      • Articles Published about Korean Turco-Tatars in the Magazine Yanga Yapon Muhbiri (New Japanese Courier)

DUNDAR, A. MERTHAN Academia Via Serica 2018 Acta Via Serica Vol.3 No.2

In Turkey, academic studies on Korea are mostly focused on the Korean war and Korean language and literature. Conversely, in Korea, it seems that academic studies are largely focused on old Turkic history and Turkish language and literature. Unfortunately, on both sides, there is not a satisfiying number of studies on the Turkic diaspora in Korea. However, it is a reality that there was a Turco-Tatar group that lived in Korea at the time of the Japanese occupation between the two world wars. This group became Turkish subjects after World War II and became a bridge between Korea and Turkey. After the Russian revolution, around 1919, some Turco-Tatar groups like the Bashkir and the Misher emigrated to East Asia like the Manchuria region of China and Korea. Beginning from the 1920s, some families moved to Japan, but a group of Turco-Tatar stayed in Korean cities like Seoul (Keijo), Pusan and Daegu. The Turco-Tatar groups of East Asia established schools and mosques in Seoul, Korea; Harbin, Manchuria; Kobe, Nagoya; and Tokyo in Japan. A Moslem printing house (Matbaa-i ${\dot{I}}slamiye$) was also established in Tokyo in the 1930s. Many books, a newspaper and a magazine were published by this printing house. The name of the magazine was Yanga Yapon Muhbiri(New Japanese Courier), and it survived between 1931 and 1938. In this magazine, there were many interesting news and data about Korea and the Turco-Tatars of Korea. In this short article, we will try to bring out the importance of this magazine by giving samples of the articles which were written on the Turco-Tatar diaspora in Korea.

Strength of biaxially loaded high strength reinforced concrete columns

        Dundar, Cengiz,Tokgoz, Serkan Techno-Press 2012 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.44 No.5

An experimental research was conducted to investigate the strength of biaxially loaded short and slender reinforced concrete columns with high strength concrete. In the study, square and L-shaped section reinforced concrete columns were constructed and tested to obtain the load-deformation behaviour and strength of columns. The test results of column specimens were analysed with a theoretical method based on the fiber element technique. The theoretical ultimate strength capacities and the test results of column specimens have been compared and discussed in the paper. Besides this, observed failure mode and experimental and theoretical load-lateral deflection behaviour of the column specimens are presented.

In-Vitro Efficacy of Synergistic Antibiotic Combinations in Multidrug Resistant Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Strains

Devrim Dundar,Metin Otkun 연세대학교의과대학 2010 Yonsei medical journal Vol.51 No.1

Purpose: Combination antibiotic treatment is preferred in nosocomial infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa). In vitro synergism tests were used to choose the combinations which might be used in clinic. The aim of this study was to investigate the synergistic efficacy of synergistic antibiotic combinations in multidrug resistant P. aeruginosa strains. Materials and Methods: Synergistic efficacies of ceftazidime-tobramycin,piperacillin/tazobactam-tobramycin, imipenem-tobramycin, imipenem-isepamycin, imipenem-ciprofloxacin and ciprofloxacin-tobramycin combinations were investigated by checkerboard technique in 12 multiple-resistant and 13 susceptible P. aeruginosa strains. Results: The ratios of synergy were observed in ceftazidime-tobramycin and piperacillin/tazobactam-tobramycin combinations as 67%, and 50%, respectively, in resistant strains, whereas synergy was not detected in other combinations. The ratios of synergy were observed in ceftazidime-tobramycin,piperacillin/tazobactam-tobramycin, imipenem-tobramycin, imipenem-ciprofloxacin and imipenem-isepamycin combinations as 31%, 46%, 15%, 8%, 8%, and respectively, in susceptible strains, whereas synergy was not detected in ciprofloxacin-tobramycin combination. Antagonism was not observed in any of the combinations. Conclusion: Although the synergistic ratios were high in combinations with ceftazidime or piperacillin/tazobactam and tobramycin, the concentrations in these combinations could not usually reach clinically available levels. Thus, the solution of the problems caused by multiple resistant P. aeruginosa should be based on the prevention of the development of resistance and spread of the causative agent between patients.

