        Does Azospirillum brasilense and biostimulant improve the initial growth of rice sown at greater depths?

        The sowing operation is crucial for the proper initial establishment of seedlings and their development. However, there is a lack of studies about the eff ects of sowing depth of rice, as well as technologies that aid to mitigate the prejudicial eff ects caused by depth. In this way, the present work aimed to evaluate the initial growth of rice plants inoculated with Azospirillum brasiliense and treated with biostimulant sowed at diff erent depths. Randomized complete block design with four replica�tions was used, in a 4 × 4 factorial scheme. The fi rst factor was composed of diff erent seed treatments (a, control—with�out treatment; b, inoculation with A. brasilense ; c, seed treatment with Stimulate® and d, inoculation with A. brasilense associated with seed treatment with Stimulate ® ). The second factor was composed of four sowing depths (1.0, 3.0, 5.0 and 7.0 cm). Treatment of rice seeds with A. brasilense and Stimulate® decreases the rate of emergence. The sowing at 7 cm depth decreases in 41.44% of the emergence, when compared to sowing at 1 cm. Inoculation with A. brasilense and sowing at increasing depths are prejudicial to the growth of rice crop.

        Stability of hybrid organosilica materials incorporating a biphenyl moiety

        Quezon City, PhilippinesThe stability of biphenyl-functionalized ethane-silica hybrid materials was investigated by a calcination process, a hydrothermal test and exposure to UV to determine the integrity of its composition, structure, and morphology. The organosilicas were prepared via surfactant-mediated polymerization of 4,4’-bis(triethoxysilyl)biphenyl organosilane monomer and crosslinked with 1,2-bis(triethoxysilyl)ethane and tetraethoxysilane. Infrared spectroscopic and gravimetric analyses showed that the material was thermally stable below 700 oC. Its hydrothermal stability could be accounted for by the strong covalent integration of the bifunctional organic bridging groups in the silica framework. No significant change was observed in the functional groups when the material was exposed to ultra-violet radiation. Post heat treatment of the materials did not significantly change the interplanar spacing of the (100) plane, but enhanced the spherical particle morphology.

        HEAVY VEHICLES BRAKE DRUMS – AN ACCURATE EVALUATION ON THERMAL LOADS IN SEVERE SERVICE CONDITIONS

        Heavy vehicles service brakes are subject to severe loading conditions that can exceed the design conditions of safe operating performance in critical situations. Materials are prone to lose their design properties at high temperatures. Since the function of brakes is to convert the vehicle kinetic energy into heat by friction, temperature is the main variable to be considered, due to the fade of the linings composite material and cast iron drum deformation. The intent of this work is to evaluate the thermal loads of brake drums, when subjected to severe service conditions, in order to allow further analyses, mainly related to their dimensional and form variation. A case study is described, showing the possibility of the development of high temperatures and consequent risk of accidents in a real long downhill descent. Experimental data were preferably used to assure higher accuracy to the analysis. In the authors’ further work, a FEA simulation will be conducted with the data supplied in the present paper.

        Complex percutaneous biliary procedures: Review and contributions of a high volume team

        A comprehensive literature review was performed to evaluate the state of art and level of evidence of complex percutaneous biliary procedures and their safeness and effectiveness. Amidst those procedures, the review focused on techniques to achieve non-dilated biliary drainage, multiple self-expandable metallic stents, multiple plastic stents for the treatment of benign biliary strictures, simultaneous biliary and duodenal stent placement, rendezvous maneuvers, and use of magnets to treat biliary stenosis or even create new anastomosis with the jejunum or duodenum. A description of each technique and revision of literature provides useful tools for clinical practice decisions.

