Be Prepared: Winter Cherry Bug is Coming!
Dongmok Kim,Un Taek Lim 한국응용곤충학회 2014 한국응용곤충학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2014 No.10
Winter cherry bug, Acanthocoris sordidus Thunberg (Hemiptera: Coreidae) is a pest of Solanaceous and Convolvulaceous crops and distributed in Taiwan, Japan, and Korea. Adult female generally lays eggs in cluster on host plant leaves. Most researches have been conducted in Japan, and it is regarded as a minor pest. In this study, we surveyed the seasonal population change of A. sordidus and its damages from May to September by visual count in experimental pepper fields located in Andong National University, where no pesticide was sprayed. Hatchability was measured using field-laid egg mass covered by nylon-meshed pouch. Potential disease transmission was confirmed in filed pepper fruits confined for a week with two adult A. sordidus inside nylon-meshed pouch. Adults and eggs of A. sordidus started to appear in 30th May and 10th June, respectively. Nymph populations were first found on 10th July. No eggs were found from 7th September when highest adult population (67/plant) was recorded. Hatchability was over 90% in the field. No disease transmission to pepper fruit was observed. We believe that A. sordidus would become a serious pest under a certain condition such as low level of insecticide use and climate change.

<P>We have studied the influence of the surface roughness of copper foils on the sheet resistance of graphene sheets grown by chemical vapor deposition. The surface roughness of the copper foils was reproducibly controlled by electropolishing. We have found that the graphene sheet resistance monotonically decreases as the surface roughness of the copper foils decreases. We show that a pre-annealing treatment combined with an optimized electropolishing process of the Cu foils and a fast CVD growth prevents the evolution of the Cu surface roughness during graphene synthesis. This combination of fabrication conditions produces small grain polycrystalline graphene films with a sheet resistance of 210 Ω □−1and carrier mobility values as high as 5450 cm2V−1s−1after transfer onto SiO2/Si.</P>

RFID has been used as an identification tool that substitutes for bar codes. Its areas if application are increasing due to its suitability in ubiquitous environment. In this paper first, we review various aspects of RFID, including standards, characteristics, and relationships with wireless sensor networks. Then, we review the technical aspects of RFID and its areas if application, e.g., supply chain management (SCM) and manufacturing since 2005. SCM, in which RFIDs can shorten lead time and ensure the quality if products, is one of the most active application areas. Manufacturing is a relatively new area for RFID applications, but it is believed that it can enhance the productivity and the reliability of the products. Also, the authors suggest research issues and limitations of RFID, as well as possible application areas related to marine engineering.

This paper presents the use of an expert system to automate process planning of block assembly, a task that is usually completed manually. In order to determine the sequence of assembly operations, a search method guided by rules, such as merging of related operations, grouping of similar operations, and precedence rules based on know-hows and geometrical reasoning, is used. In this paper, the expert system developed is explained in detail regarding a global database, control strategies, and rule bases. For verification purposes, the expert system has been applied to simple examples. Since the rule bases are isolated from the inference engine in the developed system, it is easy to add more rules in the future.

Two dimensional nesting is a common problem in industries such as the shipbuilding, automotive, clothing, shoe-making, and furniture industries, in which various parts are cut off from stock or packed in a flat space while minimizing waste or unoccupied space. Nesting is known as an NP-complete problem, which has a solution time proportional to the superpolynomial of the input size. It becomes practically impossible to find an optimal solution using algorithmic methods as the number of shapes to nest increases. Therefore, heuristic methods are commonly used to solve nesting problems. This paper presents an expert system that uses a heuristic search method based on an evaluation function for nesting problems, in which parts and stock are represented by pixels. The system is developed in CLIPS, an expert system shell, and is applied to four different kinds of example problems to verify its applicability in practical problems.
