        miR-98 suppresses melanoma metastasis through a negative feedback loop with its target gene IL-6

        Dysregulated microRNA (miRNA) expression has a critical role in tumor development and metastasis. However, the mechanism by which miRNAs control melanoma metastasis is unknown. Here, we report reduced miR-98 expression in melanoma tissues with increasing tumor stage as well as metastasis; its expression is also negatively associated with melanoma patient survival. Furthermore, we demonstrate that miR-98 inhibits melanoma cell migration in vitro as well as metastatic tumor size in vivo. We also found that IL-6 is a target gene of miR-98, and IL-6 represses miR-98 levels via the Stat3-NF-κB-lin28B pathway. In an in vivo melanoma model, we demonstrate that miR-98 reduces melanoma metastasis and increases survival in part by reducing IL-6 levels; it also decreases Stat3 and p65 phosphorylation as well as lin28B mRNA levels. These results suggest that miR-98 inhibits melanoma metastasis in part through a novel miR-98-IL-6-negative feedback loop.

      • Predict Time Series with Multiple Artificial Neural Networks

        Time series prediction is a challenging research area with broad application prospects in machine learning. Accurate prediction on a time series’ value can provide important information for the decision-makers. In the literature, many works were reported to extend different architecture of artificial neural networks to work with time series prediction. However, most of the work only considered the target time series itself, while neglecting the impact of the relevant time series. In this paper we proposed a novel method MANNP that makes use of multiple artificial neural networks to conduct the time series prediction. The proposed method creates time series model and forecast time series. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, we apply MANNP to a shipping price index time series prediction. The experimental results show that this method can improve accuracy of prediction when compared with traditional methods.

        Multi-objective variable parameter optimization algorithm for spiral bevel gear tooth surface considering meshing efficiency and contact performance

        A multi-objective variable parameter optimization method that considers meshing efficiency and contact performance simultaneously is proposed to optimize the tooth surface of spiral bevel gears to achieve higher contact performance and transmission efficiency. First, the tooth surface equations of the spiral bevel gear are established in line with the gear cutting process, and the deviation of tooth surface is analyzed and controlled. Second, the machine tool parameters with the greatest impact on the tooth surface are selected on the basis of the sensitivity analysis approach as the optimization design variables, and the relationship between the machine tool parameters, contact performance, and meshing efficiency is established. Third, the multi-objective variable parameter optimization algorithm is applied to determine the final optimal machine parameters, and the multi-objective optimization algorithm for the tooth surface of spiral bevel gear is formed. Finally, the correctness and effectiveness of the algorithm are verified by numerical simulation and experiment.

        Magnetic Properties of Fe-Pt Films Electrodeposited by Diffusion Control

        Fe-Pt films were produced by a simple method of electrodeposition under diffusion control, using a novel bath system containing small amounts of Fe2+ and PtCl6(2-). The films were annealed and, their structure and magnetic properties were studied. The sample started to show some ordering at a temperature less than 550°C, which is lower than the previously reported ordering temperature. A coercivity of 3.2 kOe, comparable to previous data, and a squareness of 0.7 were obtained after the film was vacuum-annealed at 550°C for 15 min. The films displayed a longitudinal magnetic anisotropy. The obtained results promise this method to be a new choice for electrodeposition of Fe-Pt films.

        Energy Saving in Cluster-Based Wireless Sensor Networks through Cooperative MIMO with Idle-Node Participation

        In cluster-based wireless sensor networks, the energy could be saved when the nodes that have data to transmit participate in cooperative multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO). In this paper, by making the idle nodes that have no data to transmit participate in the cooperative MIMO, it is found that much more energy could be saved. The number of the idle nodes that participate in the cooperative MIMO is optimized to minimize the total energy consumption. It is also found that the optimal number of all the nodes participating in cooperative communication does not vary with the number of nodes that have data to transmit. The proposition is proved mathematically. The influence of long-haul distance and modulation constellation size on the total energy consumption is investigated. A cooperative MIMO scheme with help-node participation is proposed and the simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves significant energy saving.

        Preparation and Photocatalytic Mechanism of Ag3PO4/SnO2 Composite Photocatalyst

        A simple hydrothermal conversion method for the preparation of Ag3PO4/SnO2 composite photocatalyst has been developed. The morphological properties of the nanocomposites are studied using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and other methods. Different properties of catalysts are prepared by adjusting the temperature of hydrothermal reaction and the volume ratio. The prepared photocatalyst is tested by degradation of tetracycline solution under visible light show that the degradation rate of tetracycline can reach 74% when the initial [Ag3PO4]/[SnO2] molar ratio is 15 and the temperature is 140 ℃. Moreover, by constructing Ag3PO4/SnO2 composite structure, the impedance and photocurrent of material are enhanced significantly according to the electrochemical characterization.

