This paper is a report on the foreseen benefits and challenges on mathematics teacher professional development as the teachers in a small private school in Antipolo City, Philippines were sensitized to the notion of Lesson Study. Utilizing the Anthropological Theory on Didactics as an analytical tool, the teacher’s utterances regarding their lived and imagined experiences during a two-week training on Lesson Study were analysed. Three main issues emerged: 1) The importance of having concrete images of non-traditional mathematics teaching; 2) The affordances brought about by having supportive leadership; and 3) Collaboration as an empowering factor for teachers.
Enabling an Automation Architecture of CPPs based on UML combined with IEC-61499
Esteban X. Castellanos,Carlos A. Garcia,Cesar Rosero,Carlos Sanchez,Marcelo V Garcia 제어로봇시스템학회 2017 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2017 No.10
Today"s industry needs to improve the day-to-day control and industrial communications of its processes, which brings it closer to the Industry 4.0 paradigm. To achieve this goal, the IEC-61499 standard is considered as a first step towards the development of agile and intelligent manufacturing systems where distribution, interoperability and re-configuration are the fundamental requirements. However, this standard has many problems as it does not have software tools that are required for an effective design process for distributed control systems. The work presented below details the use of UML diagrams for the implementation of the IEC-61499 standard in low-cost devices that use embedded operating systems for the distributed control of a FESTO MPS 200 system. It is verified that using this type of Diagrams you can create distributed systems in a simple and easy way.

Teacher stress factors and performance in high schools in Ecuador
Esteban Vázquez-Cano,Ana Isabel Holgueras-González 한국교육개발원 2019 KEDI Journal of Educational Policy Vol.16 No.2
The government of Ecuador has invested heavily in education in recent years, and this has affected the socio-educational context and professional role of teachers in that country. This study aims to determine the main factors that can cause stress among teaching professionals in Ecuador, by means of a quantitative methodology, and factor and regression analyses. The results show that the main stress factors affecting teachers relate to poor working conditions (20.3%), a negative professional environment (13.7%), excessive workload (12.5%), assaults and lack of appreciation (9.4%), and performance assessment (3.9%). Thus, the determination of the main stress factors in a specific socio-educational context contributes to the international understanding of the socio-professional profile of the teacher and could favour the measures to minimize teachers’ stress.

Background: A new, extended long-acting tilmicosin (TLAe) preparation was tested against intramammary ceftiofur (CEF) using a non-inferiority trial model during dry-cow therapy (DCT) in a farm with high bovine population density and deficient hygiene application. Objectives: To evaluate the possibility that TLAe administered parenterally can achieve non-inferiority status compared to CEF administered intramammary for DCT. Methods: Cows were randomly assigned to TLAe (20 mg/kg subcutaneous; n = 53) or CEF (CEF-HCl, 125 mg/quarter; n = 38 cows) treatment groups. California mastitis testing, colony-forming unit assessment (CFU/mL), and number of cases positive for Staphylococcus aureus were quantified before DCT and 7 d after calving. A complete cure was defined as no bacteria isolated; partial cure when CFU/mL ranged from 150 to 700, and cure-failure when CFU/mL was above 700. Results: TLAe and CEF had overall cure rates of 57% and 53% (p > 0.05) and S. aureus cure rates of 77.7% and 25%, respectively (p < 0.05). The pathogens detected at DCT and 7 days after calving were S. aureus (62.71% and 35.55%), Staphylococcus spp. (22.03% and 35.55%), Streptococcus uberis (10.16% and 13.33%), and Escherichia coli (5.08% and 15.55%). Non-inferiority and binary logistic regression analyses revealed a lack of difference in overall efficacies of TLAe and CEF. Apart from S. aureus, S. uberis was the predominant pathogen found in both groups. Conclusions: This study is the first successful report of parenteral DCT showing comparable efficacy as CEF, the gold-standard. The extended long-term pharmacokinetic activity of TLAe explains these results.

The present work studies the influence of high-energy milling (HEM) and sintering cycle of Ti and Al powders on the obtainment of TiAl. This study shows that HEM modifies the diffusion processes during the sintering stage. The samples were obtained by cold uniaxial and isostatic pressing, pre-sintered at different temperatures, and heated up to the sintering temperature. This study also shows the effect of powder additions processed by HEM on the sintering behavior of elemental Ti and Al powders.
Adult pancreatoblastoma: A rare malignant tumor of the pancreas
German Esteban Sanchez Morales,Hillary Lizarraga Payan,Roberto Andre Moguel Valladare,Ismael Dominguez Rosado,Carlos Chan 한국간담췌외과학회 2021 Annals of hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgery Vol.25 No.3
Pancreatoblastoma (PB) is a rare malignant tumor in adults. It has an overall incidence of 0.004 per 100,000 inhabitants. Its diagnosis with fine-needle aspiration (FNA) is difficult due to multiple differentiation lines present on PB that overlap with other tumors. A 76-year-old male patient presented with jaundice, weight loss of 10 kg in 6 months, and appetite loss. Abdominal computed tomography scan showed a tumor in the pancreas head. Transendoscopic ultrasound with FNA biopsy revealed a malignant epithelial neoplasia compatible with PB with immunohistochemistry CK19 (+), P63(+), synaptophysin (–), and Ki67 50%. The patient underwent surgical resection and adjuvant chemotherapy. Currently, the patient is in follow-up with the latest imaging showing no evidence of disease at 32 months after his initial diagnosis. PB is an uncommon malignant neoplasia with an aggressive behavior. Its diagnostic and therapeutic protocols are unclear. Its preoperative diagnosis may be difficult since its imaging features and serological markers are non-specific. However, FNA may be useful in some situations. Surgical resection is currently the recommended treatment that is associated with the best long-term survival.

Product certification has been important especially in developing countries to protect their consumers by providing quality and safe products and protecting the country from an import surge of products that may cause serious injury to local producers. This research analyzes the effects of product certification to electrical and electronics products and importers of group E (HS codes 84 and 85), using three trading across borders importation variables of the Ease of Doing Business Index of World Bank. About 44,081 data entries of the import commodity clearance (ICC) applications of 497 group E firms applying for ICC in the Philippines have been evaluated and analyzed using mixed approach. The study showed that time and cost during importation of electrical and electronics products have an effect on importations and number of firms or importers. However, the number of documents for import compliance does not show a significant correlation to the importations nor firms. This shows that a flexible technical regulation for importers could be beneficial because of the varied effects to products being imported and the importers due to the dynamic characteristics of different industries, complexity of the certification system.
The Legal Structure Governing Philanthropy in the Philippines
Enrico Esteban B. Sabio,제갈돈 서울대학교행정대학원 2010 Journal of Policy Studies Vol.25 No.1
Nongovernment organizations (NGOs) in the Philippines can be classified into several categories, depending on their goals. Some support government programs; others advocate for alternatives to government programs. A third group—philanthropic organizations—provide services that the government cannot provide sufficiently or at all. This study focuses on organizations in the third group and the impact of government interventions on them. The legal structure governing NGOs is described, and its effect on philanthropic organizations is analyzed. Factors that compelled the government to adopt laws and regulations affecting philanthropic organizations are discussed. Past and present trends in corporate philanthropy are briefly discussed. Findings indicate that existing laws and regulations have resulted in a social and administrative environment that encourages the private sector to be active in social welfare work. Incentives range from tax breaks to autonomy in governance and a significant role in public policy formulation.
