Shear bond strength of luting cements to fixed superstructure metal surfaces under various seating forces

        Fusun Ozer,Elif Pak-Tunc,Nesrin Esen Dagli,Deepika Ramachandran,Deniz Sen,Markus Bernhard Blatz 대한치과보철학회 2018 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.10 No.5

PURPOSE. In this study, the shear bond strengths (SBS) of luting cements to fixed superstructure metal surfaces under various seating forces were investigated. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Seven different cements [Polycarboxylate (PCC), Glass-Ionomer (GIC), Zinc phospahate (ZPC), Self-adhesive resin (RXU), Resin (C&B), and Temporary cements ((RXT) and (TCS))] were bonded to a total number of 224 square blocks (5×5×3 mm) made of one pure metal [Titanium (CP Ti) and two metal alloys [Gold-Platinum (Au-Pt) and Cobalt-Chrome (Co-Cr)] under 10 N and 50 N seating forces. SBS values were determined and data were analyzed with 3-way ANOVA. Pairwise comparisons and interactions among groups were analyzed with Tukey’s simultaneous confidence intervals. RESULTS. Overall mean scores indicated that Co-Cr showed the highest SBS values (1.96±0.4) (P<.00), while Au-Pt showed the lowest among all metals tested (1.57±0.4) (P<.00). Except for PCC/CP Ti, RXU/CP Ti, and GIC/Au-Pt factor level combinations (P<.00), the cements tested under 10 N seating force showed no significantly higher SBS values when compared to the values of those tested under 50 N seating force (P>.05). The PCC cement showed the highest mean SBS score (3.59±0.07) among all cements tested (P<.00), while the resin-based temporary luting cement RXT showed the lowest (0.39±0.07) (P<.00). CONCLUSION. Polycarboxylate cement provides reliable bonding performance to metal surfaces. Resin-based temporary luting cements can be used when retrievability is needed. GIC is not suitable for permanent cementation of fixed dental prostheses consisting of CP Ti or Au-Pt substructures.

The Efficacy of Physical Therapy and Physical Therapy Plus Calcitonin in the Treatment of Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

        Fusun Sahin,Figen Yilmaz,Nurdan Kotevoglu,Banu Kuran 연세대학교의과대학 2009 Yonsei medical journal Vol.50 No.5

Purpose: The aim of our study was to compare the efficacy of physical therapy alone and in combination with calcitonin in patients with neurogenic claudication (NC). Materials and Methods: In this single blind, and randomized study, patients with lumbar spinal canal stenosis who were diagnosed by clinical findings and MRI and having NC were included. Patients were observed for 8 weeks and evaluated before and after treatment. Patients were randomized between the salmon calcitonin 200 U/day + physical therapy (n = 23) (Group 1) and paracetamol 1,500 mg/day + physical therapy (n = 22) (Group 2) treatment groups. Both groups received the same physical therapy (interferential current + hot pack + short wave diathermy) and exercise protocol. The association of various clinical and functional parameters was assessed statistically by using paired and unpaired t test, chi square test and McNemar’s test. p < 0.05 indicated statistical significant. Results: Mean age of the patients in Group 1 was 57.6 ± 11.2 and in Group 2 54.5 ± 10.6 years. Before treatment, there were no significant differences between groups with respect to age, body mass index, spinal axial diameter, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), spinal mobility, functional status and walking distance (p > 0.05). After 8 weeks of treatment, both groups benefited significantly with respect to VAS, functional status and walking distance (p < 0.001). There was no statistically significant difference between groups (p > 0.05). Conclusion: In 45 patients with lumbar spinal stenosis who received 8 weeks of treatment, concomitant use of calcitonin with physical therapy and exercise did not have any benefical effect on the patient’s pain, functional status, lumbar mobility and walking distance. • Cultural Aspect of Conflict Behaviour in Construction -A Case Study from Turkey

Babaoglu, F.Fusun Ertan,Giritli, Heyecan Korea Institute of Construction Engineering and Ma 2017 Journal of construction engineering and project ma Vol.7 No.2

Although much research has been conducted to identify the influence of culture on conflict management and resolution behaviours in organizational settings, no study has been done yet in the construction industry particularly in considering the influence of individual level individualistic and collectivistic values. Despite the key role of self-construal in explaining or predicting behaviour in interpersonal conflict, it has not received enough attention in construction management. Reflecting this necessity, the objective of this exploratory study was to establish, through the application of the Rahim Organizational Inventory (ROC II) instrument, how the cultural values of professionals of construction businesses relate to the application of different conflict-handling styles through self-construal. Data were collected using questionnaire surveys from construction professionals working in contracting firms. The findings illustrate the importance of self-construal type as an individual-level cultural variable in explaining the differences in the style of handling interpersonal conflict in the context of the construction industry.

