        Tooth Reattachment: Esthetics Preserved !!!

Rahul Grover,Ruchi Singla,Sonali Dhawan Grover 대한예방치과학회 2012 International Journal of Clinical Preventive Denti Vol.8 No.4

Coronal fractures of the anterior teeth are a common form of dental trauma that mainly affects children and adolescents. One of the options for managing coronal tooth fractures when the tooth fragment is available and there is no or minimal violation of the biological width is the reattachment of the dental fragment. Reattachment of fractured tooth fragments can provide good and long-lasting esthetics. It also restores function, provides a positive psychological response, and is a relatively simple procedure. This article reports a case in which tooth fragments were re-cemented after endodontic intervention.

Ceramic Inlay: Esthetic Replacement of Failed Amalgam Restoration

Rahul Grover,Ruchi Singla,Sonali Dhawan Grover 대한예방치과학회 2012 International Journal of Clinical Preventive Denti Vol.8 No.3

Advances in ceramics and adhesive technology have resulted in the development of a variety of tooth-colored indirect restorations. These offer an excellent alternative to direct composite restorations, especially for large restorations, and are more conservative than full-coverage restorations. However, because the clinical procedures are relatively technique sensitive, proper case selection, operator skill, and attention to detail are critical to success. This article reports a case in which failed amalgam restoration was replaced with ceramic inlay.

Management of Midroot Perforation Using Biodentine

Rahul Grover,Sonali Dhawan Grover,Ruchi Singla 대한예방치과학회 2013 International Journal of Clinical Preventive Denti Vol.9 No.2

Perforations are unwanted endodontic sequlae which if not managed properly can lead to grave consequences. The ultimate goal of managing perforations rests entirely on creation of a seal which prevents contamination of the surrounding periodontal attachment apparatus. Recently a new material Biodentine is introduced to manage root perforations. Biodentine is a special micronized concrete derived from the main component of Portland cement, tricalcium silicate. With physical properties far superior to those of MTA, especially in terms of setting time and compressive strength, it exhibits the same characteristics of biocompatibility and sealing ability, after setting in an alkaline pH, with controlled (size and spatial organization) formation of calcium salts. This case report describes the management of midroot perforation with Biodentine.

'Purani aur nai shaadi' : Separation, Divorce, and Remarriage in the Lives of the Urban Poor in New Delhi

        GROVER, Shalini 이화여자대학교 아시아여성학센터 2011 Asian Journal of Women's Studies(AJWS) Vol.17 No.1

Low-caste women and men in New Delhi frequently remarry in their lifetimes. While one of the major stories about social change in modern India is that divorce is growing by leaps and bounds, for the urban poor in large cities remarriage remains foremost a practical necessity. For the lowest castes in India, the virtual absence of high- caste chastity norms pertaining to their conjugal lives has hitherto been a putative route for explaining why certain social groups are in a position to form liaisons and remarry so easily. This article seeks to foreground gender, structural constraints, and everyday deprivation as factors in understanding why remarriage is a widespread practice amongst the low-caste poor in a metropolitan setting. The ethnographic focus is on poor women’s marital trajectories and on how they robustly negotiate divorce and remarriage with male partners, counsellors, the state, and NGOs in their quotidian lives.

EFFICIENT ESTIMATION OF POPULATION MEAN IN STRATIFIED SAMPLING USING REGRESSION TYPE ESTIMATOR

Grover Lovleen Kumar The Korean Statistical Society 2006 Journal of the Korean Statistical Society Vol.35 No.4

Here an efficient regression type estimator for a stratified population mean is proposed under the two-phase sampling scheme. While constructing the proposed estimator, it is assumed that the first auxiliary variable x is directly and highly correlated with the study variable y, and the second auxiliary variable z is directly and highly correlated with the first auxiliary variable x. However the variable z is not directly correlated with the variable y, but they are just correlated with each other only due to their direct and high correlation with the variable x. The proposed regression type estimator is found to be always more efficient than the existing estimators defined under the same situation.

