        Feedback in Interpreter Training

For students to acquire the skills and develop from a novice to a journeyman, feedback is one important component of the training process. This presentation hopes to explore the relationship of feedback and skill development, the various forms of feedback and how they can be effectively used to contribute to students’ learning process.

        A flow rate on-line monitoring method for piezoelectric pump based on self-sensing circuit

        This paper presents a new flow rate monitoring method for a piezoelectric micropump based on a self-sensing circuit. Utilizing the voltage generated by the secondary direct piezoelectric effect as the sensing voltage, a soft sensor of the piezoelectric actuator can be implemented onto the piezoelectric micropump. A bridge-type circuit is proposed as the selfsensing circuit, the piezoelectric micropump is fabricated with a circular piezoelectric actuator, the characteristics of the self-sensing voltage and the flow rate are experimentally investigated under different excitation voltages and frequencies. The results show that the method can accurately determine optimal frequency of the micropump (100 Hz, 280 Hz), and for a fixed frequency of 100 Hz and a voltage range of 50-180 V, the correlation between the self-sensing voltage and the flow rate is 0.9732. As a result, the method demonstrated in this paper allows precise monitoring of the flow rate of the piezoelectric micropump without using external sensors.

        The Prognostic Value of CD8+ and CD45RO+ T Cells Infiltration and Beclin1 Expression Levels for Early Postoperative Cholangitis of Biliary Atresia Patients after Kasai Operation

        Background: Postoperative cholangitis is a common but severe complication after Kasai portoenterostomy for biliary atresia (BA). This study aimed to identify its prognostic factors Methods: Two sets of liver paraffin-embedded tissue samples were collected from BA patients who received Kasai portoenterostomy (n = 25 and n = 31, respectively). Patients were divided into non-cholangitis and cholangitis groups. The infiltration of CD4+ , CD8+ , CD45RO+ , CD68+ cells and expression of Beclin1 were quantitatively evaluated in immunohistochemical analysis. Results: Cholangitis group had a significantly lower CD8+ T cell infiltration but a higher CD45RO+ cell infiltration, and a lower Beclin1 level than non-cholangitis group (all P < 0.01). Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that infiltration of CD8+ cells (odds ratio [OR], 0.112; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.022–0.577) and CD45RO+ cells (OR, 3.88; 95% CI, 1.37–11.03), and Beclin1 level (OR, 0.088; 95% CI, 0.018–0.452) were independent influence factors for early postoperative cholangitis. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis showed that area under ROC curve (AUROC) values for CD8+ cells, CD45RO+ cells and Beclin1 were 0.857, 0.738 and 0.900, respectively. Conclusion: Our findings demonstrated the CD8+ cells, CD45RO+ cells and Beclin1 level possessed the prognostic value for early postoperative cholangitis following Kasai operation, which may be helpful to develop new prevention and treatment strategies for postoperative cholangitis.

        Effects of Grain Boundary on {100} Recrystallization Texture of High Silicon Electrical Steel

        In this study, high silicon electrical steel (Fe-6.5 wt% Si alloy) as-cast ingot with columnar grains was prepared bydirectional solidification. Additionally, equiaxed-grained samples with different initial grain sizes were fabricatedby casting, rolling and annealing at different temperatures. The deformation band, dislocation morphology andrecrystallization texture of these samples during subsequent rolling and annealing were investigated. The effects ofinitial grain boundary directions of columnar-grained samples and initial grain sizes (grain boundary densities) ofequiaxed-grained samples on the {100} recrystallization texture of high silicon electrical steel were analyzed. Theresults showed that the grain boundaries played an important role in the formation of the {100} recrystallizationtexture. Due to a low dislocation density (low deformation stored energy) after rolling, the samples without grainboundaries parallel to transverse direction (e.g. rolling along the axis of the columnar grains) or with small grainboundary densities (e.g. large initial grain sizes) were favorable to the formation of a {100} recrystallization textureduring annealing.

        The solids concentration distribution in the deep cone thickener: A pilot scale test

        Cemented backfill or surface deposition of paste tailings is increasingly being considered as a simple and effective means of reducing the hazards of conventional slurry deposition and recovering water for recycle. Although gravity thickening has been widely used in the mineral industry to increase the solids concentration of tailings, the accurate prediction of the concentration distribution in three-dimensions and discontinuous operational state has proven to be difficult. We investigated the axial and radial solids concentration distribution at discontinuous state in a pilot deep cone thickener as a function of bed height and residence time. The feed flux of lead/zinc tailings was 0.254 t·h−1·m−2 with a flocculant (high molecular weight anionic polyacrylamide) dose of 20 g/t. The thickened solids bed was sheared by a rotating rake at a rate of 0.2 rpm. The underflow was recirculated at a flux of 0.5 t·h−1·m−2, which can introduce additional shear stresses into the bed. The results of the bed density profile showed that, beside the clarification zone, the area below the feedwell could be divided into four zones: the dilution zone caused by free settling and diffusing action, the hindered settling zone in which the concentration was lower than the gel point, the unraked bed zone with a large concentration gradient and, finally, the raking zone with the highest slurry concentration and lower concentration gradient.

