Coactosin-like protein 1 (Cotl1), a member of the actin-depolymerizing factor (ADF)/cofilin family, was first purified from a soluble fraction of Dictyostelium discoideum cells. Neuronal migration requires cytoskeletal remodeling and actin regulation. Although Cotl1 strongly binds to F-actin, the role of Cotl1 in neuronal migration remains undescribed. In this study, we revealed that Cotl1 overexpression impaired migration of both early- and late-born neurons during mouse corticogenesis. Moreover, Cotl1 overexpression delayed, rather than blocked, neuronal migration in late-born neurons. Cotl1 expression disturbed the morphology of migrating neurons, lengthening the leading processes. This study is the first to investigate the function of Cotl1, and the results indicate that Cotl1 is involved in the regulation of neuronal migration and morphogenesis.
Deep brain optical measurements of cell type–specific neural activity in behaving mice
Cui, Guohong,Jun, Sang Beom,Jin, Xin,Luo, Guoxiang,Pham, Michael D,Lovinger, David M,Vogel, Steven S,Costa, Rui M Nature Publishing Group 2014 NATURE PROTOCOLS -ELECTRONIC EDITION- Vol.9 No.6
Recent advances in genetically encoded fluorescent sensors enable the monitoring of cellular events from genetically defined groups of neurons in vivo. In this protocol, we describe how to use a time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC)–based fiber optics system to measure the intensity, emission spectra and lifetime of fluorescent biosensors expressed in deep brain structures in freely moving mice. When combined with Cre-dependent selective expression of genetically encoded Ca2+ indicators (GECIs), this system can be used to measure the average neural activity from a specific population of cells in mice performing complex behavioral tasks. As an example, we used viral expression of GCaMPs in striatal projection neurons (SPNs) and recorded the fluorescence changes associated with calcium spikes from mice performing a lever-pressing operant task. The whole procedure, consisting of virus injection, behavior training and optical recording, takes 3–4 weeks to complete. With minor adaptations, this protocol can also be applied to recording cellular events from other cell types in deep brain regions, such as dopaminergic neurons in the ventral tegmental area. The simultaneously recorded fluorescence signals and behavior events can be used to explore the relationship between the neural activity of specific brain circuits and behavior.

The structure of Cs3VO(O2)2CO3 is composed of distorted [VO(O2)2CO3]3– units and charge balancing Cs+ cations. The title compound exhibits the largest NLO intensity ever found in the current carbonate NLO materials, <I>i.</I>e., 23.0 times that of KH2PO4 (KDP). The remarkably strong second-harmonic generation (SHG) response originates from the synergistic effect of the exceedingly polarizable Cs+ cations, distortive polyhedra of the V5+ cation, delocalized π orbitals in CO3 groups, and distorted localized π orbitals in O2 groups. First-principles calculations indicated that introducing the polarizable cations into peroxovanadates not only induces the enhancement of the SHG response but also improves the thermal stability of the framework.</P></▼2>
RESEARCH OF AN ACTIVE FILTER BASED BALANCED POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM FOR RAIL WAY TRACTION
Zeng Guohong,Hao Rongtai 전력전자학회 1998 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.- No.-
This paper presents a balanced 3/1 supply scheme for electric railway By employing an active filter, the current of the three-phrase delivery system is balanced while the load is single phrase, which makes it possible for the traction system to behave like a pure-resistance load, with unity power factor and no harmonics. Simulation results are present to verify the scheme's topology and control strategies.<br/>
Whole-proteome phylogeny of large dsDNA virus families by an alignment-free method.
Wu, Guohong Albert,Jun, Se-Ran,Sims, Gregory E,Kim, Sung-Hou National Academy of Sciences 2009 PROCEEDINGS OF THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES OF Vol.106 No.31
<P>The vast sequence divergence among different virus groups has presented a great challenge to alignment-based sequence comparison among different virus families. Using an alignment-free comparison method, we construct the whole-proteome phylogeny for a population of viruses from 11 viral families comprising 142 large dsDNA eukaryote viruses. The method is based on the feature frequency profiles (FFP), where the length of the feature (l-mer) is selected to be optimal for phylogenomic inference. We observe that (i) the FFP phylogeny segregates the population into clades, the membership of each has remarkable agreement with current classification by the International Committee on the Taxonomy of Viruses, with one exception that the mimivirus joins the phycodnavirus family; (ii) the FFP tree detects potential evolutionary relationships among some viral families; (iii) the relative position of the 3 herpesvirus subfamilies in the FFP tree differs from gene alignment-based analysis; (iv) the FFP tree suggests the taxonomic positions of certain 'unclassified' viruses; and (v) the FFP method identifies candidates for horizontal gene transfer between virus families.</P>

The genetic structure and diversity of 15 Chinese indigenous chicken breeds was investigated using 29 microsatellite markers. The total number of birds examined was 542, on average 36 birds per breed. A total of 277 alleles (mean number 9.55 alleles per locus, ranging from 2 to 25) was observed. All populations showed high levels of heterozygosity with the lowest estimate of 0.440 for the Gushi chickens, and the highest one of 0.644 observed for Wannan Three-yellow chickens. The global heterozygote deficit across all populations (FIT) amounted to 0.180 (p<0.001). About 16% of the total genetic variability originated from differences between breeds, with all loci contributing significantly to this differentiation. An unrooted consensus tree was constructed using the Neighbour-Joining method and pair-wise distances based on marker estimated kinships. Two main groups were found. The heavy-body type populations grouped together in one cluster while the light-body type populations formed the second cluster. The STRUCTURE software was used to assess genetic clustering of these chicken breeds. Similar to the phylogenetic analysis, the heavy-body type and light-body type populations separated first. Clustering analysis provided an accurate representation of the current genetic relations among the breeds. Remarkably similar breed rankings were obtained with all methods.
EEE-GSM : End-to-End Encryption Scheme over GSM System
Mohammed Ramadan,Guohong Du,Fagen Li,Chun Xiang Xu 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Security and Its Applicat Vol.10 No.6
GSM system is widely used by hundreds of millions of people. In fact there is no encryption scheme provides the reasonable security level (user-to-user encryption), it’s just provide the Air-interface encryption i.e. between the mobile station and the base station. Furthermore, there are other wireless links are vulnerable to attacks. It is therefore of great importance to provide reasonable security techniques to ensure the privacy of the mobile users especially circuit switching-based services, as well as prevent unauthorized use of the service. In this paper, a new approach is proposed to provide end-to-end encryption for the GSM system (EEE-GSM). This is achieved by using CL-PKC with some modifications and follow some assumptions in GSM system architecture in order to make the scheme compliant to the GSM cellular system. However, the proposed scheme not only efficient due to end-to-end security, but can also provide a secure system against IMSI catcher, man-in-the-middle, and replay attacks.
