Quantum codes with improved minimum distance

        Emre Kolotouglu,Mustafa Sari 대한수학회 2019 대한수학회보 Vol.56 No.3

The methods for constructing quantum codes is not always sufficient by itself. Also, the constructed quantum codes as in the classical coding theory have to enjoy a quality of its parameters that play a very important role in recovering data efficiently. In a very recent study quantum construction and examples of quantum codes over a finite field of order $q$ are presented by La Garcia in \cite{Guardia}. Being inspired by La Garcia's the paper, here we extend the results over a finite field with $q^2$ elements by studying necessary and sufficient conditions for constructions quantum codes over this field. We determine a criteria for the existence of $q^2$-cyclotomic cosets containing at least three elements and present a construction method for quantum maximum-distance separable (MDS) codes. Moreover, we derive a way to construct quantum codes and show that this construction method leads to quantum codes with better parameters than the ones in \cite{Guardia}.

Generalized Parallel Transport and Coordinate Transformations in f(R) Gravity

Emre Dil 한국물리학회 2016 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.69 No.12

In this paper, we study the generalized parallel transport of vectors and generalized coordinate transformations between generalized reference frames described in f(R) gravity. After constructing the generalized parallel transport relations and the generalized transformation laws in f(R) gravity, we discuss the implications of these laws and present the differences between f(R) gravity and Einstein’s general relativity. For a constant Ricci scalar case with de Sitter-like behavior for a de Sitter space-time, we find that the parallel transport is invariant under the conformal transformation from general relativity to f(R) gravity. However, for a non-de Sitter space-time, parallel transport differs by an extra field term.

Structure of Apery-like series and monotonicity properties for binomial sums

        Emre Alkan 대한수학회 2017 대한수학회보 Vol.54 No.1

A family of Ap\'{e}ry-like series involving reciprocals of central binomial coefficients is studied and it is shown that they represent transcendental numbers. The structure of such series is further examined in terms of finite combinations of logarithms and arctangents with arguments and coefficients belonging to a suitable algebraic extension of rationals. Monotonicity of certain quotients of weighted binomial sums which arise in the study of competitive cheap talk models is established with the help of a continuous extension of the discrete model at hand. The monotonic behavior of such quotients turns out to have important applications in game theory.

The effect of air conditioning positions, air conditioning fluid speed, and temperature on thermal comfort in the truck cabin

Emre Turgut,Uğurcan Yardımcı 대한기계학회 2022 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.36 No.6

The effects of air conditioning parameters in the truck cabin on thermal comfort were numerically investigated using ANSYS. Air conditioner positions, fluid velocities coming out of air conditioner vents, and outlet temperatures of the fluid were determined. In the analysis, three different air conditioning positions, three different temperatures, and six different speeds were used. Predicted mean vote (PMV) and predicted percentage of dissatisfied (PPD) values were calculated according to the results obtained. The best average PMV was found in position 2 with -0.055781108, whereas the worst average PMV was found in position 3 with −1.112957448. The best average PPD value was found in position 2 with 5.12, and the worst average PPD value was found in position 3 with 31.63. In addition to PMV graphics, temperature and velocity distributions in the truck cabin are given with contour graphics. All the data obtained were evaluated together to determine the best combination.

Prognostic impact of p16 and p53 gene expressions in stage 1a epithelial ovarian cancer

( Emre Gunakan ),( Yusuf Aytac Tohma ),( Latife Atasoy Karakaş ),( Huseyin Akıllı ),( Asuman Nihan Haberal ),( Ali Ayhan ) 대한산부인과학회 2020 Obstetrics & Gynecology Science Vol.63 No.4

Objective Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is rarely detected at stage 1a. Most of the patients have a good prognosis and there are limited factors that affect their survival. In the present study, we evaluated the p16 and p53 gene expressions of stage 1a EOC patients. Prognostic effects of these gene expressions, as well as those of other factors on short term survival were analyzed. Methods Our study included 29 patients. The specimens of the ovary with cancer were stained for p16 and p53. Gene expressions and other prognostic factors were evaluated. Results The median age of the patients was 51 years (27-84). The mean numbers of dissected pelvic and paraaortic lymph nodes were 27 and 12, respectively. The mean follow-up time was 33.7±18.9 months. During this period, recurrence occurred in two patients. One of the patients had grade 2 mucinous carcinoma and died of the disease at month 12 after the recurrence occurred at month 7. The second patient had clear cell carcinoma and recurrence occurred at month 34. p16 and p53 gene expressions or other factors were not associated with overall survival (OS) or diseasefree survival in the short term. The lower p16 positivity rate in the non-clear cell group was found to be statistically significant (P=0.003). Both p53 and p16 positivity rates were higher in the high-grade carcinoma. Conclusion The levels of none of the common prognostic factors, including those of p16 and p53 gene expression, were associated with the progression-free survival or OS of stage 1a in the short term. Appropriate surgical staging and non-omission of subclinical metastases seem to be of central importance.

