        Assessment of neutron-induced activation of irradiated samples in a research reactor

        The combination of MCNP6 and the FISPACT codes was used to predict inventories of radioisotopes produced by neutron exposure of a sample in a research reactor. The detailed MCNP6 model of the Budapest Research Reactor and the specific irradiation geometry of the NAA channel was established, while realistic material cards were specified based on concentrations measured by PGAA and NAA, considering the precursor elements of all significant radioisotopes. The energy- and spatial distributions of the neutron field calculated by MCNP6 were transferred to FISPACT, and the resulting activities were validated against those measured using neutron-irradiated small and bulky targets. This approach is general enough to handle different target materials, shapes, and irradiation conditions. A general agreement within 10% has been achieved. Moreover, the method can also be made applicable to predict the activation properties of the near-vessel concrete of existing nuclear installations or assist in the optimal construction of new nuclear power plant units.

        Amidoxime modification of polyacrylonitrile/Pterocladia capillacea-derived activated carbon composite for adsorption of toxic chromium from aquatic environment

        By polymerizing acrylonitrile in the presence of ammonium persulfate as an initiator and Pterocladia capillacea-activated carbon (P-AC) as a filler, a composite material polyacrylonitrile/Pterocladia capillacea-activated carbon (PAN/P- AC) was developed. By reacting hydroxylamine with the composite's nitrile groups, the prepared composite was functionalized by amidoximation. FTIR spectrometry, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis were all applied to thoroughly characterize the fabricated adsorbent. For the treatment of Cr(VI) ions from synthetic solutions, the adsorption properties of amidoximated polyacrylonitrile/Pterocladia capillacea-activated carbon (PAO/P-AC) were investigated. The pH effect, uptake kinetics, adsorption isotherms, and thermodynamics studies were used to characterize adsorption properties. As a kinetic model analysis, the data confirmed that the pseudo-second-order rate equation matched well the adsorption process. With coefficients of determination (R2) of 0.9998, the Tempkin isotherm model had the lowest error, suggesting that it is the best fitted model to describe this adsorption mechanism. Thermodynamic parameters demonstrated that Cr(VI) adsorption was endothermic.

        미혼여성에서 GnRH Agonist 치료후 자궁근종절제술을 시행한 3 예

        본원에서 경험한 미혼여성에서 발생한 자궁근종을 GnRH agonist인 decapeptyl을 사용하여 전 처치한 후 자궁근종절제술을 시행한 3예를 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. Three unmarried young women with large uterine leiomyoma were treated with a long acting agonist of lutenizing hormone-releasing hormone (LH-RH), decapeptyl (D-trp6 -LHRH), 4gm administered intramuscularly every month. After reduction in uterine volume myomectomy was performed for the difinitive surgery. This experience is reported with brief reviews of the literature.

