        Study on Drilling Ground Collapse Induced by Groundwater Flow and Prevention Based on a Coupled CFD-DEM Method

        Given the hazards caused by drilling ground collapse (DGC) due to groundwater flow in the processes of geotechnical engineering investigation, a coupled computational fluid dynamics and discrete element method (CFD-DEM) method is adopted to numerically simulate the development of hazards. An improved coupling program is employed to realize the two-way coupling between open-source CFD code OpenFOAM and commercial DEM software PFC3D. The coupling program allows complex meshes generated by ANSYS ICEM to be imported into PFC3D. The feasibility and accuracy of the CFD-DEM method are first verified by simulating a single spherical particle settling in hydrostatic water and the formation of the repose angle of sandpiles. Then, this method is adopted to investigate the patterns of stratum deformation and foundation loss, typical particle flow processes, and characteristics of drilling rig toppling. Finally, measures for prevention of DGC induced by groundwater flow are discussed in detail. Two typical strata, including a water-rich sand stratum and a water-rich sand-clay compound stratum, are considered. The research results show that for the water-rich sand stratum, DGC induces a “bowl”-shaped settlement trough, and the maximum value of ground surface settlement is proportional to the foundation loss rate. For the water-rich sand-clay compound stratum, a “jar”-shaped settlement trough is created. Four typical particle flow processes are involved in DGC. The drilling rig topples toward the center of the settlement trough. The maximum displacement appears at the top of the tower and has an approximate linear correlation with the groundwater flow velocity. The measures and methods of DGC prevention are also summarized in detail. The results of this research provide a reference for hazard prevention and delicacy control of DGC induced by groundwater flow.

        Applying the Fuzzy Decision-Making Method for Program Evaluation and Management Policy of Vietnamese Higher Education

        Education policy is a dynamic process featuring social development trends. The world countries have focused their education program on empowering the learners for future life and work. This paper aims to assess the higher education curriculum based on a survey of 280 students, employers, alumni, and lecturers in both social sciences and natural sciences in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The fuzzy decision-making method, namely the Fuzzy Extent Analysis Method (F-EAM), was applied to measure the relative weight of each parameter. Seven factors under the curriculum development have been put in the ranking. Input with emphasis on foreign language was the highest priority in curriculum development, given the expected demand of the labor market. Objective and learning outcome and teaching activities ranked second and third, respectively. The traditional triangle of teaching content, methodology, and evaluation and assessment are still proven their roles, but certain modifications have been defined in the advanced curriculum. Teaching facilities had the least weight among the seven dimensions of curriculum development. The findings are helpful for education managers to efficiently allocate scarce resources to reform the curriculum to bridge the undergraduate quality gap between labor supply and demand, meeting the dynamic trends of social development.

        다차원적 브랜드 글로벌화가 스포츠웨어 브랜드의 품질;명성;태도;구매의도에 미치는 영향 : 중국 소비자를 중심으로

        Purpose This study examined the effects of the multiple dimensions of perceived brand globalness on brand quality;prestige;attitude;and purchase intention of Chinese consumers. Moreover;the study investigated the moderating effects of consumer ethnocentrism. Design/Methodology/Approach The study included 470 male and female respondents who purchased sportswear products in China. The data analyses software used for the study were SPSS 22.0 for exploratory factor analysis;and AMOS 25.0 for confirmatory factor analysis and path analysis. Findings Results showed that perceived brand globalness is divided into three factors such as perceived market reach;perceived standardization;and global consumer culture positioning. Path analysis results revealed that all factors relative to perceived brand globalness are positively related to prestige. There were positive effects of quality and prestige on attitude and purchase intention. In addition;there were moderating effects of consumer ethnocentrism on the relationships among the variables. Research Implications Based on the results of the study;the marketing strategies for global brands targeting Chinese consumers can be effectively crafted and implemented.