The Impact of Perforator Number on Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator Flap Breast Reconstruction

Grover, Ritwik,Nelson, Jonas A.,Fischer, John P.,Kovach, Stephen J.,Serletti, Joseph M.,Wu, Liza C. Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surge 2014 Archives of Plastic Surgery Vol.41 No.1

Background Perforator flaps minimize abdominal site morbidity during autologous breast reconstruction. The purpose of this study was to assess whether the number of perforators harvested influences the overall deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap survival and flap-related complications. Methods A retrospective review was performed of all DIEP flaps performed at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania from 2006 to 2011. The outcomes assessed included flap loss and major complications. We compared flaps by the number of total perforators (1-4) and then carried out a subgroup analysis comparing flaps with one perforator to flaps with multiple perforators. Lastly, we conducted a post-hoc analysis based on body mass index (BMI) categorization. Results Three hundred thirty-three patients underwent 395 DIEP flaps. No significant differences were noted in the flap loss rate or the overall complications across perforator groups. However, the subgroup analysis revealed significantly higher rates of fat necrosis in the case of one-perforator flaps than in the case of multiple-perforator flaps (10.2% vs. 3.1%, P=0.009). The post-hoc analysis revealed a significant increase in the flap loss rate with increasing BMI (<30=2.0%, 30-34.9=3.1%, 35-39.9=3.1%, >40=42.9%, P<0.001) in the DIEP flaps, but no increase in fat necrosis. Conclusions This study demonstrates that the number of perforators does not impact the rate of flap survival. However, the rate of fat necrosis may be significantly higher in DIEP flaps based on a single perforator. Multiple perforators should be utilized if possible to decrease the risk of fat necrosis.

Revisiting the Devyani Khobragade controversy: The value of domestic labor in the global south

        Grover Shalini 이화여자대학교 아시아여성학센터 2017 Asian Journal of Women's Studies(AJWS) Vol.23 No.1

On December 13, 2013 the high-profile media coverage of Devyani Khobragade, the United States-based Indian diplomat, who was allegedly underpaying her maid, brought into sharp focus unequal employer-employee relations. This ‘Voices’ commentary directs us to the interstices of global inequalities, domestic labor, and care-giving between the genders. With the globalization of domestic labor, migrant care workers around the world face commonalities. However, in a time of global recession, privileged western expatriates relocating to destinations such as India, Singapore, China, and Dubai have access to cheap yet highly skilled domestic help. The latter phenomenon that has hitherto been under-contextualized raises contrastive differences in wage rates and the way domestic labor is ‘valued’ in the global North and South. Drawing upon anthropological fieldwork on the international expatriate community in India’s Capital city, race and class entitlements are accentuated in the context of global hierarchies.

      • GLOBAL LUXURY BRANDING & CONSUMER WELL-BEING: THE TWAIN (SHALL) MEET

        Aditi Grover,Mardie Miller,Kirsten Cowan 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2016 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2016 No.7

The paper proposes to develop a framework to help examine the factors and processes by which luxury advertising can impact consumer health across the globe. While luxury products such as Burberry and Gucci have been a source of much pride and might accentuate the need for conspicuous consumption (Veblen 1899) within a society, we seek to examine how luxury brands across categories can produce both favorable and unfavorable consequences on consumer health. The model would offer insights into essential factors and processes not only those who aspire such luxury brands, but also for those who have no such desire. With the theoretical underpinnings, the suggested model will draw its predictability powers across the fields of marketing (e.g., branding), psychology (i.e., cognitive dissonance theory, social perception theories) and network theories (social contagion theory). This suggested framework will focus on body image, specifically eating disorders (e.g., anorexia), and will exemplify how luxury brand communication can have quick detrimental effects on young adolescent females across the globe. At the same time, the model will also demonstrate how and what factors can lead the global community down a more healthy socially integrated pathway with luxury branding still being the driving force.
