        DO와 ORP를 이용한 축산폐수처리 SBR운전 제어

        A pilot scale SBR (working volume, 20㎥) treating piggery wastewater was operated with real wastewater. The operation mode of intermittent feeding of raw water and sub-cycle with repeating anoxic-aeration conditions were adapted to avoid the high-strength nitrogen inhibition. In sub-cycle, aeration time for nitrification was tried to be controled with ORP and/or DO meter. The characteristics of control was somewhat different between ORP and DO. DO showed potential ability to detect complete ammonia oxidation point by the first order differential values or absolute value. Especially, DO was proved to be useful for high loading rates. ORP indicated the ending point of nitrification by the plateau appearing after bending point. Because ORP can be utilized as a diagnosis tool by its good sensitivity for the microbial condition in reactor, the simultaneous application of DO and ORP was recommended for the stable control of SBR.

      • Do-Not-Resuscitate Orders for Terminal Patients with Cancer in Teaching Hospitals of Korea

        <P>OBJECTIVES: To examine the current practices relating to do-not-resuscitate (DNR) orders for terminal patients with cancer at teaching hospitals in Korea. METHODS: The records of 387 deaths from January 1 to December 31, 2005 at four cancer centers were identified and reviewed to assess the DNR delineation. Basic demographics, circumstances surrounding the establishment of the DNR directive, the percentage of orders for identified populations, and the time interval between DNR consent and death were evaluated. RESULTS: An order of DNR consent was obtained from 296 patients (76%) of a total of 387 patients. All DNR consents were made between the physician and family, without involving the patient. Written preprinted DNR consent forms were used in 169 (57%) cases and 127 patients (43%) had verbal DNR permission. DNR consent was interpreted in two ways: one forbade resuscitation in two hospitals and the other implied limited care in two other hospitals. A unilateral physician decision to withhold cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was decided for 62 (16%) patients. Terminal CPR was performed on 29 (7%) patients. DNR discussion was made within 7 days of the day of death on 228 (77%) patient among the 296 DNR consenting patients. CONCLUSION: From our teaching-hospital-based analysis of terminal cancer patients in Korea, consent for a DNR order was common. However, DNR order forms were not standardized and lacked room to document patient involvement in the decision. Usually the DNR decision was made within last days of the patient's life. Our results reflect the need for the improvement of end-of-life care decisions in Korea.</P>

        An Evaluation of Nutrition Support for Terminal Cancer Patients at Teaching Hospitals in Korea

        Purpose: We wanted to analyze the use of nutrition support for terminal cancer patients, the effect of discussing withdrawal of nutrition support and do-not- resuscitate (DNR) consent on the use of intravenous nutrition during the patient’s last week of life and at the time of death.Materials and Methods: The study involved 362 patients with terminal cancer from four teaching hospitals, and they all died between January 1 2003 and December 31 2005. The basic demographic data, the use of intravenous nutrition during the patient’s last week of life and at death, discussion of terminal nutrition withdrawal and DNR consent were evaluated.Results:In the week before death, the patients received artificial nutrition such as total parenteral nutrition (31%), intravenous albumin infusion (25%), and feeding tube placements (9%). A discussion concerning withdrawal of nutrition support was limited to 25 (7%) patients. DNR consent was obtained from 294 (81%) patients. None of the patients were directly involved in any of these decisions. The discussion about withdrawal of terminal nutrition and DNR consent with the patient’s surrogates did not have any effect on reducing the use of parenteral nutrition.Conclusion: The majority of patients dying of terminal cancer were still given potentially futile nutritional support. Modern clinical guidelines and ethical education about nutritional support at the end of life care is urgently needed in Korean medical practice to provide proper administration of terminal nutrition for end of life care.         Influence of heat‑treated Al-Si coating on the weldability and microstructural inhomogeneity for hot stamped steel resistance nut projection welds