      • Women's Perceptions and Attitudes about Cervical Cancer in Turkey: Kato's Device as an Alternative to the Pap Smear

Sahin, Mustafa Kursat,Sahin, Gulay,Dikici, Mustafa Fevzi,Igde, Fusun Artiran,Yaris, Fusun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.2

Aims: To determine the status of women's perception and attitudes about cervical cancer and their thoughts on Kato's self-sampling device. Materials and Methods: This descriptive research was conducted between July-December 2012 with a study populationof married women older than 18 years. Results: A total of 246 women volunteered, with a mean age of $34.9{\pm}9.22$ (19-52). In the last year, 52.0% had been examined by a gynecologist to address a complaint or for a periodic health check. Of the 118 who had not had a gynecological examination, 42.4% indicated negligence, 26.3% stated the reason was no complaint, 14.4% feared they might receive bad results from the examination, and 8.5% stated that were shy or embarrassed. Of all of the women, 35.0% answered that they had information about cervical cancer, and 0.7% had heard about the HPV vaccine. No one in their families had received the vaccine. Of the women, 28.5% had had a Pap smear, and 71.4% of those had normal results. Of those who had never had a Pap smear, 47.2% had never heard about the test; 18.8% explained the reason for not having a test as shyness or embarrassment with a male doctor. None of the women had heard about Kato's device. Once the women were informed, 73.6% expresseed interest in use; 51.9% answered they could use it and not be embarrassed, 30.9% would use it because they did not have to see a doctor, and 17.1% would use it as it allows them to take a smear in all conditions and whenever they want. Of the women, 60.0% thought that they could not successfully use Kato's device; 40.0% thought that a smear should be taken by a doctor. Conclusions: Most of the women in our population had never had a Pap smear and wanted to use the Kato's device.

      • Effect of Home Care Service on the Quality of Life in Patients with Gynecological Cancer

Aktas, Demet,Terzioglu, Fusun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.9

The purpose of the research was to determine the effect of home care service on the quality of life in patients with gynecological cancer. This randomized case control study was carried out in a womans hospital between September 2011 and February 2012. Women undergoing gynecological cancer treatment were separated into intervention and control groups, of 35 patients each. The intervention group was provided with nursing care service through hospital and home visits ($1^{st}$, $12^{th}$ weeks) within the framework of a specifically developed nursing care plan. The control group was monitored without any intervention through the hospital routine protocols ($1^{st}$, $12^{th}$ weeks). Data were collected using An Interview Form, Home Visit Monitoring Form and Quality of Life Scale/Cancer Survivors. Effects of home care service on the quality of life in gynecological cancer patients were investigated using chi-square tests, McNemar's test, independent t-test and ANOVA. This study found that the intervention group receiving home care service had a moderately high quality of life (average mean: $6.01{\pm}0.64$), while the control group had comparatively lower quality (average mean: $4.35{\pm}0.79$) within the 12 week post-discharge period (p<0.05). This study found home care services to be efficient in improving the quality of life in patients with gynecological cancer.

      • Poster Session : PS 0160 ; Diabetes : Qt Dispersion: Comparison Between Type 2 Diabetic with Microalbuminuria Positive and Negative Patients

( Esma Altunoglu ),( Mustafa Boz ),( Cuneyt Muderrisoglu ),( Fusun Erdenen ),( Ender Ulgen ),( Mustafa Duran ),( Nurcan Ozbas ) 대한내과학회 2014 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2014 No.1

