        Application of meta-model based parameter identification of a seismically retrofitted reinforced concrete building

        FE models for complex or large-scaled structures that need detailed modeling of structural components are usually constructed using commercial analysis softwares. Updating of such FE model by conventional sensitivity-based methods is difficult since repeated computation for perturbed parameters and manual calculations are needed to obtain sensitivity matrix in each iteration. In this study, an FE model updating procedure avoiding such difficulties by using response surface (RS) method and a Pareto-based multiobjective optimization (MOO) was formulated and applied to FE models constructed with a commercial analysis package. The test building is a low-rise reinforced concrete building that has been seismically retrofitted. Dynamic properties of the building were extracted from vibration tests performed before and after the seismic retrofits, respectively. The elastic modulus of concrete and masonry, and spring constants for the expansion joint were updated. Two RS functions representing the errors in the natural frequencies and mode shape, respectively, were obtained and used as the objective functions for MOO. Among the Pareto solutions, the best compromise solution was determined using the TOPSIS (Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) procedure. A similar task was performed for retrofitted building by taking the updating parameters as the stiffness of modified or added members. Obtained parameters of the existing building were reasonably comparable with the current code provisions. However, the stiffness of added concrete shear walls and steel section jacketed members were considerably lower than expectation. Such low values are seemingly because the bond between new and existing concrete was not as good as the monolithically casted members, even though they were connected by the anchoring bars.

        Seismic damage detection of a reinforced concrete structure by finite element model updating

        Finite element (FE) model updating is a useful tool for global damage detection technique, which identifies the damage of the structure using measured vibration data. This paper presents the application of a finite element model updating method to detect the damage of a small-scale reinforced concrete building structure using measured acceleration data from shaking table tests. An iterative FE model updating strategy using the least-squares solution based on sensitivity of frequency response functions and natural frequencies was provided. In addition, a side constraint to mitigate numerical difficulties associated with ill-conditioning was described. The test structure was subjected to six El Centro 1942 ground motion histories with different Peak Ground Accelerations (PGA) ranging from 0.06 g to 0.5 g, and analytical models corresponding to each stage of the shaking were obtained using the model updating method. Flexural stiffness values of the structural members were chosen as the updating parameters. In model updating at each stage of shaking, the initial values of the parameter were set to those obtained from the previous stage. Severity of damage at each stage of shaking was determined from the change of the updated stiffness values. Results indicated that larger reductions in stiffness values occurred at the slab members than at the wall members, and this was consistent with the observed damage pattern of the test structure.

        Evaluation of Optimum Moisture Content for Composting of Beef Manure and Bedding Material Mixtures Using Oxygen Uptake Measurement

        Moisture content influences physiological characteristics of microbes and physical structure of solid matrices during composting of animal manure. If moisture content is maintained at a proper level, aerobic microorganisms show more active oxygen consumption during composting due to increased microbial activity. In this study, optimum moisture levels for composting of two bedding materials (sawdust, rice hull) and two different mixtures of bedding and beef manure (BS, Beef cattle manure+sawdust; BR, Beef cattle manure+rice hull) were determined based on oxygen uptake rate measured by a pressure sensor method. A broad range of oxygen uptake rates (0.3 to 33.3 mg $O_2/g$ VS d) were monitored as a function of moisture level and composting feedstock type. The maximum oxygen consumption of each material was observed near the saturated condition, which ranged from 75% to 98% of water holding capacity. The optimum moisture content of BS and BR were 70% and 57% on a wet basis, respectively. Although BS's optimum moisture content was near saturated state, its free air space kept a favorable level (above 30%) for aerobic composting due to the sawdust's coarse particle size and bulking effect.

