        While innovation is currently perceived as the response to economic crises and societal issues, its processes as well as the know-how to apply it, are still emerging as a body of knowledge. Hence, management practices and engineering approaches currently call for a renewal in their education and their training. This renewal is often based on the integration of practices inspired from design more or less deeply in the curriculum. Yet, designers have to face more and more complex problems that span over products and services to address social stakes and organization systems. Designers have to face increasingly complex problems existing in dynamic socio-economic contexts, dealing with technological complexity induced by pervasive embedded systems and new wireless distributed paradigms, and deployed in financial and managerial dimensions and social and human stakes. This paper explains how Design Thinking, developed as a project management framework integrating entrepreneurship dimension as well as actor network theory can be a way to enhance training in design.

      • Sensorless Drive of Surface Mounted Permanent-Magnet Brushless DC Machines with Diametric Windings based on Inductance Measurements

        Last decades, important progress have been made in sensorless control methods based on the tracking of magnetic anisotropies linked to the rotor. These methods allow to estimate the rotor position at low speed down to standstill. The magnetic anisotropy is generally approached by a sinusoidal shaped function. However, the theory must be adapted in case of additional harmonic content in the anisotropy function. This paper specifically addresses the problem for the surface-mounted permanent-magnet brushless DC machines with diametric windings. They present a peculiar magnetic anisotropy that suggests a simple method to detect the inversion of the magnetic field as a replacement to the dedicated sensors which are often used.

        Association between symptoms, quality of life and gastric emptying in dyspeptic patients

        Background/Aims Association between symptoms, quality of life and gastric emptying in dyspepsia is inconsistent in the literature. The aim of our study is to investigate if gastric emptying is associated with specific symptoms and quality of life in dyspeptic patients. Methods We reviewed retrospectively gastric emptying measured by 13C-labelled octanoate breath testing for more than 6 hours in 198 consecutive patients with dyspepsia complaints. Gastrointestinal symptoms were assessed using a 5-points Likert scale and by a symptomatic composite score, whereas quality of life was measured by the GIQLI. Results In our cohort, 90 patients (45%) had a delayed gastric emptying (half emptying time above 166 minutes when assessed over 6–8 hours). There was no difference in symptoms or quality of life between patients with or without delayed gastric emptying. However, patients with severely delayed gastric emptying (half emptying time above 200 minutes) had increased postprandial fullness (P = 0.012), abdominal pain (P = 0.026), bloating (P = 0.044), early satiety (P = 0.018), symptomatic composite score (P = 0.005), and a lower quality of life (P = 0.018). This association was no longer observed if the calculation of gastric emptying was limited to the first 4-hour samples. Conclusions There is no association between symptoms, quality of life and gastric emptying in an overall dyspeptic population. However, there is an association between symptoms, quality of life of delayed gastric emptying in the subgroup of patients with severely delayed gastric emptying. An 8-hour measurement of gastric emptying should be recommended.

        L’écriture numérique: entre norme et variation sociolinguistique (le cas de Mayotte)