        Resistance nut projection weldability of Al–Si coated hot stamped steel (HSS) was investigated under the viewpoint of weldablecurrent range and joint strength (pull-out load). The microstructural inhomogeneities in the welds were also studied inorder to elucidate the factors affecting the joint strength of the welds. The weldability of the given Al–Si coated HSS wascompared with the weldability of an identical HSS without the Al–Si coating (Al–Si coating was polished out) and Zn coateddual phase steel. The weldable current range of Al–Si coated HSS was found to be narrower than that of the other materials. Furthermore, the average pull-out load within the weldable current range of the Al–Si coated HSS was the lowest among thethree materials. The reason for poor weld mechanical property of the Al–Si coated hot-stamped steel was attributed to themicrostructural inhomogeneities such as unmixed Al–Si coating layer at the edge of the nugget and the second phase Fe3(Al,Si) intermetallic compound. The formation of Fe3(Al, Si) phase was attributed to the solidification segregation of Al and Siduring the weld solidification and was confirmed with the numerical analysis of solidification segregation.

        비온의 연구에 나타난 시간성의 정신분석적 의미 : 버지니아 울프의 소설 『등대로』를 중심으로

        “시간이 흐른다”는 것은 자연 속에 존재하는 당연한 현상이므로 그 정신분석적 의미는 간과되기 쉽지만 비온은 그 의미에 대해 논한 바 있다. 비온의 연구에서 시간성은 사고의 발달 과정에서 나타난다. 시간의 측정은 좌절을 견딜 수 있는 유아에게 가능하며, 부재하는 젖가슴과 젖가슴 사이의 간격 측정과 “무의식적 깨어 생각하기”의 과정을 거쳐 유아의 내면에 시간의 흐름에 대한 관념이 생겨난다. 본 논문에서는 시간의 흐름에 대한 관념은 사고의 발달이 가능한 표지로서 기능할 수 있다고 보았고, 사고의 방향성이 가진 시간적 측면에 따라 시간을 K시간과 O시간으로 나누었다. 시간에 대한 인식의 실패는 O로의 변형에 필연적으로 수반되는 시간의 분열에서 생겨날 수 있으며, O로의 변형을 시도하였으나 좌절을 견디지 못하여 –K로 도피하였을 경우에도 생겨난다. 이때 K시간을 방어로서 사용할 수 있다. 이러한 시간에 대한 인식의 실패가 있는 경우 시간에 대한 특정한 증상으로 발현될 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 사례로 버지니아 울프의 작가 일기 「로드멜 1926」을 선정하였다. 「로드멜 1926」은 버지니아 울프의 자전적 소설인 『등대로』를 집필하던 당시의 일기로, 소설 속에는 버지니아 울프의 알파 기능, O에 직면하고 이를 변형하려고 시도하는 모습, 좌절을 견디지 못하여 –K로 도피하는 모습, 그 과정에서 나타난 시간의 분열과 멸절의 양상이 잘 드러나 있다. 「로드멜 1926」에 나타난 시간적 측면의 증상은 버지니아 울프가 소설 속에서 보여준 시간에 대한 인식의 실패가 현실로 발현된 사례로 볼 수 있을 것이다. “Time flows” is a natural phenomenon. But it’s psychoanalytic implications may not be obvious. In Bion’s study, measurement of time becomes possible for infants who can endure frustration, and through the process of “Unconscious wakeful thinking”, the notion on continuity of time is created in the infant’s mind. Time is classified as K time and O time according to the thought’s direction upon the aspect of time in this article. Failure of recognition of time can be generated from the splitting of time that is inevitably accompanied with the transformation of O, and it is generated when one tries to transform into O but cannot endure the frustration so as to escape into –K. In this case, K time can be used as a defense. When failure of recognition of time occurs, it can manifest as a certain symptom related to time. Virginia Woolf’s diary, “Rodmell 1926” would be this case. “Rodmell 1926” is Virginia Woolf’s diary when she wrote her autobiographical novel, To the Lighthouse. In the novel, her alpha function, the confrontation and attempt at transformation of O, the escape to –K due to intolerance of frustration, and splitting of time and annihilation were well illustrated. The symptoms of time that appeared in “Rodmell 1926” can be considered as the case of failure of recognition of time that Virginia Woolf wrote about in her novel, which was expressed in reality.