Single Dose Topical Application of Clotrimazole for the Treatment of Otomycosis: Is This Enough?

        Rıza Dundar,İsmail İynen 대한청각학회 2019 Journal of Audiology & Otology Vol.23 No.1

Background and Objectives: To determine the efficacy of filling the external auditory meatuswith 1% clotrimazole at a single visit for the treatment of otomycosis. Subjects andMethods: This prospective study included 40 patients who were referred to our clinic withcomplaints of ear itching, pain, and fullness, and were diagnosed with unilateral otomycosis. After cleaning the mycotic hyphae from the external auditory meatus, the ear canal was filledwith 1% clotrimazole, using an intravenous catheter and syringe. The patients received follow-up examinations on post-treatment days 7, 15, and 45. Results: The follow-up otomicroscopicexaminations revealed that 95% of the ear canals were entirely clean and that allsymptoms had resolved. The post-treatment scores of pain, aural fullness and itching weresignificantly lower than the pre-treatment scores (p<0.01). Conclusions: Filling the externalauditory meatus with 1% clotrimazole at a single visit is an easy, efficient, and cost-effectivetreatment for otomycosis. Additionally, high patient compliance makes this treatment superiorto long-term topical therapy.

An experimental investigation of the effects of chronic stress on bone-to-implant contact

        Serkan Dundar,Alihan Bozoglan,Ferhan Yaman,Mustafa Kirtay,Ozgur Bulmus,Hacer Sahin Aydinyurt,Murat Yavuz Solmaz,Cenk Yanen 대한구강악안면외과학회 2019 대한구강악안면외과학회지 Vol.45 No.2

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the effects of chronic restraint stress on the osseointegration of titanium implants. Materials and Methods: Twenty adult male Wistar albino rats were used in the study. After surgical insertion of titanium implants into the metaphyseal part of the tibial bone, rats were randomly divided into two groups: a control group (CNT group) and an experimental restraint stress group (RS group). In the CNT group, titanium implants were inserted surgically, and rats received no further treatment during the 47-day experimental period. In the RS group, restraint stress was applied for 3 hours per day for 45 days, beginning 2 days after implant surgery. Weight of the rats was measured prior to surgery and at the end of the study to analyze the effects of stress. At the end of the experimental period, rats were euthanized, and implants and surrounding bone tissues were used for undecalcified histological analysis. Serum cortisol levels were assessed in cardiac blood samples from the rats following centrifugation. Results: Average weight of rats in the RS group was lower than that of rats in the CNT group after the experimental protocol had been completed (P<0.05). Further, serum cortisol levels were higher in the RS group than in the CNT group (P<0.05). There were no significant differences in boneimplant connection levels between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: The data analyzed in this study suggest that chronic restraint stress did not adversely affect rats during a 45-day osseointegration period.

Prediction of deflection of high strength steel fiber reinforced concrete beams and columns

Ilker Fatih Kara,Cengiz Dundar 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2012 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.9 No.2

This paper presents an analytical procedure for the analysis of high strength steel fiber reinforced concrete members considering the cracking effect in the serviceability loading range. Modifications to a previously proposed formula for the effective moment of inertia are presented. Shear deformation effect is also taken into account in the analysis, and the variation of shear stiffness in the cracked regions of members has been considered by reduced shear stiffness model. The effect of steel fibers on the behavior of reinforced concrete members have been investigated by the developed computer program based on the aforementioned procedure. The inclusion of steel fibers into high strength concrete beams and columns enhances the effective moment of inertia and consequently reduces the deflection reinforced concrete members. The contribution of the shear deformation to the total vertical deflection of the beams is found to be lower for beams with fibers than that of beams with no fibers. Verification of the proposed procedure has been confirmed from series of reinforced concrete beam and column tests available in the literature. The analytical procedure can provide an accurate and efficient prediction of deflections of high strength steel fiber reinforced concrete members due to cracking under service loads. This procedure also forms the basis for the three dimensional analysis of frames with steel fiber reinforced concrete members.