        Digital tools are everywhere: they occupy a great part of our day even all of it, whoever we are and wherever we are. At the end of 2016, we will reach the number of 3.5 billions of Internet users worldwide, including 48 millions in France. The French people have never used so many digital devices and one of the most common uses is the digital communication. This digital communication is pluri-semiotic: it’s done by voice, by image and by writing. This kind of numerical writing is what we are interested in this article. We will explain what these kind of writers produce with it: - A variety of handwriting composed of “écrilectes” (Laroussi & Liénard, 2013; Liénard, 2014a); - “Technological discursive traces” (Paveau, 2013) being all of them a sort of identity marks (Bevilacqua, 2016); - Or a handwriting variation from a particular language, sometimes, "among other languages" (Laroussi & Liénard, 2008, Liénard, 2014b). This last aspect, in particular, it will lead us to focus our interest in the numerical writing of multilingual writers. Based on Jim Cummins’ works (1984, 2000), we will try to describe the Mahoran’s literacy skills who write this type of language nowadays, and write the languages of Mayotte in the digital networks. Les outils numériques sont partout: ils occupent une grande partie de notre journée, même tous, quel que soit notre pays et où que nous soyons. À la fin de 2016, nous atteindrons le nombre de 3,5 milliards d'internautes dans le monde, dont 48 millions en France. Le peuple français n'a jamais utilisé autant de dispositifs numériques et l'un des usages les plus courants est la communication numérique. Cette communication numérique est pluri-sémiotique: elle se fait par voix, par image et par écrit. Ce genre d'écriture numérique est ce qui nous intéresse dans cet article. Nous allons expliquer ce que ces types d'écrivains produisent avec elle: - Une variété d'écriture composée de "écrilectes" (Laroussi & Liénard, 2013; Liénard, 2014a); - Les «traces discursives technologiques» (Paveau, 2013) étant toutes des marques d'identité (Bevilacqua, 2016); - Ou une variante manuscrite d'une langue particulière, parfois "entre autres langues" (Laroussi & Liénard, 2008, Liénard, 2014b). Ce dernier aspect, en particulier, nous conduira à focaliser notre attention sur l'écriture numérique des écrivains multilingues. Sur la base des travaux de Jim Cummins (1984, 2000), nous tenterons de décrire les compétences linguistiques des Mahorais qui écrivent ce type de langue de nos jours et d'écrire les langues de Mayotte dans les réseaux numériques.

        Tightening Torque Influence on Pullout Behavior of Post-installed Expansion Anchors

        Post-installed anchors in reinforced concrete structures are increasingly important in current constructions especially in repair or upgrading works. A research program was completed to determine the influence of the tightening torque and the anchorage depth on the pullout performances of torque-controlled expansion anchors. The diameter d of the tested anchors was 10 mm. Six configurations were tested on 18 concrete blocks. Three pre-tension loads and two anchorage depths were considered. The results show that the fastening torque has no influence on the load-bearing capacity far away from the edges. However, an increase of the torque leads to a decrease of the anchor’s slipping during pullout tests. Nevertheless, applying an excessive fastening torque may lead to a steel-rupture of the anchor during the fastening phase. An increase of the anchorage depth leads to a better load capacity of the anchor and reduces the risk of concrete cone rupture. Finally, a simplified model of the tension response of the anchor with a bilinear load-displacement relationship has been suggested.

We find that liberalizing from high trade costs, a country can attract both capital and labour – the bifurcation pattern is a gradual peripheral exodus of workers associated with capital flight from the periphery – but after a threshold of trade costs, opening trade generates return migration toward the periphery while capital remains agglomerated in the core. The model is built on the assumption that factors are sector specific. By relaxing this assumption and by providing a second model where workers are mobile between industries (vertically linked) but also between countries we confirm this result.

        Modelling cavitating flow around underwater missiles

        The diffuse interface model of Saurel et al. (2008) is used for the computation of compressible cavitating flows around underwater missiles. Such systems use gas injection and natural cavitation to reduce drag effects. Consequently material interfaces appear separating liquid and gas. These interfaces may have a really complex dynamics such that only a few formulations are able to predict their evolution. Contrarily to front tracking or interface reconstruction method the interfaces are computed as diffused numerical zones, that are captured in a routinely manner, as is done usually with gas dynamics solvers for shocks and contact discontinuity. With the present approach, a single set of partial differential equations is solved everywhere, with a single numerical scheme. This leads to very efficient solvers. The algorithm derived in Saurel et al. (2009) is used to compute cavitation pockets around solid bodies. It is first validated against experiments done in cavitation tunnel at CNU. Then it is used to compute flows around high speed underwater systems (Shkval-like missile). Performance data are then computed showing method ability to predict forces acting on the system.
