This article analyzes the role of spelling in the virtual interactions that occur in dating websites. Through interviews, it is shown how this element becomes a fundamental factor in the evaluation of the other. Based on Bourdieu, we affirm that spelling functions as «symbolic capital» in the virtual couple market.

Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Purpose: To verify the association of hamstring tightness and range of motion in anterior pelvic tilt (PT), lumbar motion (LM), and trunk flexion (TF) during forward bending. Overview of Literature: Increased hamstring stiffness could be a possible contributing factor to low back injuries. Clinical observations have suggested that hamstring tightness influences lumbar pelvic rhythm. Movement restrictions or postural asymmetry likely lead to compensatory movement patterns of the lumbar spine, and subsequently to increased stress on the spinal soft tissues and an increased risk of low back pain (LBP). Methods: Hamstring muscle tightness was measured using the self-monitored active knee extension (AKE) test. A bubble inclinometer was used to determine the range of motion of PT, LM, and TF during forward bending. Statistical analysis included descriptive statistics, comparisons between groups and a correlation between hamstring tightness (AKE) and anterior PT, TF, and regional LM with p ≤0.05. Results: The LBP group was composed of 36 participants, and the asymptomatic group consisted of 32 participants. The mean for PT in the control group was 66.7°, 64.5° for LM and 104.6° for TF. Respective values in the symptomatic group were 57.0°, 79.8°, and 82.2°. Conclusions: Participants with LBP showed restriction in the pelvis and TF range of motion, but had higher amplitudes in the lumbar spine during forward bending.

Defined as a rationalized activity, online dating is characterized as a process which lacks emotion. This paper analyses Chilean internet users' opinions about online dating websites as well as the national users' experiences in these virtual spaces. The focus is placed on both the presence of feelings in the digital interactions they undertake, and the interpretations make from this experience.

Multidrug resistance (MDR) is a major impediment to successful chemotherapy of gastric cancer. Our aim was to establish an epirubicin-resistant cell subline (AGS/EPI) and to elucidate the mechanisms involved in acquired EPI resistance. The AGS/EPI cell subline developed by exposing parental AGS cells to stepwise increasing concentrations of EPI demonstrated 2.52-fold resistance relative to the AGS cell line, and mRNA expression of the ATP-dependent drug-efflux pump P-glycoprotein (Pgp), more recently known as ABCB1 protein, was similarly upregulated. An AGS/EPI cell subline could thus be effectively established, and MDR mechanism of these cells was shown to be related to the overexpression of mRNA of the ABCB1 gene.

The hybrid manufacturing procedure of combining an initial machining process and a posterior laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) process opens a new range of possibilities for manufacturing complex parts, promising to reduce both costs and printing time. Hence, the first portion of the part might be manufactured by machining, which is used as the substrate for the LPBF. Different manufacturing processes produce a melting interface zone (MIZ) that can affect the mechanical properties of hybrid parts. This work investigates the properties of the MIZ in hybrid parts. The influence of the energy density of the LPBF process on the interface zone and the mechanical properties of the final hybrid part were assessed. The different tests showed high-quality interphase even with low energy density, with a melting depth of up to 0.3 mm. Tomography analysis showed no pores in the MIZ and the increase in pore number with the scanning speed, reducing the UTS of the hybrid samples from 8 to 42% in relation to machined Corrax®. Additionally, a test piece for injection molding was produced by this new hybrid manufacturing process. The results showed that the costs and manufacturing time were reduced by about 50%, showing a potential application of hybrid manufacturing in such applications. Besides, this work identifies a limitation of the hybrid manufacturing approach using LPBF machines which are not equipped with a system to identify the substrate coordinate system. The present study develops an operational method to identify the coordinate system in order to ease the referencing of the pre-machined substrate within the machine platform.

This study reports the clinical use of two sevoflurane-based anesthetic techniques in dogs undergoing craniectomy. Twenty-one animals undergoing elective rostrotentorial or transfrontal craniectomy for brain tumor excision, anesthetized with sevoflurane, were enrolled in this retrospective, observational study. Anesthetic records were allocated to two groups: Sevo-Op (sevoflurane and short acting opioid infusion): 8 dogs and Sevo-Dex (sevoflurane and dexmedetomidine infusion): 13 dogs. Average mean arterial pressure (MAP), heart rate, end-tidal carbon dioxide, end-tidal sevoflurane and intraoperative infusion rates during surgery were calculated. Presence of intra-operative and post-operative bradycardia, tachycardia, hypotension, hypertension, hypothermia, hyperthermia was recorded. Time to endotracheal extubation, intraoperative occurrence of atrioventricular block, postoperative presence of agitation, seizures, use of labetalol and dexmedetomidine infusion were also recorded. Data from the two groups were compared with Fisher's exact test and unpaired t tests with Welch's correction. Odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated for categorical variables. Intra-operatively, MAP was lower in Sevo-Op [85 (± 6.54) vs. 97.69 (± 7.8) mmHg, p = 0.0009]. Time to extubation was longer in Sevo-Dex [37.69 (10–70) vs. 19.63 (10–25), p = 0.0033]. No differences were found for the other intra-operative and post-operative variables investigated. Post-operative hypertension and agitation were the most common complications (11 and 12 out of 21 animals, respectively). These results suggest that the infusion of dexmedetomidine provides similar intra-operative conditions and post-operative course to a short acting opioid infusion during sevoflurane anesthesia in dogs undergoing elective rostrotentorial or transfrontal intracranial surgery.
