Poisson’s Ratio Measurement Using a Pair of PVDF Ultrasonic Transducer

        Enrique Vargas,Sergio Toral,Vicente Gonzalez 한국비파괴검사학회 2009 한국비파괴검사학회지 Vol.29 No.6

This work presents a simple technique to determine the Poisson’s ratio of homogeneous solid material using a pair of low cost PVDF ultrasonic transducers. It is based on transducer’s property of generating longitudinal and transversal waves depending on the excitation frequency. Mechanical tests were conducted to validate the proposed method, resulting in a good agreement between ultrasonic and mechanical techniques.

An Estimate of the Yield Displacement of Coupled Walls for Seismic Design

Enrique Hernandez-Montes,Mark Aschheim 한국콘크리트학회 2017 International Journal of Concrete Structures and M Vol.11 No.2

A formula to estimate the yield displacement observed in the pushover analysis of coupled wall lateral force-resisting systems is presented. The estimate is based on the results of an analytical study of coupled walls ranging from 8 to 20 stories in height, with varied amounts of reinforcement in the reinforced concrete coupling beams and walls, subjected to first-mode pushover analysis. An example illustrates the application of these estimates to the performance-based seismic design of coupled walls.

Two-Layer Hand-Sewn Esophagojejunostomy in Totally Laparoscopic Total Gastrectomy for Gastric Cancer

        Enrique Norero,Rodrigo Muñoz,Marco Ceroni,Manuel Manzor,Fernando Crovari,Mauricio Gabrielli 대한위암학회 2017 Journal of gastric cancer Vol.17 No.3

Purpose: Different esophagojejunostomy (EJ) reconstruction methods are used after totally laparoscopic total gastrectomy (TLTG), and none is considered a standard technique. This report describes a 2-layer hand-sewn EJ technique during TLTG; we also evaluated postoperative morbidity associated with this technique. Materials and Methods: This retrospective cohort study included all consecutive patients who underwent TLTG for gastric cancer (GC) from 2012 to 2016 at 2 affiliated teaching hospitals. All participating surgeons performed standardized intracorporeal 2-layer hand-sewn EJ. Results: We included 51 patients who underwent TLTG for GC and standardized EJ anastomosis. Twenty-seven (53%) were male, and the median age was 60 (36–87) years. The average operative time was 337±71 minutes and intraoperative bleeding was 160±107 mL. There were no open conversions related to EJ. Postoperative morbidity was observed in 9 (17.0%) patients. There was no postoperative mortality. EJ leakage was observed in 2 patients (3.8%) and 1 patient (1.9%) developed EJ stenosis. Patients with leakage were managed non-operatively and the patient with stenosis required endoscopic dilation. The median length of hospital stay was 8 (6–29) days. Conclusions: Two-layer hand-sewn EJ during TLTG for GC is a feasible and safe technique. This method avoids a laparotomy for reconstruction and the disadvantages associated with laparoscopic introduction of mechanical staplers for EJ, and provides an alternative for alimentary tract reconstruction after TLTG.

Chinese Investment in Mexico: The Contemporary Context and Challenges

        ( Enrique Dussel Peters ) 경남대학교 극동문제연구소 2016 ASIAN PERSPECTIVE Vol.40 No.4

Public, private, and academic institutions, in Mexico and bilaterally with China, ordinarily can facilitate long-range planning, rectify information gaps, and correct misunderstandings. But a dearth of such institutions has hindered the growth of Chinese outward foreign direct investment (COFDI) in Mexico and spurred negative reactions against it, further dampening Chinese investments. Structural trade imbalances, coupled with Mexican fears about the Chinese economic challenge, poison the political atmosphere in Mexico and between Mexico and China, also impeding COFDI. Besides exploring these problems, I provide background information on the bilateral political relationship, the features of COFDI generally and details of several Chinese investment projects in Mexico, and the two countries` trade links. I offer some proposals designed to create a better foundation for the growth of COFDI in Mexico, a priority of both countries.