        Parametric Study on Cyclic Behavior of Modular Assembly Composite Walls with Connection to Boundary Beam

        This study focuses on the investigation of seismic performance of modular assembly composite shear wall (MACW) system, which is connected to boundary beams only. The fi nite element method is employed to establish the numerical model of the MACW system and experimental data is adopted to validate the simulation. To clearly show the seismic performance of the system, seven design parameters with 36 computational cases, including height-to-span and height-to-thickness ratios of steel plate, bolt spacing, spacing between the concrete plate and connection steel plate, thicknesses of the connection steel plate and concrete plate, and the number of composite wall modules, are discussed on mechanical property and energy dissipation capacity in details. The results show that ratios of height-to-span and height-to-thickness have a signifi cant infl uence on mechanical bearing and energy dissipation properties in comparison to the other fi ve parameters. Combining systematic seismic behaviors, such as hysteresis property, out-of-plane displacement, and equivalent damping ratio, the optimal values of the above seven parameters are recommended to be 2, 600, 100, 30, 8, 50, and 2 mm respectively. Stiff ness ratios between the post-yield and initial stiff ness of all the 36 models are mainly in the range of (2.6%, 5.5%).

        Concurrent Hypermethylation of SFRP2 and DKK2 Activates the Wnt/β-Catenin Pathway and Is Associated with Poor Prognosis in Patients with Gastric Cancer

        Aberrant hypermethylation of Wnt antagonists has been observed in gastric cancer. A number of studies have focused on the hypermethylation of a single Wnt antagonist and its role in regulating the activation of signaling. However, how the Wnt antagonists interacted to regulate the signaling pathway has not been reported. In the present study, we systematically investigated the methylation of some Wnt antagonist genes (SFRP2, SFRP4, SFRP5, DKK1, DKK2, and APC) and their regulatory role in carcinogenesis. We found that aberrant promoter methylation of SFRP2, SFRP4, DKK1, and DKK2 was significantly increased in gastric cancer. Moreover, concurrent hypermethylation of SFRP2 and DKK2 was observed in gastric cancer and this was significantly associated with increased expression of -catenin, indicating that the joint inactivation of these two genes promoted the activation of the Wnt signaling pathway. Further analysis using a multivariate Cox proportional hazards model showed that DKK2 methylation was an independent prognostic factor for poor overall survival, and the predictive value was markedly enhanced when the combined methylation status of SFRP2 and DKK2 was con-sidered. In addition, the methylation level of SFRP4 and DKK2 was correlated with the patient’s age and tumor differentiation, respectively. In conclusion, epigenetic silencing of Wnt antagonists was associated with gastric carcinogenesis, and concurrent hypermethylation of SFRP2 and DKK2 could be a potential marker for a prognosis of poor overall survival.

        3D Res-Inception Network Transfer Learning for Multiple Label Crowd Behavior Recognition

        The problem towards crowd behavior recognition in a serious clustered scene is extremely challenged on account of variable scales with non-uniformity. This paper aims to propose a crowed behavior classification framework based on a transferring hybrid network blending 3D res-net with inception-v3. First, the 3D res-inception network is presented so as to learn the augmented visual feature of UCF 101. Then the target dataset is applied to fine-tune the network parameters in an attempt to classify the behavior of densely crowded scenes. Finally, a transferred entropy function is used to calculate the probability of multiple labels in accordance with these features. Experimental results show that the proposed method could greatly improve the accuracy of crowd behavior recognition and enhance the accuracy of multiple label classification.

        Molecular characterization of Japanese encephalitis virus strains prevalent in Chinese swine herds

        Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is the leading cause of viral encephalitis in Asia and domestic pigs serve as the amplifying hosts. In the present study, the full genomic sequences of two JEV strains (HEN0701 and SH0601) isolated from pigs in China were determined and compared with other 12 JEV strains deposited in GenBank. These two strains had an 88.8% nucleotide sequence similarity and 97.9% deduced amino acid sequence homology. HEN0701 had high nucleotide sequence and high amino acid sequence identity with genotype I (GI) strains, while SH0601 had high nucleotide sequence and high amino acid sequence identity with GIII strains at both the gene and full genome levels. Further phylogenetic analysis showed that HEN0701 belonged to the JEV GI group and SH0601 was classified as a GIII strain. Analysis of codon usage showed there were a few differences between the GI and GIII strains in nucleotide composition and codon usage for the open reading frames.

