In the field of oxide heterostructure engineering, there have been extensive efforts to couple the various functionalities of each material. The Berry curvature-driven magnetotransport of SrRuO3 ultrathin films is currently receiving a great deal of attention because it is extremely sensitive to extensive physical parameters. Although this is beneficial in terms of heterostructure engineering, it renders transport behavior vulnerable to nanoscale inhomogeneity, resulting in artifacts called “hump anomalies”. Here, we develop a method to tune the magnetotransport properties of SrRuO3 ultrathin films capped by LaAlO3 layers. We systematically controlled the kinetic process by varying the pressure during LaAlO3 layer deposition and investigated the effects on nanoscale inhomogeneity in SrRuO3 films. We found that the high-kinetic energy of the capping layer adatoms induces stoichiometric modification and nano-scale lattice deformation of the underlying SrRuO3 layer. The control of kinetics provides us a way to modulate magnetization and the associated magnetotransport of the SrRuO3 layer.

In this paper, the performance evaluation results of the timing synchronization schemes are presented for aeronautical mobile airport communication systems (AeroMACS). AeroMACS, which is based on IEEE 802.16e mobile WiMAX standard, uses the aeronautical frequency band of 5GHz with the bandwidth of 5MHz. The simulation model of AeroMACS is constructed and the evaluation for the timing synchronization performance is performed with the various channel models such as apron (APR), runway (RWY), taxiway (TWY), and park (PRK).

Purpose: The objective of this study was to propose a method for developing a clinical phantom to reproduce various diseases that are clinically prevalent in the field of dentistry. This could facilitate diverse clinical research without unnecessarily exposing patients to radiation. Materials and Methods: This study utilized a single dry skull, which was visually and radiographically examined to evaluate its condition. Existing lesions on the dry skull were preserved, and other relevant lesions were artificially created as necessary. These lesions were then documented using intraoral radiography and cone-beam computed tomography. Once all pre-existing and reproduced lesions were confirmed by the consensus of 2 oral and maxillofacial radiologists, the skull was embedded in a soft tissue substitute. To validate the process, cone-beam computed tomography scans and panoramic radiographs were obtained of the fabricated phantom. All acquired images were subsequently evaluated. Results: Most lesions could be identified on panoramic radiographs, although some sialoliths and cracked teeth were confirmed only through cone-beam computed tomographic images. A small gap was observed between the epoxy resin and the bone structures. However, 2 oral and maxillofacial radiologists agreed that this space did not meaningfully impact the interpretation process. Conclusion: The newly developed phantom has potential for use as a standardized phantom within the dental field. It may be utilized for a variety of imaging studies, not only for optimization purposes, but also for addressing other experimental issues related to both 2- and 3-dimensional diagnostic radiography.

In this study, density change of fish and zooplankton living around artificial reef is surveyed using hydro-acoustic technique. The survey was carried out around artificial reef at marine ranching area in Ando, Yoesu from 5 P.M, October 29th, 2013 to 9 A.M, the next day. Acoustic survey was conducted using a 200 ㎑ dual beam transducer(DT5000, Biosonics). In addition, marine environment of water temperature, salinity and air illumination were observed every two hour by CTD (Mini CTD, Valeport) and air illuminometer(TES-1335). The surface water temperature was 19.7~20.2℃ while the bottom water temperature was 19.8~20.6℃ showing no significant differences according to different time periods. The surface salinity were 32.6~32.8 psu while the bottom salinity were 32.6~33.2 psu showing no significance differences according to different time periods. The air illumination decreased rapidly after the sunset and increased rapidly after the sunrise. The fish density recorded the highest at the sunset while the zooplankton density tended to increase after the sunset and decrease after the sunrise.

Silicone gel has been used for mammary implants contained in a silicone elastomer envelope. Following rupture of a silicone prosthesis, silicone gel can migrate along the soft tissue to the upper extremity or distant sites, probably resulting in symptoms of nerve dysfunction. The purpose of this ecperiment was to study the effects of silicone gel on the peripheral nerve and intraperitoneal organs. Silicone gel was placed extraneurally (n=16) adjacent to and injected directly in the left sciatic nerve (n=16) and in the peritoneal cavity (n=32) of male Sprague-Dawley rats over a 22-week period. For comparison, saline was injected into the contralateral site. For the study of functional changes in the nerve, sciatic function index(SFI) was calculated from gait analysis. Extraneural silicone gel elicited an intense inflammatory response initially by predominantly histiocytes with a few eosinophils, lymphocytes, and foreign-body giant cells. The cellular response peaked at 6 weeks, and then the thickness of the cellular infiltration surrounding the gel decreased gradually followed by collagen deposition after 10 weeks. The silicone gel had migrated and broken into smaller droplets with time. Each droplet appeared to initiate the inflam mation-fibrosis cycle anew. Perineural fibrosis was marked by 14 weeks and the thickness of epineurium was tripled at 22 weeks. No silicone gel penetrated the epineurium and there was no demyelination in the sciatic nerve. Intraneurally injected silicone gel also caused a delayed inflammatory response around the silicone gel which was similar to that of the extraneural group, but there was no migration and breakup into smaller droplets. The nerve fibers were slightly split but had sparsely demyelinized. The intraperitoneally injected silicone gel caused a nonspecific inflammation at the omentum, peritoneum, and liver. But, the silicone gel remained in the peritoneum and omentum with time, and no gel was found in the liver. The SFI's at 18 weeks were-5.90(extraneural group) and -8.18 (intraneural group), and - 6.30 (right leg for control), which were within normal limits (-1.9± 6.3), and the indices implied no functional abnormality. This experimental study showed that silicone which was injected extraneurally and intraneurally and in the peritoneal cavity caused little inflammatory reaction and fibrosis an presented no toxic reaction. The silicone gel left in the peritoneal cavity and omentum were not systemically absorpted, but caused no histologic abnormalities during experimental period. In conclusion, the free silicone gel would cause minor problems, such as mild compressive symtom. It is recommended the free silicone gel should be removed as early as possible.