Gravitational Entropy of a Schwarzschild-Type Black Hole

Emre Dil 한국물리학회 2016 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.69 No.1

In this study, Clifton, Ellis and Tavakol’s gravitational entropy proposal is used to determine the entropy of free gravitational fields due to a spherical symmetric Schwarzschild-type black hole which is considered in the framework of f(R) gravity. In order to obtain the gravitational entropy, we calculate the Weyl tensor of the black hole to determine the Bel-Robinson tensor, giving the super energy density. By using the super energy density, we obtain the gravitational energy density and the gravitational temperature to calculate the gravitational entropy of the f(R) gravity black hole. This proposal can reproduce the Bekenstein-Hawking value in general relativity limit, but cannot reproduce it in the f(R) gravity case.

Xanthomatous Hypophysitis Secondary to a Ruptured Rathke’s Cleft Cyst: A Case Report

Emre Gezer 대한뇌종양학회 2022 Brain Tumor Research and Treatment Vol.10 No.1

Hypophysitis (HP) is a rare disease which develops secondary to chronic or acute inflammation of the pituitary gland and may cause symptoms related to pituitary dysfunction and mass compression. Lym- phocytic HP is the most common subtype of primary HP, while xanthomatous HP (XHP) is considered the rarest form, with 35 reported cases, to date. A 35-year-old woman was initially admitted to a Gy- necology clinic with a 2-year history of amenorrhea and headache. She was started on cabergoline 0.5 mg twice a week for macroprolactinoma. Due to persistent amenorrhea with low gonadotropins, she was referred to our Endocrinology clinic. Her pituitary function profile revealed panhypopituitarism and a 13×11×12 mm sized sellar mass with diffuse enhancement which sustained toward the infundibulum and dura was observed on the gadolinium-enhanced pituitary MRI. The patient underwent an endo- scopic endonasal transsphenoidal approach for tumor resection and thick yellowish fluid draining from the lesion was observed. The histopathological diagnosis was reported as a rupture of an Rathke’s cleft cyst and an XHP. The surgery did not improve the symptoms/pituitary functions, however, head- ache recovered immediately after the first dose of high dose methylprednisolone treatment. The inflam- matory process in a xanthomatous lesion may actually be a secondary response to mucous fluid con- tent release from a ruptured cyst, thus recommended to classify XHP as secondary hypophysitis. Since the differentiation of XHP from other pituitary tumors may be challenging preoperatively, surgery is the major diagnostic tool and also, the most recommended therapeutic option.

Factors associated with surgical morbidity of primary debulking in epithelial ovarian cancer

( Emre Gunakan ),( Yusuf Aytac Tohma ),( Mehmet Tunc ),( Huseyin Akıllı ),( Hanifi Şahin ),( Ali Ayhan ) 대한산부인과학회 2020 Obstetrics & Gynecology Science Vol.63 No.1

Objective Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) requires an aggressive surgical approach. The important part of literature on ovarian cancer surgery emphasize residual tumor and survival analyses. Morbidity issue keeps in background. Therefore, we aimed to report on morbidity of cytoreductive surgery for EOC in this study. Methods EOC patients who underwent primary debulking were evaluated. Intraoperative and postoperative complications that occurred within 30 days after the surgery and factors that affect morbidity were considered. Results The study involved 359 patients. Forty-six intraoperative complications occurred in 42 (11.6%) patients. Advanced stage and cancer antigen level of 125 were independently and significantly associated with operative complications (hazard ratio [HR], 1.66; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.01-2,73; P=0.044, and HR, 1.47; 95% CI, 1.05-2.06; P=0.025, respectively). The need for intensive care unit admission was significantly higher in patients with intraoperative complications (28.6% vs. 8.8%, P=0.001). Intraoperative and postoperative complication rates were significantly higher in extended surgery than in standard surgery (18.9%vs. 8.5%, P=0.005 and 38.7% vs. 10.9%, P<0.001, respectively). Intraoperative and postoperative transfusion need, hospital stay duration, and chemotherapy start day were also significantly higher in extended surgery than in standard surgery. Hundred postoperative complications occurred in 70 patients. Age, extended surgery, presence of ascites, and presence of operative complications were independently and significantly associated with postoperative complications. Conclusion Morbidity of extensive surgical approach should be kept in mind in ovarian cancer surgery aimed at leaving no residual tumor. Patient-based management with an appropriate preoperative evaluation may avoid morbidity of extended/extensive surgical approaches.

Potentiometric urea biosensor based on poly(glycidylmethacrylate)-grafted iron oxide nanoparticles

        Emre Çevik,Mehmet S¸ enel,Abdülhadi Baykal 한국물리학회 2013 Current Applied Physics Vol.13 No.1

Urease enzyme was covalently attached on the poly(glycidylmethacrylate) (PGMA)-grafted iron oxide nanoparticles on Au electrode for the fabrication of urea biosensor. The telomere of poly(- glycidylmethacrylate) (PGMA) with a trimethoxysilyl terminal group was synthesized by telomerization of glycidylmethacrylate. Iron oxide nanoparticles were coated with telomere of poly(- glycidylmethacrylate) in order to obtain good enzyme immobilization platform. The telomere and nanoparticles were characterized by using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The biosensor’s potentiometric response was measured as a function of urea concentration in phosphate buffer solution (10 mM, pH 7.5) and showed a linear range of 0.25e5.0 mM urea. The produced biosensor exhibited a good response time of w8 s and was stable for about two months. The basic features (optimum pH, optimum temperature, interference and storage stability) of the enzyme electrode were determined
