Enhancing the Image Transmission over Wireless Networks through a Novel Interleaver

        ( M. A. M. El-bendary ),( A. E. Abou-el-azm ),( N. A. El-fishawy ),( F. Shawki ),( M. El-tokhy ),( F. E. Abd El-samie ),( H. B. Kazemian ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2011 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.5 No.9

With increasing the using of wireless technologies in essential fields such as the medical application, this paper proposes different scenarios for the transmission of images over wireless networks. The paper uses the IEEE ZigBee 802.15.4 for applying the proposed schemes. It is a Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN). This paper presents a novel chaotic interleaving scheme against error bursts. Also, the paper studies the proposed interleaver with the convolutional code with different constraint lengths (K). A comparison study between the standard scheme and proposed schemes for image transmission over a correlated fading channel is presented. The simulation results show the superiority of the proposed chaotic interleaving scheme over the traditional schemes. Also, the chaotic interleaver packet-by-packet basis gives a high quality image with (K=3) and reduces the need for the complex encoder with K=7.

      • Construction Based Model for Assessing Maturity Level of Enterprises

Marzouk, Mohamed,Attia, Tarek,El-Bendary, Nasr Eldin Korea Institute of Construction Engineering and Ma 2012 Journal of construction engineering and project ma Vol.2 No.1

Maturity models allow organizations to assess and compare their own practices against best practices or those employed by competitors, with the intention to map out a structured path to improvement. This research explores the aspects of the Maturity Models that are relevant to distinguish them from one to another. The different Project Management maturity models for define maturity differently and measure different things to determine maturity. Because of this, organizations should give careful consideration to select appropriate maturity model. The main reason behind this research lies on the modification to the existing Organizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3) by adding four knowledge areas, dedicated to construction industry as best practices. These are Safety, Environment, Financial and Claim Management. This Model contains (Yes/No) questions; all of these questions must be answered before the user reviews the results that describe the overall maturity and areas of strength and weakness of an organization. The research presents the implementation of the proposed Model Construction Enterprises Maturity Model (CEM2). All the components of the developed Model have been implemented in Microsoft Access. CEM2 helps Construction Enterprises to assess their Maturity Level and know Areas of Weaknesses for future improvement. The easy to use Yes/No user interfaces help enterprises' employees to assess the maturity level of their enterprises. The Model maintains users' responses in its database; as such, many employees from different enterprise divisions can be involved during assessment phase in several sessions.

Substantial Functional Finishing and Transfer Printing of Polyester Fabric Using Zinc Oxide/Polyurethane Nanocomposite

        Samiha M. Abo El-Ola,Magda A. El-Bendary,Nasser H. Mohamed,Rehab M. Kotb 한국섬유공학회 2022 Fibers and polymers Vol.23 No.10

Functionalization of the textile surface plays a remarkable role in the synthetic fiber industry. This research isinterested in the one-step simultaneous functional finishing and transfer printing of alkaline-activated polyester fabric usingC.I. Disperse Red 60 and C.I. Disperse Blue 56. The optimum color depth was achieved using zinc oxide nanoparticle 0.5 %and nano polyurethane (50 g/l) in the finishing bath formulation, additionally, excellent ultraviolet protection (50+) category. Zinc oxide nanoparticles and zinc oxide/polyurethane nanocomposite finishing showed high antimicrobial efficiency. Theyshowed a microbial reduction of C. albicans (97 %), E. coli (93 and 96 %), and S. aureus (88 and 93 %), respectively. Thefinished polyester fabrics showed significant durability of protective properties for washing cycles after 25 washes. Theultraviolet protection maintained excellent category and enhanced ultraviolet protection factor values. The antimicrobialactivities after 25 washes achieved sustained microbial reduction percentage against the three tested microorganisms (C. albicans 92 and 87 %; E. coli 90 and 92 %; and S. aureus 87 and 81 %). The results showed the positive impact of zinc oxidenanoparticles and zinc oxide/polyurethane nanocomposite finishing on fastness to sublimation and light. At the same time, there is no change in the fastness of washing and perspiration. The effect of finishing formulations on the finished polyesterfabric samples' crucial mechanical properties was studied. These properties were fabric weight, thickness, tensile strength andelongation, and abrasion resistance. The obtained results showed that finishing polyester fabric samples with nanopolyurethane, zinc oxide nanoparticles, or zinc oxide/polyurethane nanocomposite did not alter the essential mechanicalproperties required for polyester fabric applications in textiles and apparel for different end uses. Additionally, the polyesterfabric surface was characterized using scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, improvingthe functional finishing.