Synthesis of Al₂O₃/Ti₃Al composites by in-situ displacement reactions

Enrique Rocha-Rangel 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2008 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.9 No.1

The employment of aluminothermic reactions of displacement as an alternative for the production of Al₂O₃/Ti₃Al composite materials has been investigated. Compacted samples from an intensely ground mixture of powders of TiO₂+Al₂O₃ +Al were sintered at 1500ºC during 1 hour by hot pressing in an argon atmosphere. The TiO₂ is used as predecessor to generate in-situ Al₂O₃ via its reduction by means of metallic Al. Al reacts also in a simultaneous way with the reduced titanium to form an intermetallic alloy of the type TixAly. The Al₂O₃ employed in the precursor materials is used as a way for the dissipation of the heat build-up during the aluminothermic reduction of the TiO₂. The results of the characterizations indicate that Al₂O₃- based composite materials were obtained with reinforcement particles of TixAly. The microstructure of these materials is dense, fine and homogeneous. The preliminary characterization of the microstructure and its composition features subsequent to the cycle of in-situ processing are presented here. • WHEN ONLINE REVIEWS CONFLICT: THE EFFECT OF INFORMATION CUES AND EWOM ADOPTION ON BEHAVIOURAL INTENTIONS

        Enrique Bigné,Carla Ruiz,Rafael Currás,José Martí 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2016 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2016 No.7

Given the increasing competition in the hospitality industry, a key question is to investigate how consumer-generated reviews affect the consumption decision of tourism services. Online reviews are regarded as one form of electronic word of mouth communication (Banerjee & Chua, 2016). While researchers have demonstrated the benefits of the presence of customer reviews on company sales, an issue scarcely investigated is how to assess the impact of informational cues on eWOM adoption for consumer decision-making and how individuals process and integrate conflicting opinions from other consumers. Drawing on dual process theories, this paper analyzes: (1) the impact of systematic information cues (informativeness, credibility and helpfulness of reviews) on eWOM adoption; (2) the moderating effect of conflicting reviews on the impact of eWOM adoption on behavioural intentions. The heuristic-systematic model HSM (Chaiken, 1980) is a widely recognized communication model that attempts to explain how people receive and process persuasive messages. As Zhang et al. (2014) advocated, the HSM provides broader explanations of individuals’ information processing behaviour in the context of online communities than do other models, such as ELM (elaboration likelihood model). We build up and test an expanded HSM model anchored in dual process literature, which includes the influence informativeness, credibility and helpfulness of mixed valence online reviews (systematic information cues) have on eWOM adoption which, in turn, influences behavioural intentions. In order to test the hypotheses of the model an experimental subjects-design was carried out using valence order: positive-negative vs. negative-positive as a condition. Data was collected in January 2016 using a sample of 908 Tripadvisor heavy-users. 461 interviewees answered in the POS-NEG condition and 447 in NEG-POS condition. Participants were instructed to imagine a situation where they were going out for dinner to an Italian restaurant with friends and they were told to read a total of 10 reviews about the restaurant in the same order they were displayed and answer the questions that followed. We used an experimental design. All variables were measured with seven point likert scales. Data analysis shows informativeness activates both review credibility and review helpfulness, which in turn influence eWOM adoption. When the sequence of Tripadvisor reviews begins with positive commentaries, eWOM is a significant driver of intention to visit the restaurant, but when the user reads negative commentaries followed by positive ones, the effect becomes non-significant. This study is novel because it examines the factors that drive consumers to adopt consumer generated content (eWOM) in tourism services and to make consumption decisions. This study demonstrates how systematic information cues and sequence of reviews influence on eWOM adoption and behavioural intentions. Firstly, consumer intentions to visit a restaurant are determined by the consumer's eWOM adoption, which, in turn, is determined by three information cues: informativeness, perceived credibility and helpfulness of the online reviews. Understanding the specific effects of different information cues on eWOM adoption seems to be particularly important given the tremendous competition in the tourism sector. Secondly, this study shows conflicting reviews affect the user in a complex way. When consumer reviews conflict, if the consumer reads positive reviews before the negative ones, eWOM adoption has a stronger influence on behavioural intentions. It seems that users attribute an opportunistic view to the negative comments mainly attributed to the lack of their informativeness, credibility and helpfulness. User behavioural intention to visit a restaurant is directed by systematic and heuristic information cues. Therefore, users examine content of online reviews carefully and they also are influenced by the sequence of comments.