        Highly efficient generation of T-DNA insertion lines and isolation of flanking sequence tags (FSTs) of Brachypodium distachyon

        Brachypodium distachyon (Brachypodium) has been developed as a model system for the temperate grasses. Hence, establishing a large insertion mutant population and identifying T-DNA insertion sites are imperative for functional genomics studies. Currently, Brachypodium has an established T-DNA collection resource, but it is far less than needed. In addition, the conventional methods for the isolation of flanking sequence tags (FSTs) characterizing the T-DNA inserts, such as TAIL-PCR, adapter ligation-mediated PCR, and inverse PCR, are time-consuming, laborious, and expensive. In this study, Agrobacterium-mediated transformation system was optimized to generate T-DNA mutants. Approximately 7000 T-DNA insertion lines were obtained. Furthermore, a simple and highly efficient method was developed to isolate T-DNA flanking sequence tags (FSTs). The procedures simplified the multi-step reaction that is required for the conventional inverse PCR and several reactions were conducted within a microscale reaction system in one tube. It is flexible to isolate FSTs for either individual or large numbers of T-DNA lines. To rapidly process the large-scale sequence data, a serial of Perl scripts were developed using the Perl Programming Language (http://www.perl.org). Using these methods, a total of 794 flanking sequences were isolated and analyzed in detail. Although the methods were developed in the process of isolating and analyzing T-DNA flanking sequences of Brachypodium, it can be applied to other plants.

      • Examination and Nomination in the Indianization of ICS: Phases and Influences

        인도 문관 제도의 토착화(/인도화)는 인도 토착민들이 여러 상이한 경로들을 통해 식민 정부의 문관이 되는 하나의 과정이었다. 이 토착화 과정은 인도가 식민지에서 독립국가로 변형되는 과정에서 대단히 중요한 역할을 수행했다. 인도인들은 문관 시험과 임명이라는 두 가지 방식을 통해 식민 정부의 문관이 되었던 바, 이 방식들은 문관 제도의 토착화에 상이한 영향들을 끼쳤다. 문관 제도의 토착화는 크게 세 시기로 구분할 수 있다. 첫 번째 시기는 영국 의회가 식민 인도의 관료 사회를 통제했던 시기이다. 이 시기, 식민 인도의 관료들은 동인도 회사가 임명하거나 예비 시험을 거쳐 선발한 이들이었다. 이들은 식민 인도의 행정을 관장하기 위한 독점적 지배 카스트로서 기능했다. 두 번째 시기에 접어들어 영국 정부는 문관을 임명하던 관행을 없애고 공채를 전면 시행했지만, 이 공개 시험은 주로 영국인들 사이의 경쟁이 되고 말았다. 그러자 서구식 교육을 받은 인도 토착 지식인층으로부터 정치권력을 나누어달라는 요구가 거세게 일었고, 식민 정부는 이 압력에 대처하기 위해 인도인들을 대상으로 문관을 지명해야 했다. 세 번째 시기, 자유 운동의 도전에 직면하여 식민 정부는 문관 채용 시험을 공개적으로 시행했다. 이는 인도 토착 지식인들의 호감을 얻고, 식민 정부 내 유럽인 문관들의 결손을 충원하기 위해서였다. 하지만 임명 방식의 문관 채용도 여전히 존재했다. 왜냐하면 인도인들은 공채를 통해 속속 문관이 되고 있었고, 식민 정부로서는 인도인 문관들과 유럽인 문관들의 수적 균형을 유지해야 했기 때문이다. 이 과정에서 우리는 다음과 같은 점을 발견할 수 있다. 즉, 인도 중간계급의 성장에 기반을 둔 합리적 관료군의 부상(浮上)에도 불구하고,식민 정부는 언제나 문관 채용에서 공개 경쟁이라는 보편적 원칙을 적용하길 거부했다는 점 말이다. 문관 공채와 지명은 포스트식민 인도의 정치에 각기 다른 영향을 끼쳤다. Through the history of Indianization of the ICS, and the impact of the examination and the nomination, the paper tries to elucidate the essence of the colonial regime by finding some anomalies in the monolithic, sublime ICS of colonial context. When the Indian westernized intellectuals hoped to be involved in the administration and to share the rights and interests of government, the colonial government appropriated the examination to maintain the British characteristics and granted implicit patronage to the metropolitan middle class. At the same time, the colonial government always patronized the children of influential families to counter India westernized intellectuals’appeal of participating in the regime on the achievement base. The provincial Civil Service was also left to the patronage of the colonial government. When the Indians strengthened their national consciousness and the constitutional reform set out, the British were forced to accelerate the process of Indianization in ICS through the open competitive examination. However in the constitutional reform process, the colonial government strengthened and exploited the ethnic, communal and castes’ claim of posts in the public service to prevent the colonial Indian bourgeoisie and middle classes from establishing and consolidating their dominant position.