The prognostic value of glucocorticoid receptors for adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia

        Ahmed M. L. Bedewy,Shereen M. EL-Maghraby,Noha S. Kandil,Waleed R. El-Bendary 대한혈액학회 2015 Blood Research Vol.50 No.4

BackgroundTherapeutic protocols used in adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) are widely varia-ble, and glucocorticoids (GCs) are essential components in ALL treatment. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the distribution of prominent glucocorticoid receptor (GR) gene polymorphic variants among adult ALL patients. We also investigated the association be-tween GR messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) isoform expressions and the response to chemotherapy.MethodsFifty-two newly diagnosed Philadelphia-negative adult ALL patients and 30 healthy control subjects were enrolled in this study. Genotyping was carried out using a polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis. GR mRNA isoform ex-pressions were assayed by quantitative real-time PCR.ResultsALL patients in this study had a median age of 34 years (range, 18‒75). GR expression was associated with complete remission (P=0.03), while GR mRNA expression was sig-nificantly higher in GC resistant patients (P=0.032) and in non-responders (P=0.019). However, there were no significant associations with GC resistance. The BclI polymorphic variant of the GR gene was the most frequent in adult ALL patients and was not associated with the GC response. Both higher GR expression and lower GR expression were asso-ciated with achievement of complete remission, while higher GR expression was asso-ciated with GC-resistance.ConclusionOur data suggest that the level of GR isoform expression may be useful in predicting GC response, achievement of complete remission, and better event-free survival in ALL patients. However, further evaluation with a larger cohort of patients is warranted.

Assessment of the relationship between serum soluble Klotho and carotid intimaemedia thickness and left ventricular dysfunction in hemodialysis patients

( Emad Abdallah ),( Osama Mosbah ),( Ghada Khalifa ),( Amna Metwaly ),( Omnia El-bendary ) 대한신장학회 2016 Kidney Research and Clinical Practice Vol.35 No.1

Background: The aim of our study was to assess the relationship between soluble Klotho (s-Klotho) and carotid intimaemedia thickness (CIMT) and left ventricular (LV) dysfunction in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study conducted on 88 patients with end-stage renal disease on regular HD. Serum levels of calcium, phosphorus, parathyroid hormone, and C-reactive protein were measured. The serum levels of s-Klotho and fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF-23) were measured using an Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit. Echocardiography and measurement of CIMT were also conducted. The studied patients were divided according to the median s- Klotho level into 2 groups: patients with low s-Klotho (Group I) and patients with high s-Klotho (Group II). Results: Mean value of s-Klotho was significantly low in HD patients compared to controls (P ¼ 0.001), and mean value of FGF-23 was significantly high in HD patients compared to controls (P ¼ 0.001). The mean values of parathyroid hormone, FGF-23, and phosphorus were significantly high in Group I compared to Group II, whereas the mean value of serum calcium was significantly low in Group I compared to Group II. The mean values of CIMT, LV mass (LVM), LVM index, and LV ejection fraction (LVEF) were high in Group I compared to Group II. Patients with low s- Klotho had significantly more coronary artery disease (CAD). In a regression analysis of s-Klotho with different markers of cardiovascular diseases, s-Klotho showed significant association with CIMT, LVEF, and CAD, but not with LVM and LVM index. Conclusion: The present study showed that patients with a low s-Klotho were more often associated with increased CIMT, LV dysfunction, and CAD, and it seems that there was independent association between s-Klotho and CIMT, LVEF, and CAD.
