PURPOSE. A survey was conducted to assess the impact of a TED-like educational session on participants' willingness to accept dental implant therapy. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Volunteers interested in having information about dental implant therapies were recruited and asked to complete a two-part survey before and after an educational session. The initial survey elicited demographic information, self-perceived knowledge on dental implants and willingness to this kind of treatment. A "TED-style" presentation that provided information about dental implant treatments was conducted before asking the participants to complete a second set of questions assessing the impact of the session. RESULTS. The survey was completed by 104 individuals, 78.8% were women and the mean age was $66.5{\pm}10.8$. Before the educational session, 76.0% of the participants refused dental implants mainly due to lack of knowledge. After the educational session, the rejection of dental implants decreased by almost four folds to 20.2%. CONCLUSION. This study proved that an educational intervention can significantly increase willingness to accept treatment with dental implants in a segment of the population who is interested in having information about dental implant therapy. Furthermore, educational interventions, such as TED-like talks, might be useful to increase popular awareness on dental implant therapy.
A Systematic Review of Evidence for Education and Training Interventions in Microsurgery

Over the past decade, driven by advances in educational theory and pressures for efficiency in the clinical environment, there has been a shift in surgical education and training towards enhanced simulation training. Microsurgery is a technical skill with a steep competency learning curve on which the clinical outcome greatly depends. This paper investigates the evidence for educational and training interventions of traditional microsurgical skills courses in order to establish the best evidence practice in education and training and curriculum design. A systematic review of MEDLINE, EMBASE, and PubMed databases was performed to identify randomized control trials looking at educational and training interventions that objectively improved microsurgical skill acquisition, and these were critically appraised using the BestBETs group methodology. The databases search yielded 1,148, 1,460, and 2,277 citations respectively. These were then further limited to randomized controlled trials from which abstract reviews reduced the number to 5 relevant randomised controlled clinical trials. The best evidence supported a laboratory based low fidelity model microsurgical skills curriculum. There was strong evidence that technical skills acquired on low fidelity models transfers to improved performance on higher fidelity human cadaver models and that self directed practice leads to improved technical performance. Although there is significant paucity in the literature to support current microsurgical education and training practices, simulated training on low fidelity models in microsurgery is an effective intervention that leads to acquisition of transferable skills and improved technical performance. Further research to identify educational interventions associated with accelerated skill acquisition is required.

Financial Development Impact on Firm Dynamic Creation: Panel Data Evidence on MENA Countries

Using a panel of 14 MENA countries, this paper investigates and examines whether financial development trains a substantial effect on entrepreneurship development by facilitating the rise of new firms. Generalized Two-Stage Least Squares estimate results with instrumental variables highlight the relevance of developed financial systems for the creation of new firms. In overall, financial development and its component explained by the institutional quality exert a positive and significant effect on new entry density in oil MENA countries compared to non-oil ones.

Concentrically Loaded Circular RC Columns Partially Confined with FRP

Wrapping reinforced concrete (RC) columns with fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composites is effective in increasing their capacity. The current state of the art concentrates primarily on fully wrapped columns and few studies dealt with partially wrapped ones. The objective herein is to evaluate the effectiveness of partial wraps (or strips) and to develop a confined concrete compressive stress.strain (fc - εc) model that accounts for partial wrapping. Three-dimensional finite element (FE) models are generated to evaluate the influence of different parameters on the behavior of concentrically loaded RC circular columns that are partially and fully wrapped with FRP. The results indicated an increase in ductility as the number of FRP strips is increased, and revealed that longitudinal steel had little influence on the confined fc . εc relationship. The proposed fc . εc model, derived from the parametric study, accounts for the effect of partial and full confinement, the unconfined concrete strength f ′c , and yielding of transverse steel. Comparison of the results generated using the proposed model with FE and experimental results are in good agreement.
Penile Low-Intensity Shock Wave Therapy: A Promising Novel Modality for Erectile Dysfunction

Penile extracorporeal low-intensity shock wave therapy (LIST) to the penis has recently emerged as a novel and promising modality in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). LIST has angiogenic properties and stimulates neovascularization. If applied to the corpora cavernosa, LIST can improve penile blood flow and endothelial function. In a series of clinical trials, including randomized double-blind sham-controlled studies, LIST has been shown to have a substantial effect on penile hemodynamics and erectile function in patients with vasculogenic ED. LIST is effective in patients who are responsive to phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitors (PDE5i) and can also convert PDE5i nonresponders to responders. The response to LIST wanes gradually over time, and after 2 years, about half of the patients maintain their function. Extensive research is needed to understand the effect of LIST on erectile tissue, to modify the treatment protocol to maximize its outcomes, and to identify the patients who will benefit the most from this treatment.

Popliteal vein aneurysms (PVAs) represent a rare form of venous aneurysms and necessitate prompt management because of their well-established risk of pulmo-nary embolism (PE). Herein, we report a rare case of PVA without PE, successfully treated with open surgical repair. A 27-year-old man presented to our vascular clinic with chronic pain and swelling in his left lower limb. He had a long history of facial surgeries for the removal of congenital multiple osteomas. Physical examina-tion revealed varicosities with an abnormal distribution. Duplex ultrasound showed a left PVA measuring 2.3 cm in diameter and 4 cm in length. Open surgical exci-sion of the PVA with lateral venorrhaphy was performed through a medial ap-proach. Prophylactic anticoagulation was performed postoperatively. In this case, the PVA was detected, with a high degree of suspicion by the clinician, before it caused fatal PE. The patient was successfully treated with aneurysm excision and lateral venorrhaphy.
