The Belousov-Zhabotinskii system measured by a Pt electrode is investigated under external electrode current constraint. A dynamical analysis of the electrode reaction phase has been made by means of a linearized stability criterion valid for three-variable system. It turns out that limit cycle oscillatory regime and dynamical behaviors of the electrode reaction phase have been degenerated under periodical electrode current.
The rheological behavior of collagen dispersion/poly(vinyl alcohol) blends

Blends of collagen dispersion (COL) with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) in different weight ratios were investigated by oscillatory rheometry, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. It was found that even with 80% of PVA, the COL/PVA blends behaved more like collagen dispersion than pure PVA solution in the dynamic thermal and frequency processing, for instance, a dominant elastic appearance (G'>G"), a similar shear thinning behavior and the thermal denaturation below 40C. However, influence on the blend behaviour by PVA was noticeable, for instance, an increase of dynamic denaturation temperature, the decreasing intensity of amide I, II and III bands as well as the diminishing irregular pores on the surface of blends. The interaction between collagen and PVA could be observed, especially at the regions with low content or high content of PVA.
Optical Properties of a Nanofiber with Metal Cladding

We present a detailed report on the linear and the nonlinear optical properties of a nanofiber with metal cladding fabricated by using a flame stretch method and a vacuum deposition method. We numerically simulated the field distribution in a tapered nanofiber with different thicknesses of silver cladding. The results show that, due to the high-index contrast between the silica core and the silver cladding, the silica waveguide allows strong optical confinement and large effective nonlinearity. The supercontinuum generation based on a nanofiber with metal cladding is investigated theoretically and experimentally.
Gender Comparision od Employment and Career Development in China

Leveraging data from Sina’s online survey of employment and career development carried in 2009, this article uses statistical description in case studies of the status quo of gender equality in employment and the diverse experiences and hopes of employees in China. This research shows some progress of gender equality in employment has been achieved, but there remain distinct differences between men and women in their professions, ranks, income levels, and promotions. Secondly, it shows that men and women have different experiences and hopes for the work environment due to their different ages, levels of education, and incomes. The marginalization of women in the workplace has a positive correlation with their hopes. The traditional stereotyped impressions still function as frames and templates in defining gender roles in the workplace. These factors have had an influence on gender equality in the workplace.
Microglia Activation Induces Parkinsonism : a New animal Model for Parkinson`s Disease

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by loss of dopamine-containing neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta(SNpc). Although the cause of neuronal death remains unclear, increasing evidence points to the role of inflammatory processes. In this study, we have injected lipopolysaccharide(LPS) into the SNpc to induce local inflammatory changes and have observed dopaminergic neuronal cell loss. Using immunocytochemistry, Western blot analysis, RNAse protection assay(RPA), electron microscopy, DNA fragmentation detection, and locomotor activity analysis we have found that intranigral, intrastriatal or intrapallidal injection of LPS produced a marked microglial activation and a dose-dependent, selective cell loss in the SNpc that is mediated by apoptosis. LPS also induced up-regulation of the mRNA of the cytokines IL-1α, IL-6, IL-10, and TNF-α, as well as activation of nuclear factor-κB(NFκB) detected by nuclear translocation, and increased expression of the apoptosis-related gene Bax in the SNpc. In addition, SNpc neurons were shown to be more susceptible to LPS toxicity than the cells in the adjacent ventral tegmental area(VTA). Moreover, infusion of IL-10 mitigated the LPS-induced loss of dopaminergic neurons in the SNpc. These results demonstrate that LPS-induced activation of microglia and the concomitant increase in pro-inflammatory cytokines may be responsible for the selective cell death observed in the SN and provide a new animal model for the study of Parkinson's disease.
Spatio-temporal Variation of Intertidal Microphytobenthos in the Nakdong Estuary

The species composition and the biomass of intertidal microphytobenthos (MPB) were investigated at four sites in the Nakdong Estuary from Feb. to Dec. 2006. The chlorophyll (chl) ${\alpha}$ concentration showed a positive correlation with MPB abundance, and depth profiles showed similar patterns: high at the surface, rapidly decreasing within 4 cm from the surface, and slowly decreasing thereafter. A MANOVA analysis revealed that the chl ${\alpha}$ concentration varied significantly not only with depth, month, and site, but also with combinations of these factors. Among the four investigated sites, site D (Baekhabdeung) showed a seasonal biomass variation trend distinct from those of the other sites: higher in summer, decreased in autumn and with sustained low values until winter. As indicated, the other sites contrastingly showed low biomasses in summer, after which the biomasses continuously increased, with some variation among the sites. A cluster analysis of species composition indicated that sites near to each other and with similar sediment structures had closer similarities in the same seasons. The species of genus Amphora and Navicula were dominant at the four sites throughout the study period.
