro</I>-differentiated mouse ES cells to capture the continuous developmental process leading to hemangiogenesis. We found that hemangiogenic progenitors from ES cells develop through intermediate gastrulation stages, which are gradually specified by ‘relay’-like highly overlapping transcription factor modules. Moreover, the transcriptional program of the <I>Flk1<SUP>+</SUP></I> mesoderm was maintained in the smooth muscle lineage, suggesting that smooth muscle is the default fate of <I>Flk1<SUP>+</SUP></I> mesoderm. We also identified the SRC kinase contributing to ETV2-mediated activation of the hemangiogenic program. This continuous transcriptome map will facilitate both basic and applied studies of mesoderm development.</P><P><B>Summary:</B> Continuous transcriptome analysis of hemangiogenesis from embryonic stem cells reveals intermediate gastrulation stages that are gradually specified by overlapping transcription factor modules and default smooth muscle fate of FLK1 mesoderm.</P>