        더위지기 추출물의 항산화 및 미백 효과

        본 연구는 더위지기의 항산화 및 미백제로서의 유효성을 알아보기 위해 100% 에탄올과 물을 이용한 추출물의 폴리페놀 함량, 플라보노이드 함량, 전자공여능, tyrosinase 활성 저해효과 및 세포내 멜라닌 생합성 억제효과를 조사하였다. 유용한 생리활성을 가질 것으로 예상되는 폴리페놀 및 플라보노이드 함량을 실험한 결과 총 폴리페놀과 플라보노이드 함량은 에탄올 추출물에서 547.96, 65.93 mg/g, 물 추출물에서 610.45, 82.86 mg/g으로 확인하였으며 더위지기의 에탄올 추출물과 물 추출물 모두 200 mg/g 이상의 높은 폴리페놀을 함유하는 것을 확인하였다. 항산화능을 평가하기 위해 DPPH를 이용한 전자공여능 실험 결과 더위지기의 에탄올 추출물에서 SC<SUB>50</SUB>값이 17.1 ppm으로 물 추출물의 198.4 ppm보다 약 11배 높은 것을 확인하였다. 미백제로의 효능을 알아보고자 실행한 tyrosinase 활성 저해 및 세포내 멜라닌 생합성 억제에 관한 결과 더위지기의 에탄올 추출물에서 tyrosinase 활성억제 농도(IC<SUB>50</SUB>)은 481.8 ppm, 멜라노사이트에 50 ppm 농도로 처리하였을 때 멜라닌 생성억제 효과가 36.8%로 높은 효과를 가지는 것을 확인하였다. 이상의 결과에 따르면 더위지기의 에탄올 추출물의 경우 항산화제 및 미백제로서 큰 가능성을 가지는 것으로 나타났다. The purpose of this study was to investigate the antioxidant and skin whitening effects of Artemisia iwayomogi extract. Artemisia iwayomogi was extracted with 100% ethanol and water. The antioxidative and skin whitening effects of these extracts were determined with in vitro assays by using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method assessing the inhibitory effects on tyrosinase activity and melanogenesis in B16 melanoma cells. Radical scavenging activity of the extracts was tested by DPPH assay which showed a high DPPH radical scavenging activity (SC<SUB>50</SUB>; 17.1 ppm in EtOH, 198.4 ppm in water). In term of tyrosinase inhibitory activity, Artemisia iwayomogi ethanol extract showed high inhibition activity (IC<SUB>50</SUB>: 481.8 ppm). In B16 mouse melanoma cells, the ethanol extract significantly inhibited melanin synthesis by 36.8% at a concentration of 50 ppm. These results suggest that Artemisia iwayomogi ethanol extract has significant antioxidant activity and whitening activity.

        고성과작업시스템의 ‘고성과’는 무엇에 의해 결정되는가?

        이 연구는 고성과작업시스템이 기업의 재무성과와 이직률에 미치는 영향을 경험적으로 실증하고, 이를 바탕으로 고성과작업장의 효과성을 결정하는 핵심 관행이 무엇인가를 밝히는 데 주된 초점이 있다. 그간 우리나라의 고성과작업장에 대한 연구는 주로 개별적 관행이 조직의 성과에 어느 정도 영향을 미치는가에 중점을 두어 진행됐다. 이 연구는 구성주의적 관점에서 하나의 묶음(Bundle)으로서의 고성과작업시스템의 효과를 분석하는 데 보다 초점을 두고 있으며, 이를 위해 투입-산출모형에 기초해 유입단계의 시스템과 전환단계의 시스템 효과를 구분하여 고찰하고 있다. ‘인적자본 기업패널(HCCP)’ 자료(1차조사)와 ‘KIS 기업데이터’를 활용했으며, 재무성과에 미치는 영향분석은 콥-더글러스 생산함수에 기초한 확장모형을 적용했다. 고성과 작업시스템이 재무성과와 이직률에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과, 고성과작업 시스템은 기업의 매출액을 증가시키는 데 유의한 효과가 있음이 검증됐다. 또한 고성과작업시스템을 구성하는 다양한 인적자원관리 관행(HR Practices)중 유입단계에서의 선별적 채용(Selective Selection)은 재무성과를 향상시키고 근로자의 이직을 감소시키는 데 영향력이 가장 큰 것으로 분석됐다. 특히, 선별적 채용은 직업훈련투자, 성과주의 보상체계, 참여 등 선진적 인적자원관리 관행의 생산성 효과를 증가시키는 시너지 효과를 갖는 핵심 관행으로 기능하고 있는 것으로 분석됐다. 고성과작업시스템은 테일러주의와 구별되는 다양한 선진적 관행으로 구성되는 만큼 이를 구축하는 데 있어 많은 비용이 소요된다. 따라서 고성과작업시스템이 재무성과를 높이고 이직률을 낮추는데 효과적으로 기능하기 위해서는 유입단계에서의 선별적 채용에 보다 적극적인 투자가 필요하다. This study examines the impacts of the high performance work systems (HPWS) on the financial performance and turnover among employees and aims to identify a crucial practice to enhance the effectiveness of HPWS. Using ‘Human Capital Corporate Panel’ and ‘KIS Business Data,’ this study has found that the HPWS significantly increases the sales and decreases the turnover among employees on the other hand. In addition, the selective selection of HR practices plays a critical role in lowering the rates of the turnover in organizations. More importantly, the results highlight that the selective selection enhances the productivity in adopting the advanced HR practices such as the investment in training, employee participation, and outcome-oriented incentive system. HWPS consists of various types of advanced HR practices and thus causes organizations high expenses, compared to Taylorism. Thus HWPS calls for more active investment in selective selection in order to effectively improve financial outcome and decrease turnover among employees.
