        A Novel Control Strategy for HEV Using Brushless Dual-Mechanical-Port Electrical Machine on Cruising Condition

        Brushless Dual-Mechanical-Port Electrical Machine (BLDMPEM) is a new type of motor designed for Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), which contains two mechanical ports and two electric ports. Compared with Dual-Mechanical-Port Electrical Machine (DMPEM), the brushless structure brings higher reliability and easier maintenance. In this paper, the model of BLDMPEM is discussed. In Chapter 2, the energy flow and mathematical model of BLDMPEM are analyzed. Then a novel three-phase half-bridge controlled rectifier topology and its control strategy for cruising mode of HEV based on BLDMPEM are proposed in Chapter 3. Compared with the Field Oriented Control (FOC) strategy of BLDMPEM, the proposed method does not require accurate motor parameters, and it is much simpler and easier to be implemented. At last, simulation and experiment results show the feasibility and validity of the proposed strategy.

        Thermodynamic optimization of the Dy–Nd–Fe–B system and application in the recovery and recycling of rare earth metals from NdFeB magnet

        <P>A critical evaluation and optimization of all reliable experimental thermodynamic properties and phase diagram data of the Dy–Nd–Fe–B system has been performed to obtain the best set of model parameters to describe the Gibbs energy of all phases in the system. Thermodynamic models with optimized model parameters can be used to predict unexplored phase diagrams and complex thermodynamic equilibria. The thermodynamic database of the Mg–Dy–Nd–Fe–B system was prepared by integrating the present model parameters to the FactSage light alloy database (FTlite) and was applied to perform comprehensive thermodynamic analyses of the selective extraction and purification process of Nd and Dy from the NdFeB permanent magnet scrap using molten Mg. Essential process parameters such as temperature, magnet to solvent ratio, vacuum pressure, heat requirement, <I>etc</I>. are determined in order to maximize the selective extraction of the RE metal from the magnet scrap and produce an RE alloy with low impurity content.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>The developed thermodynamic database for the Dy–Nd–Fe–B–Mg system enables the calculation of complex phase diagrams for the selective recovery of Nd and Dy from NdFeB magnet scrap using the liquid metal extraction process. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c4gc02232g'> </P>

        Large Area Photonic Flash Soldering of Thin Chips on Flex Foils for Flexible Electronic Systems: In Situ Temperature Measurements and Thermal Modelling

        In this work photonic energy from a high power xenon flash lamp is used for soldering thin chips on polyimide and polyester foil substrates using standard Sn-Ag-Cu lead free alloys. The absorption of the xenon light pulse leads to rapid heating of components and tracks up to temperatures above the solder melting temperature, while the temperature in the organic foil substrates remains low. Due to its high transparency the temperature in the delicate polyester foil remains low enough to avoid damage and allows fast soldering with standard leadfree alloys. The technology is fast and could be applied in-line in roll-toroll fabrication of flexible electronics. In situ temperature measurements were performed and compared to finite element model predictions of the temperature in the chip during and after application of the photonic pulse. The accuracy of the model is within 10°C for the tested samples, which allows it to be used in developing photonic flash soldering compatible circuit designs.

        VEHICLE AND STEERING SYSTEM DYNAMICS IN THE CONTEXT OF ON-CENTRE HANDLING

        The interaction of the vehicle and steering system is important to evaluate the vehicle on-centre handling. To analyse the vehicle and steering system dynamics at small steering wheel angle inputs a methodological approach to validate a simulation model is developed in this paper. The presented model is focused on the description of the major on-centre handling phenomena and characteristics. For the validation of the model adjusted test manouevres and a certain procedure to achieve highly reproducible measurement data are described. Due to the collected measurement data it is possible to describe the vehicle on-centre behaviour and to validate the overall model in a phased manner and more exactly. The results show the importance of the steering system characteristics and its influence on the on-centre handling regarding small steering wheel angles at low frequencies. Next to the steering system friction and elasticity the influence of the vehicle and steering system hysteresis loop is presented.