        Identification and expression analysis of cytochrome P450 genes in Plecoptera oculata (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

        Cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (CYPs) play an important role in the decomposition of insecticides. Plecoptera oculata Moore is a lepidopteran forestry pest that severely affects Dalbergia odorifera T. Chen. In this study, 27 putative CYP genes were identified in the transcriptome of larval P. oculata. Phylogenetic analysis showed that these genes are grouped into four clans, 15 families, and 22 subfamilies. The tissue-specific expression profile for each gene was determined using real-time reverse transcription-quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR), and the 27 genes were found to be ubiquitously expressed, mainly in the midgut, Malpighian tubules, and fat body. The expression profiles of all 27 PoCYP genes exposed to half the lethal concentration (LC50) of sendebao and lambda-cyhalothrin were determined using RT-qPCR. The results showed that six and twelve PoCYP genes were significantly down- and up-regulated, respectively, by exposure to sendebao, and three and twelve PoCYP genes were significantly down- and up-regulated, respectively, by exposure to lambda-cyhalothrin. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to show the expression of CYP genes in P. oculata. Our results provide a basis for further investigation of the roles of PoCYP genes in insecticide detoxification and as potential targets for novel pesticides.

        Osteogenesis and Chondrogenesis of Primary Rabbit Periosteal Cells under Non-uniform 2-Axial Tensile Strain

        Periosteal cells are the major cell sources of skeletal progenitors for fracture callus. In order to promote bone repair and cartilage formation, besides the application of exogenous growth factors, physical stimulation is an alternative approach to guide cell differentiation. Investigation of appropriate conditions is essential for forming bone and cartilage. In this work, a membrane-type micro-system was developed to provide cell culture environment and cell stretching stimulation during culture course. Circular and oval culture wells were designed to respectively generate uniform and non-uniform 2-axial tensile strain for stretching primary rabbit periosteal cells. Cell orientation and differentiation were studied after cycling stretching for 2 days. The cells aligned to the stretching axis with high tensile strain in the oval culture wells; while the cells expressed random orientation in the circular culture wells. Different responses were significantly shown when the cells were respectively stimulated by uniform and non-uniform 2-axial tensile strains. On the other hand, osteogenic differentiation was shown when the cells were under either uniform or non-uniform 2-axial tensile strain. However, only non-uniform 2-axial tensile strain could induce mature osteoblasts. In addition, the result revealed chondrocytes could be differentiated only under a large and nearly single dimensional tensile strain. In summary, differentiation of the periosteal cells is highly influenced by 2-dimensional distribution of the tensile strain. This work provides some in-sights of the control of axial tensile strain for periosteal cell differentiation.

        Serum Insulin-Like Growth Factor Binding Protein 7 as a Potential Biomarker in the Diagnosis and Prognosis of Esophagogastric Junction Adenocarcinoma

        Background/Aims: Esophagogastric junction adenocarcinoma (EJA) is a malignant tumor associated with high morbidity and has attracted increasing attention due to a rising incidence and low survival rate. Pathological biopsy is the gold standard for diagnosis, but noninvasive and effective tests are lacking, resulting in diagnoses at advanced stages. This study explored the diagnostic value of insulin-like growth factor binding protein 7 (IGFBP7) in EJA. Methods: A total of 120 EJA patients and 88 normal controls were recruited, and their serum levels of IGFBP7 were measured by enzymelinked immunosorbent assay. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to assess the diagnostic value, and Pearson chi-square analysis was used to evaluate the correlation between IGFBP7 and clinical parameters. Kaplan- Meier survival analysis was carried out to assess the effect of IGFBP7 on overall survival (OS). Results: The levels of IGFBP7 were higher in both early- and late-stage EJA patients than in normal controls (p<0.001). The area under the ROC curve for EJA patients was 0.794 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.733 to 0.854), with a cutoff value of 2.716 ng/mL, a sensitivity of 63.3% (95% CI, 54.0% to 71.8%) and a specificity of 90.9% (95% CI, 82.4% to 95.7%). For the diagnosis of early-stage EJA, the same cutoff value and specificity were obtained, but the sensitivity of IGFBP7 was 54.3% (95% CI, 36.9% to 70.8%). Patients with low IGFBP7 protein expression had lower OS than those with high expression (p=0.034). The multivariate analysis showed that IGFBP7 is an independent prognostic factor for EJA (p=0.011). Conclusions: Serum IGFBP7 acts as a potential diagnostic and prognostic marker for EJA.
