      • Output Characteristics of Linear Switched Reluctance Motor with YBCO Tape Conductors

Hirayama, Tadashi,Asakawa, Shinichiro,Kawabata, Shuma Journal of International Conference on Electrical 2013 Journal of international Conference on Electrical Vol.2 No.4

This paper presents output characteristics of a linear switched reluctance motor (LSRM) with excitation windings wound by using high-temperature superconducting (HTS) tapes. In a double-sided LSRM, Bi-2223 or YBCO tape conductors are used for the excitation windings. The characteristics of the LSRM are obtained by a finite element method analysis. We can obtain large thrust compared with a conventional LSRM by using YBCO tape conductors. Also, the effect of a configuration of the YBCO coil on the thrust is calculated. We discuss a suitable coil configuration for the average thrust upgrading.

Effects of the addition of low-dose ketamine to propofol anesthesia in the dental procedure for intellectually disabled patients

Hirayama, Akira,Fukuda, Ken-ichi,Koukita, Yoshihiko,Ichinohe, Tatsuya The Korean Dental Society of Anesthsiology 2019 Journal of Dental Anesthesia and Pain Medicine Vol.19 No.3

Background: This study aimed to examine whether the combination of low-dose ketamine and propofol in deep sedation is clinically useful in controlling the behavior in intellectually disabled patients who are typically extremely noncooperative during dental procedures. Methods: A total of 107 extremely noncooperative intellectually disabled adult patients were analyzed. In all patients, deep sedation was performed using either propofol alone (group P) or using a combination of propofol and 0.2 mg/kg or 0.4 mg/kg ketamine (groups PK0.2 and PK0.4, respectively). The procedures were performed in the order of insertion of nasal cannula into the nostril, attachment of mouth gag, and mouth cleaning and scaling. The frequency of patient movement during the procedures, mean arterial pressure, heart rate, peripheral oxygen saturation, recovery time, discharge time, and postoperative nausea and vomiting were examined. Results: The three groups were significantly different only in the frequency of patient movement upon stimulation during single intravenous injection of propofol and scaling. Conclusion: For propofol deep sedation, in contrast to intravenous injection of propofol alone, prior intravenous injection of low-dose ketamine (0.4 mg/kg) is clinically useful because it neither affects recovery, nor causes side effects and can suppress patient movement and vascular pain during procedures.

Is Caffeine Intake Associated With Urinary Incontinence in Japanese Adults?

Hirayama, Fumi,Lee, Andy H. The Korean Society for Preventive Medicine 2012 Journal of Preventive Medicine and Public Health Vol.45 No.3

Objectives: To investigate whether caffeine intake is associated with urinary incontinence (UI) among Japanese adults. Methods: A total of 683 men and 298 women aged 40 to 75 years were recruited from the community in middle and southern Japan. A validated food frequency questionnaire was administered face-to-face to obtain information on dietary intake and habitual beverage consumption. Urinary incontinence status was ascertained using the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form. Results: Mean daily caffeine intake was found to be similar between incontinent subjects (men 120 mg, women 94 mg) and others without the condition (men 106 mg, women 103 mg), $p$=0.33 for men and $p$=0.44 for women. The slight increases in risk of UI at the highest level of caffeine intake were not significant after adjusting for confounding factors. The adjusted odds ratios (95% confidence interval) were 1.36 (0.65 to 2.88) and 1.12 (0.57 to 2.22) for men and women, respectively. Conclusions: No association was evident between caffeine intake and UI in middle-aged and older Japanese adults. Further studies are required to confirm the effect of caffeine in the prevention of UI.

      • SINTERED -TiC SUBSTRATE FOR THIN FILM MAGNETIC HEAD

        Nakano Osamu,Hirayama Takasi 한국분말야금학회 1998 한국분말야금학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.1998 No.1

In 1957, the first magnetic disk drive compatible with a movable head was introduced as an external file memory device for computer system. Since then, magnetic disks have been improved by increasing the recording density, which has brought about the development of a high performance thin film magnetic head. The thin film magnetic head has a magnetic circuit on a ceramic substrate using IC technology. The physical property of the substrate material is very important because it influences the tribology of head/disk interface and also manufacturing process of the head. -TiC ceramics, so called ALTIC, is known to be one of the best substrate materials which satisfies this property requirement. Even though the head is not in direct contact with the disk, frequent instantaneous contacts are unavoidable due to its high rotating speed and the close gap between them. This may cause damage in the magnetic recording media and, thus, it is very important that the magnetic head has a good wear resistance. -TiC ceramics has an excellent tribological property in head/disk interface. Manufacturing process of thin film head is similar to that of IC, which requires extremely smooth and flat surface of the substrate. The substrate must be readily sliced into the heads without chipping. -TiC ceramics has excellent machineability and mechanical properties. -TiC ceramics was first developed at Nippon Tungsten Co. as cutting tool materials in 1968, which was further developed to be used as the substrate materials for thin film head in collaboration with Sumitomo Special Metals Co., Ltd. in 1981. Today, we supply more than 60% of the substrates for thin film head market in the world. In this paper, we would like to present the sintering process of -TiC ceramics and its property in detail.