        인류학연구 -반 세계화운동과 이태리 나폴리 도시

        이 논문의 목적은 세계화에 반대하는 운동과 이태리 나폴리 지역에서의 사회적이고 정치적인 전후사정 간의 관계를 규명하는 데 있다. 이 연구에서는 크게 두 가지 질문에 대한 대답을 추구하고 있다. 첫째는 어떻게 나폴리 지역에서의 사회적인 상황들이 지역 내의 항의 운동에 영향을 줄 수 있는가에 대한 것이고, 둘째는 그러한 항의 운동들이 나폴리 도시의 정치적인 상황에 어떤 영향을 미치는가에 대한 것이라고 할 수 있다. 이 두 가지 질문에 대해서 본 논문에서는 세 가지 요인들을 이용해 평가하려고 한다. 첫 번째 요인은 가족, 범죄 그리고 교회의 역할에 대한 것이다. 두 번째 요인은 나폴리 도시에 대한 민족적인 서술과 이 도시의 사회적인 체계이다. 마지막 세 번째 요인은 나폴리 도시에서의 정치적 운동과 저항 운동간의 관계이다. 이러한 질문과 요인들에 대한 본 논문의 결론을 말하자면, 반 세계화운동과 나폴리 지역에서 일어나는 항의 운동 사이에서는 정치적인 결과물이나 연속성을 찾아볼 수 없다는 것이다. 하지만, 나폴리 지역의항의 운동은 젊은 계층들이 참여했다는 점에서 심리학적인 면에서 매우 중요한 역할을 했다고 볼 수 있다. 왜냐하면 그 운동은 나폴리 지역의 젊은 중산층들에게 높은 수준의 범죄율과 권위 있는 위치에 있는 사람들의 부패 그리고 도시 내에서 보편적으로 발생하는 폭력에 대한 그들의 불만과 좌절감을 표현하는 데 일조하고 있다고 할 수 있기 때문이다. 이 연구는 저자가 나폴리에서 2002년 9월부터 2003년 7월까지 약 1년을 보내면서 참여 관찰과 질적 연구 중 하나인 대상자들과의 인터뷰를 통해 이루어졌고, 또한 그 해에 나폴리 도시에서 반세계화 운동으로 조직된 다양한 정치적인 항의운동에 참여하는 것을 통해 이루어졌다. 저자는 항의자들과 매일의 보통 일상생활에서 관계를 맺으면서 조사하였고, 그 기간 동안 도시의 항의자들과 일반 시민들 간의 100개 이상의 인터뷰 자료들을 수집할 수 있었다. 참고문헌들은 인류학과 정치학 두 분야 모두에서 사용되는 것으로 인류학 분야에서는 Italo Pardo and Thomas Belmonte의 연구에서 많은 도움을 받았고, 정치학 분야에서는 Edward Banfield, Isaia Sales and Robert Putnam를 비롯한 많은 여러 학자들의 연구에서 도움을 얻었다.

      • CONDICIONES Y CONSECUENCIAS DE LA MIGRACIÓN DE RETORNO INVERSOR CONTEMPORÁNEO EN HUANDACAREO, MICHOACÁN, MÉXICO

        Abstract. The total corpus of migration studies, research on return migration is scarce. Manufacturing are more recent, and although they have addressed their theoretical and methodological issues, and have explored themes and specific angles such as remigration, internal return, ethnic, retirees, professionals, transnationalism, gender, cultural, psychological, statistical, sick, studies comparative studies on investor returns are very few. And have been addressed from an economic or sociological. Is virtually absent historical analysis of the causes and consequences of investor return home communities around the world. This article, based on a case study in Michoacán, aims to uncover the causes and consequences of recent history in investor return migration at different levels of structural analysis. Palabras clave: migración internacional, migración de retorno, retorno inversor, macroestructuras, mesoestructuras, microestructuras, cambio social. Keywords: international migration, return migration, return investor, macro, mesostructures, microstructures, social change. Resumen. En el corpus total de los estudios sobre migración, las investigaciones sobre migración de retorno son escasas. Son de manufactura más reciente, y aunque han abordado su problemática teórico-metodológica, y han indagado temáticas y ángulos muy concretos tales como remigración, retorno interno, étnico, jubilados, profesionistas, transnacionalismo, género, culturales, psicológicos, estadísticos, enfermos, estudios comparativos, los estudios sobre retorno inversor son muy pocos. Y se han abordado desde una perspectiva económica o sociológica. Está prácticamente ausente el análisis histórico de las causas y consecuencias del retorno inversor en las comunidades de origen alrededor del mundo. Este artículo, basado en un estudio de caso en Michoacán, pretende develar las causas y consecuencias de la historia del presente de la migración de retorno inversor en sus diferentes niveles de análisis estructural.

        Reconstruction of genome-scale metabolic models of non-conventional yeasts: current state, challenges, and perspectives

        Non-conventional yeasts are promising cell factories to produce lipids and oleochemicals, metabolites of industrial interest ( e.g ., organics acids, esters, and alcohols), and enzymes. They can also use diff erent agro-industrial by-products as substrates within the context of a circular economy. Some of these yeasts can also comprise economic and health burdens as pathogens. Genome-scale metabolic models (GEMs), networks reconstructed based on the genomic and metabolic information of one or more organisms, are great tools to understand metabolic functions and landscapes, as well as propose engineering targets to improve metabolite production or propose novel drug targets. Previous reviews on yeast GEMs have mainly focused on the history and the evaluation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae modeling paradigms or the accessibility and usability of yeast GEMs. However, they did not describe the reconstruction strategies, limitations, validations, challenges, and research gaps of non-conventional yeast GEMs. Herein, we focused on the reconstruction of available non- Saccharomyces GEMs, their validation, underscoring the physiological insights, as well as the identifi cation of both metabolic engineering and drug targets. We also discuss the challenges and knowledge gaps and propose strategies to boost their use and novel reconstructions.
