Development of a new correlation for pre-dry out evaporative heat transfer coefficient of R290 in a microchannel

        Ghazali Muhammad Aliff Haikal,Mohd-Yunos Yushazaziah,Pamitran Agus Sunjarianto,Jong-Taek Oh,Mohd-Ghazali Normah 대한설비공학회 2022 International Journal of Air-Conditioning and Refr Vol.30 No.1

Although many correlations have and are being developed for two-phase heat transfer coefficient correlation in microchannels, none has the desired accuracy yet. This paper presents prospective improvements in the convective heat transfer coefficient correlation accuracy for the dry-out conditions; when the heat transfer coefficient drops at a certain vapor quality. An accurate heat transfer coefficient forecast is needed to minimize over or under design, conserve energy and material, and maximize the performance. R290 has been reported to be more energy efficient than R22. A new correlation relevant for R290 across 831 sets of experimental data points in a microchannel was generated by optimizing six variables in the nucleate boiling suppression factor, S, and force convective factor, F, of a selected superposition type correlation. The new correlation was optimized for saturation temperature ranging between 5 and 25 °C, diameter ranging between 1.0 and 6.0 mm, heat flux ranging between 2.5 and 60 kW/m 2 , and mass flux ranging between 50 and 500 kg/m 2 s. The MAE was reduced from 21.84 to 17.02% for pre-dry out data. The new correlation may be utilized to estimate the heat transfer coefficient of R290 in heat transfer analysis in a microchannel under the investigated operating conditions. The optimization approach utilized here has the potential of continuously improving the MAE of any heat transfer correlation for any refrigerants considered.

      • Non-Practice of Breast Self Examination and Marital Status are Associated with Delayed Presentation with Breast Cancer

Ghazali, Sumarni Mohd,Othman, Zabedah,Cheong, Kee Chee,Lim, Kuang Hock,Wan Mahiyuddin, Wan Rozita,Kamaluddin, Muhammad Amir,Yusoff, Ahmad Faudzi,Mustafa, Amal Nasir Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.2

Delay in seeking treatment for breast cancer is a barrier to the early diagnosis and management of the disease, resulting in a poorer prognosis. We here estimated the prevalence of delayed presentation for breast cancer and identified possible influential sociodemographic factors in a cross-sectional study of 250 patients diagnosed with primary breast cancer at the Radiotherapy and Oncology Clinic in Kuala Lumpur Hospital. Data were collected by face-to-face interview using a structured questionnaire and from medical records. We examined associations between delayed presentation (presenting to a physician more than 3 months after self-discovery of a symptom) and sociodemographic characteristics, practice of breast self examination (BSE), history of benign breast disease, family history of breast cancer and type of symptom, symptom disclosure and advice from others to seek treatment using multiple logistic regression. Time from self-discovery of symptom to presentation ranged from tghe same day to 5 years. Prevalence of delayed presentation was 33.1% (95%CI: 27.4, 39.3). A significantly higher proportion of delayers presented with late stages (stage III/IV) (58.3% vs. 26.9%, p<0.001). Divorced or widowed women (OR: 2.23, 95% CI: 1.11, 4.47) had a higher risk of delayed presentation than married women and women who never performed breast self examination were more likely to delay presentation compared to those who regularly performed BSE (OR: 2.74, 95% CI: 1.33, 5.64). Our findings indicate that delayed presentation for breast cancer symptoms among Malaysian women is high and that marital status and breast self examination play major roles in treatment-seeking for breast cancer symptoms.

        Ghazali Musa,Kalsom Kayat,Thinaranjeney Thirumoorthi 세계문화관광학회 2008 Conference Proceedings Vol.9 No.0

Home-stay is one of the Malaysian government efforts to diversify its cultural tourism product. Tourists are adopted by their foster families and experience the traditional life in Malay villages. This study explores the experiential aspects of home-stay holidays in Kampung Lonek using diary method. Nineteen diaries were returned and analyzed using NVIVO. The paper proposes a home-stay experiential model which explains the phases of travel experience including the on-site experience. Among the on-site experience dimensions are 'Environmental Experience', 'Activity, Culture and Knowledge Experience' and 'Human Interaction Experience'. The uniqueness of home-stay experience is discussed along with some management implications.

      • Risk Ranking for Tunnelling Construction Projects in Malaysia

Ghazali, F.E. Mohamed,Wong, H.C. Korea Institute of Construction Engineering and Ma 2014 Journal of construction engineering and project ma Vol.4 No.1

Tunnelling has become a preferred method of construction for road and highway projects in countries with a lot of hilly slope geological conditions such as found in Malaysia. However the construction works of a tunnelling project are usually complicated and costly, which consequently impose great risks to the parties involved. This paper identifies the key significant risks and sub-risks for tunnelling construction projects in Malaysia through a case study. Interview has been used as the solitary means to determine the significant risks from contractor's eleven key project personnel who were directly involved in the tunnelling construction such as consultant, construction manager and tunnel engineers. The importance of the risks identified is then prioritised and ranked via the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP)'s pairwise comparison approach to determine their criticality towards a successful delivery of project. As a result, three key risks have been identified as significant for the tunnelling case study project, namely health and safety, cost overrun in construction and time overrun in construction. Two sub-risks each of the latter categories, which are cost underestimation and unforeseen events (cost overrun in construction) as well as plant and machinery failure and delay in material delivery (time overrun in construction), have occupied the top five overall risk ranking.