        한국 대중가요 가사 유형화에 토픽 모델링(LDA 및 STM) 적용 실용성 시론 - 70년대 이후 “사랑” 주제어 관련 가사를 중심으로-

        In Korea, popular songs could be a very important way for people to express their "love" feelings, which inspired many researchers to excavate the hidden connections between humans’ love perception and popular songs with different genres based on the lyrics with "love-centered" keywords. Traditionally, a qualitative analysis of "love-centered" lyrics should focus on several typical instances extracted from the whole samples, generalizing the characteristics of a specific writer or brief period. However, with the development of computer science and statistics, it now provides a new perspective for us to elucidate the true meanings behind the natural language texts without human beings’ subjective interpretations. This quantitative analysis method, on the one hand, can efficiently relieve the manual classification burdens and generate a more precise sorting result even than human beings' doing. On the other hand, the rigidly quantized classification criteria sometimes can also incur several enigmatic conclusions conflicting with people's intuitional judgment. To demonstrate the practicability of it, this paper hence chose to manipulate 5082 Korean "love-centered" lyrics collected from online with 2 kinds of considerably valuable "topic models": LAD & STM, aimed to 1. verify the feasibility of automatically constructing a taxonomy system of "love-centered" lyrics; 2. examine and speculate a diachronic correlation between "love-centered" lyrics and published years. As a result, it is of great necessity to optimize the themes K selection when conducting a topic modeling experiment. And based on a reasonable classification, it is possible to observe a significant regressive trend on different groups of "love-centered" lyrics through years. But because of the performance limitation of topic modelling, there are still some biased cases that can be found, which implies a further improvement not just on technical parameter testing but also on a potential collaboration between quantitative and qualitative analysis.

        Experimental investigation of novel pre-tightened teeth connection technique for composite tube

        A new composite tube connection method called the pre-tightened teeth connection technique is proposed to improve the composite tube connection efficiency. This paper first introduces the manufacturing process of the proposed technique. It then outlines how the mechanical properties of this technology were tested using four test groups. The factors that influence the load-bearing capacity and damage model of the connection were analyzed, and finally, the transfer load mechanism was investigated. The following conclusions can be obtained from the research results. (1) The new technique improves the compressive connection efficiency by a maximum of 79%, with the efficiency exceeding that of adhesive connections of the same thickness. (2) Changing the depth of teeth results in two types of damage: local compressive damage and shear damage. The bearing capacity can be improved by increasing the depth, length, and number of teeth as well as the pretightening force. (3) The capacity of the technique to transfer high loads is a result of both the relatively high interlaminar shear strength of the pultruded composite and the interlaminar shear strength increase provided by the pre-tightening force. The proposed technique shows favorable mechanical properties, and therefore, it can be extensively applied in the engineering field.

        Effect of Ultrasonic Power on the Microstructure and Properties of 304 Stainless Steel Welded Joints Through Cold Metal Transfer Welding Assisted with Ultrasonication

        With the development of welding technology, low heat input and high efficiency cold metal transfer welding have become the main methods of thin plate welding. However, low heat input easily forms columnar crystals, which will endanger the mechanical properties of joints. Therefore, ultrasonication treatment was applied to the cold metal transfer welding of 304 stainless steel to conduct cold metal transfer welding assisted with ultrasonication in this paper. The comparison between cold metal transfer welding assisted with ultrasonication and cold metal transfer showed that the weld grain diameter obtained by cold metal transfer welding assisted with ultrasonication was finer. In the welded joint, the maximum grain size diameter of the weld seam in cold metal transfer welding assisted with ultrasonication decreased to 375 μm, and the maximum tensile strength of cold metal transfer welding assisted with ultrasonication increased to 734 MPa. The texture intensity of the weld seam in cold metal transfer was significantly greater than that of the weld seam in cold metal transfer welding assisted with ultrasonication, which was ascribed to the improvement of the microstructure of the weld seam in cold metal transfer welding assisted with ultrasonication. In cold metal transfer welding assisted with ultrasonication, the flow performance of the welding pool increased, and the ultrasonic cavitation degree was intensified. This resulted in the significant refinement of the weld grain, the reduction of texture intensity, and an increase in the tensile strength.