        복식 전자궁적출술에 관한 임상 통계학적 고찰

        1985년 1월부터 1989년 12월까지 5년간 일신기독병원 산부인과에서 시술한 전자궁적출술 378례를 대상으로 임상기록지를 통하여 관찰한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 연경분포는 40∼49세군이 202례(53.4%)로 가장 많았다. 2. 임신횟수는 4∼5회가 25.4%로 가장 많았고 분만횟수는 2회가 33.3%로 가장 많았다. 3. 가장 많은 주소는 하복통으로 117례(30.95%)였고 그 다음이 월경과다증이었다. 4. 수술 적응증으로는 자궁근종이 66.94%로 가장 많았으며 그 다음이 자궁경부 상피내종양 (11.37%)이었다. 5. 적출된 모든 조직의 주요 병리학적 소견은 자궁근종이 52.38%로 가장 많았으며 그 다음이 자궁선근종(32.8%), 자궁경부상피내종양(12.17%)이였다. 2가지이상의 주요병소를 가지고 있었던 경우가 30.16%였다. 6. 수술전 임상적 진단과 수술후 조직검사 결과로 확인된 수술전 진단율은 총 64.8%였으며 자궁선근종의 진단율이 9.7%로 가장 낮았다. 7. 수술전 혈액검사에서 혈색소치가 10.0gm/dl미만이 33%였고, 수술후 2pints이상의 수혈을 받았던 경우가 29.9%였다. 8. 수술전 진단적 소파수술을 시행했던 경우가 115례로 30.42%였으며, 자궁내막암이 진단되었던 경우가 2례있었다. 9. 수술전 정맥내 신우조영술을 344명(91%)에서 시행하였으며 비정상소견을 보였던 경우가 9%였고 이중 선천성뇨로제기형이 5례있었다. 10. 수술후 합병증은 21.2%였으며 그중 열성이환율이 17.25%로 가장 많았다. This study was attempted to analysis 378 women who undeerwent total abdominal hysterectomy at the department of Obstet & Gynecol, Ilsin Christian Hospital from Jan. 1985 to Dec. 1989. The results were summerized as follows; 1. The peak incidence of age distribution was in 40 to 49 years old age group and 53.4% of patients was belonged to that age range. 2. The most common gravity was gravida 4 to 5 group and the most common parity was para 2. 3. Lower abdominal pain was the most common symptom and followed by hypermenorrhea. 4. Uterine myoma was the most common indication of hysterectomy and followed by cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. 5. The most common postoperative pathologic finding was uterine myoma and followed by adenomyosis and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. 6. Overall 64.8% of the preoperative clinical diagnosis was confirmed by pathologic examination. But diagnostic accuracy rate of adenomyosis was only 9.5%. 7. 115 patients (30.42%) were performed prehysterectomy curettage and 2 cases of endometrial adenocarcinoma were diagnosed. 8. Intravenous pyelograms were performed on 344 patients (91%) and 5 patients had congenital urinary tract abnormalities.

        The objectives of this study were to ascertain ① the patients knowledge concerning their disease. ② compliance with medical regimen. ③ compliance with medical advice concerning prevention and dignosis. and to help succes of the control project of the tuberculosis. 234 patients, who visited to the public health center from August 12. to october 10, 1981, were participated in this study. The following results were obtained, ① Total participants were 166 male patients and 68 female patients. ② 65.8% of all respondents showed that they knew the fact that tuberculosis was one of the communicable disease. ③ 42.3% of all respondents said that preventive vaccination against tuberculosis was B.C.G. ④ Only 17.9% of all respondents knew the fact that the spread methods of the tuberc ulosis were droplet transmission and joint usages of the tablewares. ⑤ Even though 65% of all respondents knew the fact that waste paper and trash must to be burned but most of them didn't handle them orderly. ⑥ 82.1% of the respondents said that X-Ray photographings were needed to diognosis the disease and to check hte progress of the tuberculosis. ⑦ Only 7.7% of the respondents knew the exact dosage duration of the autituberculotic drug.

        Utilization of green alga Ulva lactuca for sustainable production of meso-micro porous nano activated carbon for adsorption of Direct Red 23 dye from aquatic environment

        The production of macroalgae-derived adsorbent is of great importance to realize the idea of treating pollutants with invaluable renewable materials. Herein, a novel meso-micro porous nano-activated carbon was prepared from green alga Ulava lactuca in a facile way via chemical activation with zinc chloride. The resultant activated carbon possesses a significant specific surface area 1486.3 m2/g. The resulting activated carbon was characterized and investigated for the adsorption of Direct Red 23 (DR23) dye from an aqueous environment. Batch method was conducted to study the effects of different adsorption processes on the DR23 dye adsorption from water. Isotherms and kinetics models were investigated for the adsorption process of DR23 dye. It was found that the adsorption data were well fitted by Langmuir model showing a monolayer adsorption capacity 149.26 mg/g. Kinetic experiments revealed that the adsorptions of DR23 dye can be described with pseudo-second-order model showing a good correlation (R2 > 0.997). The prepared activated carbon from Ulava lactuca was exposed to a total of six regeneration experiments. The regeneration result proved that the fabricated activated carbon only loses 19% of its adsorption capacity after six cycles. These results clearly demonstrated the high ability of the obtained active carbon to absorb anionic dyes from the aqueous environment.
