Convergence rate of extremes for the generalized short-tailed symmetric distribution
Fuming Lin,Zuoxiang Peng,Kaizhi Yu 대한수학회 2016 대한수학회보 Vol.53 No.5
Denote $M_{n}$ the maximum of $n$ independent and identically distributed variables from the generalized short-tailed symmetric distribution. This paper shows the pointwise convergence rate of the distribution of $M_{n}$ to $\exp(-e^{-x})$ and the supremum-metric-based convergence rate as well.

The rate of convergence of the distribution of order statisticsto the corresponding extreme-value distribution may be characterized bythe uniform and total variation metrics. de Haan and Resnick [4] de-rived the convergence rate when the second order generalized regularlyvarying function has second order derivatives. In this paper, based on theproperties of the generalized regular variation and the second order gener-alized variation and characterized by uniform and total variation metrics, the convergence rates of the distribution of the largest order statistic areobtained under weaker conditions.

Mesoporous alumina was synthesized using bayberry tannin (BT) as template. This novel synthesis strategy was based on a precipitation method associated with aluminum nitrate as the source of aluminum in an aqueous system. N2 adsorption/desorption, XRD, SEM and TEM were used to characterize the as-prepared mesoporous alumina. The results showed that the mesoporous alumina possessed crystalline pore wall, high specific surface area, narrow pore distribution and excellent thermal stability. Moreover, the surface area and pore size of the mesoporous alumina can be tuned by changing the experimental parameters. Further, the mesoporous alumina was investigated as the support of palladium catalyst (Pd-Al2O3*) for the hydrogenation of propenyl, styrene and linoleic acid. For comparison, the reference catalyst (Pd-Al2O3) prepared without barberry tannin was also employed for the catalytic hydrogenation. The experimental results showed that Pd-Al2O3* exhibited the superior catalytic performance than Pd-Al2O3 for all the investigated substrates, especially for the hydrogenation of linoleic acid with larger molecular.

Species in the subfamily Lipotactinae are brachypterous with a small body and have limited dispersal ability. In this study, it’s the first time to describe the male calling song of Lipotactes truncatus Shi & Li, 2009. MaxEnt was used to predict the potential geographic distribution of Lipotactinae in present-day and year 2070, in order to explore responses to global warming of this subfamily in China. As for L. truncatus, two types of calling songs are observed with the peak frequencies in the ultrasound range. With the trend of global warming, the suitable habitats of the subfamily Lipotactinae will change in three ways: i) migrate to high latitude area; ii) migrate to the coastal region of south China; iii) migrate along altitude gradients in mountains. Some species will be locked into the “sky islands”, which will accelerate speciation process, with global warming.

CNx nanocrystals and nanotubes were synthesized on Co/Ni-covered Si(100) wafers using a nitrogen-atom-beam-assisted pulsed laser ablation deposition method. Transimission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy showed that nanometer-sized CNx nanocrystals and nanotubes were contained in the as-deposited lms. The co-catalyzation by the cobalt and nickel in the synthesis process is considered to play an important role in the formation of CNx nanocrystals and nanotubes. The reasons for the formation of CNx nanocrystals and nanotubes have been analyzed.

An International Freshman Exchange Program: A Trial for Engineering Design Education
Elizabeth Webeck,Fumihiko Imamura,Fuming Wang,Hongmin Zhu,Tetsuya Nagasak 한국공학교육학회 2012 공학교육연구 Vol.15 No.4
The Engineering school of Tohoku University has been offering a Team-based Engineering Design Course to its first year students since 1996 in order to increase the level of both motivation and interest in engineering. Freshmen are required to select one of approximately 150 topics and do some research on this topic. This course also provides opportunities for students to participate in exchange programs with the University of Washington (UW) and the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB). In the Tohoku-UW exchange program, which began in 1999, between 10 and 25 students of Tohoku visit the UW annually to present the results of the subjects the school has appointed in advance in the Team-based Engineering Design Course. In the Tohoku-USTB exchange program, which began in 2007, about 15 students from each university participate in a one day meeting organized by the students themselves. They give a presentation on either the results of the subject they selected in the course, or on an engineering related topic both groups have agreed to in advance. In this paper, a detailed history, the objectives, a schedule and the budget in these unique exchange programs is introduced together with an outline of the course and its contribution to the engineering design education.
Dual graph-regularized Constrained Nonnegative Matrix Factorization for Image Clustering
( Jing Sun ),( Xibiao Cai ),( Fuming Sun ),( Richang Hong ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2017 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.11 No.5
Nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) has received considerable attention due to its effectiveness of reducing high dimensional data and importance of producing a parts-based image representation. Most of existing NMF variants attempt to address the assertion that the observed data distribute on a nonlinear low-dimensional manifold. However, recent research results showed that not only the observed data but also the features lie on the low-dimensional manifolds. In addition, a few hard priori label information is available and thus helps to uncover the intrinsic geometrical and discriminative structures of the data space. Motivated by the two aspects above mentioned, we propose a novel algorithm to enhance the effectiveness of image representation, called Dual graph-regularized Constrained Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (DCNMF). The underlying philosophy of the proposed method is that it not only considers the geometric structures of the data manifold and the feature manifold simultaneously, but also mines valuable information from a few known labeled examples. These schemes will improve the performance of image representation and thus enhance the effectiveness of image classification. Extensive experiments on common benchmarks demonstrated that DCNMF has its superiority in image classification compared with state-of-the-art methods.