      • Fast, <i>In Situ</i> Demagnetization Method for Protection Current Transformers

        <P>This paper proposes a fast, in situ demagnetization method for protection current transformers (CTs). Simulations show that the method can automatically demagnetize a CT within 300 ms in situ, i.e., while the CT is deenergized but still connected to the substation. Therefore, unlike existing methods that require the CT to be disconnected from the substation, this new method can be used to demagnetize a CT during a short interruption, e.g., the time it takes an autorecloser to operate, rather than requiring an extended outage of the substation. This will dramatically increase the number of opportunities for the demagnetization of protection CTs, which will alleviate the threat of remanent flux in the CT from causing saturation and compromising the performance of power system protection. Furthermore, by demagnetizing the CT in situ, the method avoids the risk of the improper reconnection of the CT, creating a source of hidden failure. The new method uses the existing dc voltage source in the substation to charge the CT and a parallel-connected inductor. An automatic control scheme is presented that manages the charge/discharge of the inductor, and thereby the demagnetization, by controlling three switches that reconfigure an RLC circuit. The additional hardware required by the method is the three switches, the switch controller, and the RLC circuit. The new method is tested for different hysteresis characteristics, levels of remanent flux, and errors in the assumed element parameters and measured hysteresis characteristics using EMTP-RV simulations. The results indicate that the proposed method can quickly and effectively demagnetize a protection CT in situ.</P>

        REVIEW : Is screening and surveillance for early detection of gastric cancer needed in Korean Americans?

        The incidence rate of gastric cancer in Korean Americans is over five times higher than that in non-Hispanic whites, and is similar to the incidence of colorectal cancer in the overall United States population. In Korea, the National Cancer Screening Program recommends endoscopy or upper gastrointestinal series for people aged 40 years and older every 2 years. However, the benefit of gastric cancer screening in Korean Americans has not been evaluated. Based on epidemiologic studies, Korean Americans appear to have more similar gastric cancer risk factors to Koreans as opposed to Americans of European descent, though the risk of gastric cancer appears to decrease for subsequent generations. Therefore, in accordance with recent recommendations regarding screening for gastric cancer in Korea, endoscopic screening for gastric cancer in Korean Americans should be considered, especially in those with known atrophic gastritis/intestinal metaplasia or a family history of gastric cancer. In the future, additional studies will needed to assess whether a screening program for gastric cancer in Korean Americans will result in a survival benefit.

        현대자동차는 세계 주요 자동차 브랜드 중의 하나로서 판매량은 세계 10위 안에 들고 있는 회사이며, 베이징현대자동차는 2002년 설립하여 베이징기차주식회사와 한국의 현대자동차가 각각 50%씩 투자 하여 설립한 합작 법인이다. 베이징 현대자동차는 중국이 WTO에 가입한 이후 자동차 산업 분야에서 인허가된 프로젝트 중의 하나로서 최근 10년 이후 빠르게 성장하면서 연간 백만대의 생산 및 판매 체계를 성공적으로 구축하였으며 15,000여명의 직원들도 보유하고 있는 국제적 기업이다. 현재 중국현지에만 총3개의 생산기지가 있고 연간 100만대의 완성차를생산할 수 있는 능력을 갖추고 있다. 베이징현대자동차는 중국시장에서 급성장하여 베이징현대자동차는 쏘나타와 아반떼의 중간 크기 세단을 중국시장의 상위층을 대상으로 판매되며 큰 인기를 끌기도 하였다. 그러나 최근 중국의 경제제제 등과 맞물려 생산 공장 가동 및 판매에 어려움을 겪고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서는 베이징현대자동차의 생산자산 글로벌 운용상황과 전략에 대해 분석하고 그 위험에 대하여 논하여 새로운 글로벌 자산운용 전략을 제시하는 것이다. 이를 통하여 효과적인 자동차시장의 생산자산 재배치 구성방안에 대한 이론적인 제언을 할 수 있을 것이다. Hyundai Motor is one of the world s major automobile brands and its sales volume is in the top 10 in the world. Beijing Hyundai is a joint venture established in 2002 and invested by Beijing Railway Co., Ltd. and Hyundai Motor of Korea by 50% each. Beijing Hyundai Motor has been one of the licensed projects in the automobile industry since China joined WTO. Since then, Hyundai Motor has been growing rapidly since 10 years and has successfully built a production and sales system of one million units annually with an international staff of 15,000 Company. Currently, it has three production bases in China and has the capacity to produce 1 million finished cars per year. Beijing Hyundai Motor grew rapidly in the Chinese market, and Beijing Hyundai Motor has sold mid-sized sedans of the Sonata and the Avante to the upper floors of the Chinese market and became very popular. However, recently, it seems that China has difficulties in operation and sales of production facilities in connection with economic sanctions. In this study, we analyze the situation and strategy of global asset management of Beijing Hyundai Motors and present a new global asset management strategy by discussing the risk. This suggests a theoretical suggestion on how to effectively rearrange production assets in the automobile market.
