This paper presents a new approach to robust tracking control of the nonlinear sampled systems using a discrete-time fuzzy disturbance observer (DFDO). Novel update and control laws are proposed to guarantee that all the signals in the closed-loop control system are uniformly ultimately bounded (UUB) in a compact set. No persistence of excitation (PE) condition, nor the assumption on the slowness of the change of the fuzzy parameters, is required. In addition, a robustifying controller is designed to improve the tracking performance. Finally, a computer simulation example is presented to illustrate the effectiveness and the applicability of the suggested method.

This paper presents an explanation regarding on-line identification of a fuzzy system. The fuzzy system to be identified is assumed to be in the type of singleton consequent parts and be represented by a linear combination of fuzzy basis functions (FBF’)s. For on-line identification, squared-cosine (SCOS) fuzzy basis function is introduced to reduce the number of parameters to be identified and make the system consistent and differentiable. Then the parameters of the fuzzy system are identified on-line by the gradient search method. Finally, a computer simulation is performed to illustrate the validity of the suggested algorithms.

Since the inception of fuzzy control, lots of methods to design fuzzy logic controller (FLC) have been reported, However, it should be admitted that the hitherto reported works are tailored to special problems and cannot be used in general control situation. Therefore, this paper proposes the automatic rule generation algorithm of fuzzy control system which can be applied to the developments of the general-purpose automatic fuzzy rule generator. To this effect, the Genetic Algorithm(GA) is used and it searches for the optimal parameters to design the fuzzy controller.

In this paper, a previously developed automatic generation method of a fuzzy logic controller(FLC) is applied to the semi-active suspension control of a quarter car. The automatic generation of the FLC is performed by the real-coded genetic algorithm (GA) and relies on an accurate dynamic model of the quarter car suspension. To generate the FLC-based semi-active suspension system, a quadratic function used in LQR is employed as a fitness function of the GA. Finally, simulation results are provided to compare the performance of the FLC generated herein with those of the conventional hard and soft passive suspension systems and to show that the FLC outperforms the conventional passive ones in several senses such as the tire deflection, acceleration, etc.
Sensitivity Analysis of Width Representation for Gait Recognition
Sungjun Hong,Euntai Kim 한국지능시스템학회 2016 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL of FUZZY LOGIC and INTELLIGE Vol.16 No.2
In this paper, we discuss a gait representation based on the width of silhouette in terms of discriminative power and robustness against the noise in silhouette image for gait recognition. Its sensitivity to the noise in silhouette image are rigorously analyzed using probabilistic noisy silhouette model. In addition, we develop a gait recognition system using width representation and identify subjects using the decision level fusion based on majority voting. Experiments on CASIA gait dataset A and the SOTON gait database demonstrate the recognition performance with respect to the noise level added to the silhouette image.
A New Automatic Gait Cycle Partitioning Method and Its Application to Human Identification
Sungjun Hong,Euntai Kim 한국지능시스템학회 2017 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL of FUZZY LOGIC and INTELLIGE Vol.17 No.2
Gait cycle partitioning is very important prior to human gait analysis such as gait modeling, gait recognition, gait feature analysis, etc. In this paper, we propose a new automatic gait cycle partitioning method based on two kinds of simple gait representation. Then, the propose method is applied to find keyframe corresponding the rest position for gait-based human identification system. To demonstrate the validity of the proposed method, the CASIA gait dataset A and the SOTON gait database are used to evaluate the recognition performance of the gait recognition system identifying subjects using the decision level fusion based on majority voting.
Genetic Outlier Detection for a Robust Support Vector Machine
Heesung Lee,Euntai Kim 한국지능시스템학회 2015 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL of FUZZY LOGIC and INTELLIGE Vol.15 No.2
Support vector machine (SVM) has a strong theoretical foundation and also achieved excellent empirical success. It has been widely used in a variety of pattern recognition applications. Unfortunately, SVM also has the drawback that it is sensitive to outliers and its performance is degraded by their presence. In this paper, a new outlier detection method based on genetic algorithm (GA) is proposed for a robust SVM. The proposed method parallels the GA-based feature selection method and removes the outliers that would be considered as support vectors by the previous soft margin SVM. The proposed algorithm is applied to various data sets in the UCI repository to demonstrate its performance.