Effects of monoculture and polyculture farming in oil palmsmallholdings on terrestrial arthropod diversity

        Amal Ghazali,Siti Asmah,Muhammad Syafiq,Muhammad S. Yahya,Najjib Aziz,TanLi Peng,Ahmad R. Norhisham,Chong Leong Puan,Edgar C. Turner,Badrul Azhar 한국응용곤충학회 2016 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.19 No.2

Oil palmagriculture has become one of the economic mainstays for biodiversity-rich countries in the tropics. The conversion of native forests to oil palm monoculture plantation has caused unprecedented biodiversity loss in Southeast Asia. Little is known about the effects of oil palm polyculture farming on arthropod diversity. In this study, arthropodswere sampled using pitfall traps at 120 sites in Peninsular Malaysia. We examined howarthropod biodiversity responded to different oil palmfarming practices and local-scale vegetation structure characteristics. We found that the number of arthropod orders was significantly greater in polyculture than monoculture smallholdings. However, we did not detect a significant difference in arthropod order composition nor abundance between monoculture and polyculture practices. In situ habitat characteristics explained 16% of the variation in arthropod order richness, with key predictor variables including farming practice, height of oil palm stands, and number of immature palm. The findings of this study suggest that polyculture farming together with management for in situ habitat complexity may be a useful strategy in supporting biodiversity within in oil palm plantations.

The Momentum Strategy of Small Foreign Investors in the Indonesia Stock Exchange

SYAMNI, Ghazali,AZIS, Nasir,MUSNADI, Said,FAISAL, Faisal Korea Distribution Science Association 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.3

This research aimed to analyze the momentum strategy of foreign investors with the smallest trading transactions in the Indonesian stock market. This study applied a quantitative method approach using intraday transaction data of companies listed on the LQ-45 Index for March, April, and May 2017, obtained from the Indonesia Capital Market Institute (TICMI) which is a subsidiary of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). The number of companies with available data is 35 companies, consisting of 23 non-government stocks and 12 government stocks. The number of observations from the 35 companies was 8,686,030 observations where the government companies recorded 2,751, 545 and the non-government companies 1,387,016 observations. All data was then squeezed and grouped into small, medium, and large trade transaction orders. The data analysis method used was paired t-test with SPSS to analyze cumulative abnormal returns in the formulation and test periods. This study found that small foreign investors carried out momentum strategies on stocks listed on the LQ-45 Index. However, re-testing was done by separating government and non-government shares. It turned out that small foreign investors performed a momentum strategy on non-government and a contrarian strategy on government.

      • Effects of Two-Phase Flow Friction Factor Correlations on the Optimal Pressure Drop-Martinelli Parameter Pair in a Mini-Channel

Mohd Ghazali, Normah,Pamitran, Agus Sunjarianto,Jong-Taek, Oh,Ahmad, Robiah,Rabin, Muhammad Khairul Fitkry Trans Tech Publications, Ltd. 2016 Applied Mechanics and Materials Vol.819 No.-

Substantial research has been completed with more on-going on the flow pattern and heat transfer associated with two-phase flows. Discrepancies reported may have been as much as agreements, due to the different models, approaches, flow regimes, correlations, and new working fluids being utilized. This paper reports the outcome of a study to look at the effects of applying two different friction factor correlations on the simultaneous minimization of the pressure drop and Martinelli parameter under optimized flow rate and vapor quality, using genetic algorithm. The homogeneous model is assumed with ammonia as the working fluid, the coolant being environmentally friendly and having recently discovered as a potential replacement for the current refrigerants in micro and mini-channels. Results show that significant differences in the frictional pressure drop and Martinelli parameter arise due to the different correlations used, and this is only the outcome from two different correlations currently being considered by researchers in pressure drop analysis for two-phase flows in mini-channels. Thus, absolute agreement is indeed not possible between theoretical, experimental, and numerical work in view of the many different available correlations being utilized today with differences between 10 to 100 percent that has already been established.

THE EMPLOYMENT INTENSITY OF GROWTH: EVIDENCE FROM TUNISIA

MONIA GHAZALI,RIM MOUELHI 중앙대학교 경제연구소 2018 Journal of Economic Development Vol.43 No.3

The employment intensity of output growth or elasticity of employment with respect to output plays an important role in assessing the job creation ability of economic sectors. This research aims to focus on the Tunisian case in order to estimate the employment intensity of growth among Tunisian productive sectors and identify key sectors that are employment intensive. The data cover the period 1980-2012. Results suggest a significant decrease in aggregate employment elasticity over the period of study. At the sector level, we identify two categories of sectors. The first category involves low-productive sectors with high and increasing employment-output elasticities. The second category includes high-productive sectors with low and decreasing employment-output elasticities. The second stage of the analysis identifies the major determinants influencing total employment elasticity. The trade openness as well as selected macroeconomic policy variables contribute significantly to explain the elasticity evolution.

VEHICLE TRAJECTORY CHALLENGE IN PREDICTIVE ACTIVE STEERING ROLLOVER PREVENTION

Mohammad Ghazali,Mohammad Durali,Hassan Salarieh 한국자동차공학회 2017 International journal of automotive technology Vol.18 No.3

High center of mass vehicles are likely to rollover in extreme maneuvers. Available works present control strategies to prevent rollover. In these works, however, other important parameters such as path trajectory tracking are not a main concern. In this paper conflicts between rollover prevention and trajectory tracking is investigated. Model predictive control (MPC) is adopted to predict and avoid rollover while tracking desired trajectory. For this regard a model based future error estimation is introduced. The control framework predicts both rollover and trajectory error simultaneously. It avoids rollover while tries to track the trajectory. Simulation results for two controllers with and without trajectory tracking are presented. The results indicate that the controllers effectively limit rollover as a hard constraint while the trajectory tracking controller also minimizes and recovers the path error.
