This study was undertaken to develop an instrument to be used for measuring the concept of duality of life of Korean patients with cancer multidimensionary and correctly. It can contribute in holistic nursing care for Korean cancer patients and also provide and validate basic data to help oncology nurses measure the outcome of nursing intervention correctly. To develop this instrument, the researchers first estabilished a conceptual framework based on the results of qualitative data analysis and indepth interview method Development of the scale was conducted using a method in which 31 items were assessed by subjects' self report using linear analogue scales. The subjects were 79 D.M. Patients. 103 patients with acute illness, and 91 cancer Patients residing in Busan, Korea. Data were collected during the period from July, 24 to August 14. 2000. This instrument consisted of 31 items with a self report stale. This instrument covered 4 dimensions of cancer patients : 1) Physical wellbeing 2) psychological wellbeing 3) social wellbeing and 4)spiritual wellbeing. Each item had a possible score of 10. The reliability of the scale was tested with Cronbach's alpha. Validity was evaluated by examining the relationships of this scale. Youn's Quality of Life Questionnare scores and the Simple Quality of Life scale. Two separate runs of multiple regression were used to predict scores on the Simple Quality of Life measuremend. Further validation was obtained by examining the correlation between the instrument subscores and Youn's Quality of Life measurement subscore for convergence of this scale. Examination of the discriminant. power of the instrument was done using ANOVA test. The results are summarized as follows : 1.The reliability of the instrument for the quality of life was 0.8321 (Cronbach's alpha.), physical wellbeing dimension 0.6343. Psychological wellbeing dimension 0.6501, spiritual wellbeing dimension 0.5883. 2.This instrument had a high correlation with Youn's Quality of Life measurement(r= 0.636) in cancer Patients, whereas it had a low correlation with Simple Quality of Life measurement(r= 0.455) in cancel patients. In the D.M. patients, the instrument correlated with both the Youn's Quality of Llfe measurement and Simple Quality of life measurement(r=0.313. r= 0.407) and in the acute stage patients. the instrument had no correlation. 3.Multiple regression of individual Items on the Simple Quality of Life scores accounted for 56.8% of the variance in the Simple Quality of Life measurement, whereas, Youn's Quality of Life measurement scores accounts for 31.7%. The correlations collected from the three group had the same patterns of variations but especially the instrument developed in this study had higher disciminant power than that of Youn's Quality of Life Measurement.

      • 한국인의 일상 식이 및 식품 중의 리보플라빈 함량

        황금희,임현숙 全南大學校家政科學硏究所 1992 生活科學硏究 Vol.2 No.-

This study was conducted to analyze the riboflavin content of major foods which suppling riboflavin to Korean diet. It has been pointed out that the values of riboflavin content in the Food Composition Tables are different from the real contents. Riboflavin is destructed easily by exposure to oxygen or light. Therefore the ribofavin content of foods might be decreased during cooking. So the riboflavin content of the experimental diets consumed by 8 subjects, adult Korean women, during 1 week was analyzed by AOAC method and compared to the values of 2 Food Composition Tables published by Korean Population Institute and by Rural Nutrition Institute respectively. And also, the riboflavin content of 22 major foods was analyzed by the above method and compared to the values of the above Food Com-position Tables. The mean analyzed value of riboflavin of the experimental diets was 0.74 mg, and calculated values according to the above Food Composition Tables were 1.30 mg and 1.34 mg, respectively. The analyzed values were 56.6% and 55.2%, respectively, of the above 2 calculated values according to 2 Food Composition Tables. The major sources of riboflavin were milk, egg, Korean cabbage, rice, beef and so on. Among the foods of riboflavin sources, the values of 9 foods such as pork, hair-tail(fresh), cucumber, lettuce, leek, stem of sweetpotato, red-pepper(dried), tangle(fresh), apple(Fuji) were consistent well with the values of Food Composition Table. But the values of 13 foods such as milk, egg, Korean cabbage, rice, beef, laver, onion, large green onion, Korean radish, galric, green-pepper, carrot, shrimps(soued) were considerably different from the values of Food Composition Tables.

Vol.13 No.4

"Journal of Korean Academy of Adult Nursing" has been published since 1989 and more than 330 articles have been published up 2000. We reviewed all the articles published in this journal to analyze the contents and trend of published articles and to find out the way of improvement both in quantity and quality of studies in this area. The results are as follows : 1) Ninety percent of articles were quantitative studies. Experimental design was used in 16.1% and quasi-experimental design was adapted in 73.6% of articles. Qualitative research were 10.3% of total articles reviewed. 2) Only 5.1% of articles described theoretical framework and 73.6% of experimentally designed articles included research hypotheses. 3) Among experimental studies, only one was true experimental studie design. Eighty nine point three persent had descriptive survey method among non-experimental studies. Amog the thirty four qualitative studies, phenomenologic(73.5%), grounded theory(14.7%), and ethnographic (11.8%) design were used. 4) Most of research subject were patients and few healthy people, healthcare worker, and patient family. 5) Psychosocial data collection method which used questionnaire were 53.7% and interview. physical measurement, observation were used in 22.8%. 8.2% 5.4% of articles respectively. 6) Total number of keywords were 692, and average number of key words per article was 2.2. Health-related keyword was the most frequently used according to four metaparadigm of nursing (human, health, nursing, and environment). Environment related keyword was rarely appeared. The number and quality of nursing research in "Journal of Korean Academy of Adult Nursing" have been improved continuously. It is difficult to find out special trend or characteristics which is unique in this journal because of relatively short history of adult nursing studies. This review study was performed to analyze adult nursing studies only in the view of quantitative aspect, but it is needed to analyse qualitatively to find philosophical or theoretical trend in nursing.