      • Communication Problems in the Universal Studios Japan

HIRAYAMA Hiroshi 한국경영교육학회 2017 한국경영교육학회 학술발표대회논문집 Vol.2017 No.11

Universal Studios Japan is the theme park which was opened on 31 March, 2001.It counted 11,000,000 visitors in the first fiscal year, but after that, there are various disgraceful affairs, too, and Universal Studios Japan decreases the number of visitors every year. Because USJ was an organization called the third sector which consists of Osaka-shi、the U.S.A. Universal Studios main office and the investment companies, it seems that it was a factor that communication problems were insufficient. In this paper, as for the communication problem at such Universal Studios Japan, as for the movement for the problem solution under new president, we discuss the based on the degree of the identification and indifference. As the conclusion, Universal Studios Japan needs the continuity of the action which takes notice of the communication problems.

Effects of Heat Exposure and Restricted Feeding on Behavior, Digestibility and Growth Hormone Secretion in Goats

Hirayama, Takuji,Katoh, Kazuo Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2004 Animal Bioscience Vol.17 No.5

Heat stress is known to affect physiological systems in goats. This study investigated changes in nutrient digestibility, behavior and growth hormone secretion among goats in a hot environment (H; 35${\pm}$ 1.2$^{\circ}C$, [RH] 80${\pm}$7.2%, 13 d), and in a thermoneutral environment (T; 20${\pm}$0.6$^{\circ}C$, [RH] 80${\pm}$3.4%, 20 d), and accompanied by the same restricted diet as provided in the hot environment. The following results were obtained: rectal temperature and water intake were higher in the H treatment than in the T treatment or TR treatment, while hay consumption was lower. CP, NDF and ADF digestibility was highest in H treatment. Time spent eating in the H treatment was also the highest, followed in order by T treatment and TR treatment. Ruminating time was lower in H treatment than in T treatment or TR treatment, and reposing time was highest in the TR treatment. Growth hormone concentrations in T increased 4.5 h after feeding. In H, growth hormone concentrations increased 0.5 h after feeding. However, growth hormone concentrations were not changed following TR feeding. In conclusion, heat exposure in goats decreased feed intake, but increased digestibility. However, when goats in a thermoneutral environment received the same restricted feeding as they received in the hot environment, digestibility increased. Between the H treatment and TR treatment, the changes in digestibility were accomplished by coordinate changes in hormone secretion in order to maintain body homeostasis. To maintain energy balance under a hot temperature or a restricted feeding condition, goats may control their metabolism by changing growth hormone release.

Evaluation of DNA Damage Using Microwave Dielectric Absorption Spectroscopy

Hirayama, Makoto,Matuo, Youichirou,Sunagawa, Takeyoshi,Izumi, Yoshinobu The Korean Association for Radiation Protection 2016 방사선방어학회지 Vol.41 No.4

Background: Evaluation of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)-strand break is important to elucidate the biological effect of ionizing radiations. The conventional methods for DNA-strand break evaluation have been achieved by Agarose gel electrophoresis and others using an electrical property of DNAs. Such kinds of DNA-strand break evaluation systems can estimate DNA-strand break, according to a molecular weight of DNAs. However, the conventional method needs pretreatment of the sample and a relatively long period for analysis. They do not have enough sensitivity to detect the strand break products in the low-dose region. Materials and Methods: The sample is water, methanol and plasmid DNA solution. The plasmid DNA pUC118 was multiplied by using Escherichia coli JM109 competent cells. The resonance frequency and Q-value were measured by means of microwave dielectric absorption spectroscopy. When a sample is located at a center of the electric field, resonance curve of the frequency that existed as a standing wave is disturbed. As a result, the perturbation effect to perform a resonance with different frequency is adopted. Results and Discussion: The resonance frequency shifted to higher frequency with an increase in a concentration of methanol as the model of the biological material, and the Q-value decreased. The absorption peak in microwave power spectrum of the double-strand break plasmid DNA shifted from the non-damaged plasmid DNA. Moreover, the sharpness of absorption peak changed resulting in change in Q-value. We confirmed that a resonance frequency shifted to higher frequency with an increase in concentration of the plasmid DNA. Conclusion: We developed a new technique for an evaluation of DNA damage. In this paper, we report the evaluation method of DNA damage using microwave dielectric absorption spectroscopy.

Neoliberalism and Low-income Housing in Japan

Hirayama, Yosuke Land and Housing Institute 2013 LHI journal of land, housing, and urban affairs Vol.4 No.1

Over the past three decades, neoliberalism has been pervasive and even normative in reorganizing housing systems, encouraging a decline in low-income housing. However, the way in which neoliberal prescriptions have impacted on housing processes has not necessarily been the same but has rather differed according to the indigenous social, economic, political, and institutional contexts of particular countries. In the case of Japan, neoliberalization has effectively combined with a traditionally residualized public housing to affect housing circumstances surrounding low-income people. This article explores transformations in low-income housing in Japan to demonstrate the importance of specific housing contexts in particular societies, in terms of looking at the impact neoliberalism has had on housing processes.