Background: It is shown that the variability of distance between QT derivations in twelve derivation ECG; is risk factor for sudden death as a predictor of cardiovascular mortality in both diabetic and general population. Diabetic nephropathy is one of the most common complication of diabetes. The purpose was to investigate the relationship between QT parameters and microalbumin/creatinine ratio; as an indicator of endothelial function and a cardiovascular risk factor. Methods: 100 patients were included our study who were follow up Istanbul Education and Research Hospital Diabetes Outpatient Clinic. 50 patients whose microalbumin/ creatinine ratio less than 30 mg/dl and ages between 36 and 77 years were chosen as control group; 50 patients whose microalbumin/ creatinine ratio between 30- 300 mg/dl and ages between 36 and 79 years were chosen as patient group. The QT interval was measured on the 12-lead resting ECG. QTd was calculated automatically using special software. Results: In patients group QTC min median value was higher; 380,63(361,44-397,30), (p=0,042),QTC max median value was significantly higher; 439,63(420,17-460,22), (p=0,005) and microalbumin/creatinine value 82(60-300), (p=0,0001) was very signifi cantly higher than control group. There was no signifi cant difference QTC dispersion median value 61,25(49,91-81,70, (p=0,066) in both groups. Also a good correlation in positive direction between QTC dispersion values and microalbumin/creatinine value was determined. Conclusions: We researched the relation between microalbumin/creatinine ratio and QTd levels in type 2 diabetic patients. QTc max period was determined signifi cantly high in the group with microalbumin/creatinine between 30-300 mg/dl (p<0,05). As a result of this correlation QT prolongation can be use as a contributory parameter for prediction of cardiovascular risk. This study make us that QTd can be used as early indicator of cardiovascular risk in diabetic patients who aren`t in microalbuminuric stage yet.

Effect of Lycopene on Caspase-3 Enzyme Activation in Liver of Methanol-Intoxicated Rats: Comparison with Fomepizole

        Mehmet Ali Kurcer,Zehra Kurcer,Mete Koksal,Fusun Baba,Ali Rıza Ocak,Nurten Aksoy,Ahmet Atessahin,Engin Sahna 한국식품영양과학회 2010 Journal of medicinal food Vol.13 No.4

Lycopene is one of the major carotenoids and is found almost exclusively in tomatoes and tomato products. This study was performed to evaluate the effect of lycopene on methanol-induced liver injury and to compare the results with those after fomepizole, which is used in treatment of methanol intoxication. Experiments were carried out with 30 female Wistar rats weighting 180–200g. Rats were injected with a intraperitoneally dose of 3g/kg methanol as a 50% solution in isotonic saline once for intoxication. Rats were pretreated with fomepizole (50mg/kg) and/or lycopene (10mg/kg) before methanol. After 24 hours all the drug-treated and intoxicated rats were sacrificed under anesthesia. Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were determined in order to assess lipid peroxidation, and caspase-3 activity was determined by immunostaining of liver tissues to evaluate apoptosis. Methanol administration significantly increased the MDA level and caspase-3 activity in liver. Pretreatment with lycopene and/or fomepizole decreased the MDA levels significantly. Similarly, lycopene and fomepizole decreased methanol-induced caspase-3 activity. The findings of the present study demonstrate that methanol intoxication causes hepatic toxicity in rats and that this is likely a result of reactive oxygen species and apoptosis induction. Lycopene has protective effects against methanol-induced hepatic injury similar to fomepizole. It was demonstrated for the first time that both lycopene and fomepizole prevent methanol-induced hepatic injury by reducing the increase of lipid oxidation and caspase-3 activation.

Colonic Metastasis from Carcinoma of the Breast that Mimicks a Primary Intestinal Cancer

        Kazim Uygun,Zafer Kocak,Semsi Altaner,Irfan Cicin,Fusun Tokatli,Cem Uzal 연세대학교의과대학 2006 Yonsei medical journal Vol.47 No.4

Although the lung, liver, or bones are the most common location for distant metastases in breast cancer patients, metastases to the intestinal tract are very rarely recognized in the clinic. We will present an unusual case of colonic metastasis from a carcinoma of the breast that mimics a primary intestinal cancer, along with a through review of English language medical literature. Despite the fact that isolated gastrointestinal (GI) metastases are very rare and much less common than benign disease processes or second primaries of the intestinal tract in patients with a history of breast cancer, metastatic disease should be given consideration whenever a patient experiences GI symptoms.