Short Communication : Human Acyl-CoA:Cholesterol Acyltransferase (hACAT)-inhibiting Triterpenes from Lythrum salicaria L.

( Geum Soog Kim ),( Seung Eun Lee ),( Tae Sook Jeong ),( Chun Geun Park ),( Jung Sook Sung ),( Jung Bong Kim ),( Yoon Pyo Hong ),( Young Chul Kim ),( Kyung Sik Song ) 한국응용생명화학회(구 한국농화학회) 2011 Applied Biological Chemistry (Appl Biol Chem) Vol.54 No.4

β-Sitosterol (1), betulinic acid (2), and 3β-hydroxy-20(29)-lupen-28-oic acid methyl ester (3) were isolated from the herbal parts of Lythrum salicaria. Compounds 2 and 3 were isolated for the first time from L. salicaria and they showed inhibitory activities on both hACAT1 and hACAT2. These results suggested that L. salicaria, which contains triterpenes 2 and 3, might be effective in the prevention and treatment of hypercholesterolemia or atherosclerosis due to its inhibitory effect on hACAT.

      • Metabolomic profiling analysis for biomarker discovery in human disease

        Geum-Sook Hwang(황금숙) 한국분석과학회 2021 학술대회논문집 Vol.2021 No.11

Metabolomics is the technology of studying, profiling, and fingerprinting metabolites in various physiologic states. This approach has recently demonstrated enormous potentials in many fields such as genotype discrimination, toxicological mechanism, disease processes, and drug discovery. Metabonomic approaches have been used to generate comprehensive biochemical profiles of low molecular weight endogenous metabolites for biofluides and tissue. This metabolic profile is perturbed in a characteristic fashion in disease, toxic process and drug efficacy, and this shift in position can be readily visualized and modeled using chemometric techniques. The metabolic profile of biofluids shows changes of their composition in response to toxic or disease-induced stress due to the system"s attempt to maintain homeostasis. These methods constitute a metabolomic approach to study the quantitative metabolic consequences of patho-physiological insult. Understanding the biochemical reason for such a shift in metabolic space leads to the identification of biomarkers of disease or drug efficacy. ¹H NMR and Mass spectrometry (MS) were used to generate a molecular fingerprint of biofluid or tissue samples, and then pattern recognition technique was applied to identity molecular signatures associated with the specific diseases or drug efficiency. Several metabolites that differentiate disease samples from the control were thoroughly characterized and the metabolic changes in human and animal model were investigated using ¹HNMR and MS. Spectral data were applied to targeted profiling and spectral binning method, and then multivariate statistical data analysis (MVDA) was used to examine in detail the modulation of small molecule candidate biomarkers. The metabolic profiling produces robust models, generates accurate metabolite concentration data, and provides data that can be used to help understand metabolic differences between healthy and disease or drug treated models. Such metabolic signatures could provide diagnostic markers for a disease state or biomarkers for drug response phenotypes, and mechanistic information on cellular perturbations and pathways.

Predicting Suicidal Ideation in College Students with Mental Health Screening Questionnaires

        Geum-sook Shim,Bum-seok Jeong 대한신경정신의학회 2018 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.15 No.11

Objective The present study aimed to identify risk factors for future SI and to predict individual-level risk for future or persistent SI among college students. Methods Mental health check-up data collected over 3 years were retrospectively analyzed. Students were categorized as suicidal ideators and non-ideators at baseline. Logistic regression analyses were performed separately for each group, and the predicted probability for each student was calculated. Results Students likely to exhibit future SI had higher levels of mental health problems, including depression and anxiety, and significant risk factors for future SI included depression, current SI, social phobia, alcohol problems, being female, low self-esteem, and number of close relationships and concerns. Logistic regression models that included current suicide ideators revealed acceptable area under the curve (AUC) values (0.7–0.8) in both the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) and precision recall (PR) curves for predicting future SI. Predictive models with current suicide non-ideators revealed an acceptable level of AUCs only for ROC curves. Conclusion Several factors such as low self-esteem and a focus on short-term rather than long-term outcomes may enhance the prediction of future SI. Because a certain range of SI clearly necessitates clinical attention, further studies differentiating significant from other types of SI are necessary.
