An Economic-Statistical Design of Moving Average Control Charts
Yu, Fong-Jung,Chin, Hsiang,Huang, Hsiao Wei The Korean Society for Quality Management 2006 The Asian Journal on Quality Vol.7 No.3
Control charts are important tools of statistical quality control. In 1956, Duncan first proposed the economic design of $\bar{x}-control$ charts to control normal process means and insure that the economic design control chart actually has a lower cost, compared with a Shewhart control chart. An moving average (MA) control chart is more effective than a Shewhart control chart in detecting small process shifts and is considered by some to be simpler to implement than the CUSUM. An economic design of MA control chart has also been proposed in 2005. The weaknesses to only the economic design are poor statistics because it dose not consider type I or type II errors and average time to signal when selecting design parameters for control chart. This paper provides a construction of an economic-statistical model to determine the optimal parameters of an MA control chart to improve economic design. A numerical example is employed to demonstrate the model's working and its sensitivity analysis is also provided.

White-rot fungi of the genus Bjerkandera are cosmopolitan and have shown potential for industrial application and bioremediation. When distinguishing morphological characters are no longer present (e.g., cultures or dried specimen fragments), characterizing true sequences of Bjerkandera is crucial for accurate identification and application of the species. To build a framework for molecular identification of Bjerkandera, we carefully identified specimens of B. adusta and B. fumosa from Korea based on morphological characters, followed by sequencing the internal transcribed spacer region and 28S nuclear ribosomal large subunit. The phylogenetic analysis of Korean Bjerkandera specimens showed clear genetic differentiation between the two species. Using this phylogeny as a framework, we examined the identification accuracy of sequences available in GenBank. Analyses revealed that many Bjerkandera sequences in the database are either misidentified or unidentified. This study provides robust reference sequences for sequence-based identification of Bjerkandera, and further demonstrates the presence and dangers of incorrect sequences in GenBank.

The economic design of control charts has been researched for over four decades since Duncan proposed the concept in 1956. Few studies, however, have focused attention on the economic design of a moving average (MA) control chart. An MA control chart is more effective than the Shewhart chart in detecting small process shifts [9]. This paper provides an economic model for determining the optimal parameters of an MA control chart with multiple assignable causes and two failures in the production process. These parameters consist of the sample size, the spread of the control limit and the sampling interval. A numerical example is shown and the sensitivity analysis shows that the magnitude of shift, rate of occurrence of assignable causes and increasing cost when the process is out of control have a more significant effect on the loss cost, meaning that one should more carefully estimate these values when conducting an economic analysis.

Activity-guided fractionation of the EtOAc-soluble extract of the whole plants of Sida acuta using a bioassay based on the induction of quinone reductase (OR) in cultured Hepa 1c1c7 mouse hepatoma cells, led to the isolation of ten active compounds of previously known structure, quindolinone (1), cryptolepinone (2), 11-methoxyquindoline (3), N-trans-feruloyltyramine (4), vomifoliol (5), loliolide (6), 4-ketopinoresinol (7), scopoletin (8), evofolin-A (9), and evofolin-B (10), along with five inactive compounds of known structure, ferulic acid, sinapic acid, syringic acid, ($\pm$)-syringaresinol, and vanillic acid. These isolates were identified by physical and spectral data measurement. A new derivative of quindolinone, 5,10-dimethylquindolin-11-one (1a) was synthesized and characterized spectroscopically. Of the active substances, compounds 1-3 and 1a exhibited the most potent QR activity, with observed CD (concentration required to double induction) values ranging from 0.01 to 0.12 $\mu$ g/mL. Six compounds were then evaluated in a mouse mammary organ culture assay, with cryptolepinone (2), N-trans-feruloyltyramine (4), and 5,10-dimethylquindolin-11-one (1a) found to exhibit 83.3, 75.0, and 66.7% inhibition of 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene-induced preneoplastic lesions, respectively, at a dose of 10 $\mu\textrm{g}$/mL.

Basidiomycetous macrofungi play important roles in maintaining forest ecosystems via carbon cycling and the mobilization of nitrogen and phosphorus. To understand the impact of human activity on macrofungi, an ongoing project at the Korea National Arboretum is focused on surveying the macrofungi in unexploited areas. Mt. Oseo was targeted in this survey because the number of visitors to this destination has been steadily increasing, and management and conservation plans for this destination are urgently required. Through 5 field surveys of Mt. Oseo from April to October 2012, 116 specimens of basidiomycetous macrofungi were collected and classified. The specimens were identified to the species level by analyzing their morphological characteristics and their DNA sequence data. A total of 80 species belonging to 57 genera and 25 families were identified. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to identify five of these species-Artomyces microsporus, Hymenopellis raphanipes, Pholiota abietis, Phylloporus brunneiceps, and Sirobasidium magnum-in Korea.

A new species belonging to Lactarius subg. Plinthogalus was discovered during a long-term project on the diversity of Korean Lactarius. This species is proposed here as Lactarius cucurbitoides. The status of L. cucurbitoides as a new species is supported by molecular data and morphological features. Phylogenetic analysis based on internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences shows that L. cucurbitoides is closely related to L. subplinthogalus, L. friabilis, and L. oomsisiensis, with pairwise distances of 2.8-4.3%. Morphological characters of L. cucurbitoides that distinguish it from these closely related species are a pale yellow to pale orange colored pileus and non-discoloration of white latex. The new species is described and illustrated in the present paper.

Distinguishing individual Russula species can be very difficultdue to extensive phenotypic plasticity and obscure morphologicaland anatomical discontinuities. In this study, weuse the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and 28S nuclearribosomal large subunit (LSU) markers to identify and studythe genetic diversity of species in the Russula subgenus Compactain Korea. We focus on two morphologically similarspecies that are often misidentified for each other: R. nigricansand R. subnigricans. Based on molecular phylogeneticanalyses, we identify three subgroups of R. nigricans, with two from Asia and one from Europe/North America. Surprisingly, we find Korean R. subnigricans are more closelyrelated to R. eccentrica from North America than the typespecimen of R. subnigricans from Japan. These moleculardata, along with habitat data, reveal that Korean R. subnigricanshad previously been misclassified and should nowbe recognized as R. eccentrica. Both ITS and LSU exhibit highinterspecific and low intraspecific variation for R. eccentrica,R. nigricans, and R. subnigricans. These markers provideenough resolutional power to differentiate these speciesand uncover phylogeographic structure, and will be powerfultools for future ecological studies of Russula.

Amiodarone has a potent suppressive effect on supraventricular and ventricular dysrhythmias, so has widely used as a class Ⅲ antiarrhythmic agent. However, significant side effects were noted in over 50% of patients treated. Pulmonary toxicity represents the most serious adverse raeaction limiting the clinical efficacy of this new antidysrhythmic drug. A 66-year-old male had received amiodarone 200mg/day for 7 months to control high grade ventricular premature contraction and was admitted due to dyspnea on exertion for 1 week. At the time of admission end-inspiratory crepitant rale was heard on auscultation. The roentgenogram of his chest revealed reticular and granular radioopaque densities on both lower lung fields and high resonance CT revealed interstitial fibrosis and pneumonic consolidations on the periphery of the both middle and lower lobes. Trans-bronchoscopic lung biopsy revealed non-specific intersitial fibrosis. The laboratory findings were non-specific. We present a case of amiodarone-induced interstitial pulmonary disease clinically improved by cortico-steroid therapy.