        Immunologic Evaluation of Drug Allergy

        Enrique Gómez,Maria Jose Torres,Cristobalina Mayorga,Miguel Blanca 대한천식알레르기학회 2012 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.4 No.5

Hypersensitivity drug reactions (HDR) consist of an individual abnormal response with the involvement of the immunological system. In addition to specific immunological mechanisms where specific antibodies or sensitised T cells participate, release of inflammatory mediators by non-specific immunological recognition may also occur. Within this category are one of the most common groups of drugs, the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. In addition to chemical drugs new emerging ones with an increasing protagonism are biological agents like humanised antibodies and others. For IgE dependent reactions both in vivo and in vitro tests can be used for the immunological evaluation. Sensitivity of these is not optimal and very often a drug provocation test must be considered for knowing the mechanism involved and/or establishing the diagnosis. For non-immediate reactions also both in vivo and in vitro tests can be used. Sensitivity for in vivo tests is generally low and in vitro tests may be needed for the immunological evaluation. Immunohistochemical studies of the affected tissue enable a more precise classification of non-immediate reactions. The monitorization of the acute response of the reactions has given clues for understanding these reactions and has promising results for the future of the immunological evaluation of HDR. La Verdad como Justicia

Enrique Andriotti Romanin 한국라틴아메리카학회 2011 라틴아메리카연구 Vol.24 No.4

Public events referred to as “truth hearings” in Argentina to took place in 1998. As a response to demands aired by relatives of victims of state terrorism, survivors and human rights organizations, these claimants sought to know the truth of the fate of thousands who disappeared during Argentina’s last military dictatorship (1976-1983). While the hearings occassioned major conflicts between the state, the military and the human rights organizations, and the duration of some hearings lasted for more than ten years, little research has been carried out on the hearings. In this paper we analyze one of the Trials for the Truth, held in the city of Mar del Plata, in order to understand the historical process of social and political struggles developed by social actors involved in the hearings. Our particular focus is to analyze the production of emergency conditions, the fabric of social policies and the cultural relations in which conflicts were embedded. Also, we devote analysis to the impact of strategic political changes at the level of national and international politics, and on the decisions made by entrepreneurial actors of this trial.

Chymotrypsin isolation from jumbo squid (Dosidicus gigas) hepatopancreas: Partial characterization and effect on muscle collagen

        Enrique Marquez-Rios,Octavio Cota-Arriola,Ana Gloria Villalba-Villalba,Josafat Marina Ezquerra-Brauer,Victor Manuel Ocaño-Higuera,Betzabe Ebenhezer Lopez-Corona,Wilfrido Torres-Arreola 한국식품과학회 2016 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.25 No.4

Chymotrypsin was purified from jumbo squid hepatopancreas (HP) with 2.4-fold and yield1.9%, and characterized with a molecular weight of 31 kDa, as estimated by sodium dodecyl sulfatepolyacrylamidegel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). Chymotrypsin effect over collagen extracted from themantle, fins and arms of the jumbo squid was evaluated. The enzyme exhibited the maximum activityat pH 7 and 65oC using Suc-Ala-Ala-Pro-Phe-p-nitroanilide (SAAPNA) as a substrate and it was identifiedusing the specific inhibitors N-tosyl-L-phenylalaninechloromethyl ketone (TPCK) and phenyl methylsulfonyl fluoride (PMSF), showing residual activities of 6% and 0%, respectively. Furthermore, highactivity was observed in the pH range of 4.0 to 8.0. Purified enzyme showed a moderate in vitro activityusing muscle collagen as a substrate. Although further research is needed, the results suggest that theenzyme has a potential application where acidic or slightly alkaline conditions are needed.