        The blood-brain barrier is not an absolute barrier to the passage of toxic agents into the CNS, Instead, it represents a site that is less permeable than are most other areas of the body, Nevertheless, many poisons do not readily enter the brain in appreciable quantities because of this barrier. There are four major anatomic and physiological reasons why some toxicants do not readily enter the CNS, First, the capillary endothelial cells of the CNS are tightly joined, leaving few or no pores between the cells, Second, the brain capillary endothelial cells contain an ATP-dependent transporter, the multidrug-resistant (MDR) protein that transports some chemicals into the blood. Third, the capillaries in the CNS are to a large extent surrounded by glial cell processes (astrocytes).

        랜덤포레스트를 이용한 낙동강 본류의 남조류 발생 영향인자 분석

        본 연구에서는 랜덤포레스트를 이용하여 8개 보 지점별 남조류 발생 주요 영향인자를 도출하고, 조류경보제 기반의범주형 예측모델을 개발하였다. 8개 보 지점의 랜덤포레스트의 변수 중요도를 살펴본 결과, 상류의 보 지점들은 남조류 발생에 있어 보 운영에 따른 영향을 직접적으로 받는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 효율적인 보 운영을 통한 남조류 관리가 가능할 수 있다는 것을 의미한다. 중류 구간은 DO와 E.C가 주요 영향인자로 도출되었다. 공간적으로 구미와 김천에 대규모 산업공단들이 밀집되어 있으며, 환경기초시설의 배출량이 큰 영향을 끼치는 구간이다. 따라서 폭염 및 가뭄 시기에 중류 유역에서 배출되는 환경기초시설의 방류는 본류의 E.C를 증가하게 하고 남조류 발생을 촉진 시키는것으로 나타났다. 중·하류에 위치한 보 지점들은 폭염 및 가뭄의 영향을 가장 많이 받는 지역으로 여름철 가뭄에 따른남조류 대발생에 대비하여 선제적인 관리가 필요한 지점으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 지점별 남조류 발생 영향인자를 도출하였으며, 맞춤형 조류관리를 위한 정책적 의사결정의 기초자료로 제공될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. In this study, the main influencing factors of the occurrence of cyanobacteria at each of the eight Multifunctional weirs were derived using a random forest, and a categorical prediction model based on a Algal bloom warning system was developed. As a result of examining the importance of variables in the random forest, it was found that the upstream points were directly affected by weir operation during the occurrence of cyanobacteria. This means that cyanobacteria can be managed through efficient security management. DO and E.C were indicated as major influencers in midstream. The midstream section is a section where large-scale industrial complexes such as Gumi and Gimcheon are concentrated as well as the emissions of basic environmental facilities have a great influence. During the period of heatwave and drought, E.C increases along with the discharge of environmental facilities discharged from the basin, which promotes the outbreak of cyanobacteria. Those monitoring sites located in the middle and lower streams are areas that are most affected by heat waves and droughts, and therefore require preemptive management in preparation for the outbreak of cyanobacteria caused by drought in summer. Through this study, the characteristics of cyanobacteria at each point were analyzed. It can provide basic data for policy decision-making for customized cyanobacteria management

        State Indicator of Water Quality for Surface Water and Groundwater in Agriculture

        Indicators of environmental conditions qualitatively and quantitatively describe the state of the environment and natural resources, and the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) has initiated and suggested AEIs (Agri-Environmental Indicators) to assess trends over time of the effects of agriculture on the environment and the effectiveness and efficiency of agricultural and environmental policy measures since 1990’s. This study aims to develop the state indicators of water quality for agricultural water, surface and groundwater, to evaluate the environmental impacts of agricultural activities and policies by qualifying the environmental levels of a nation. Status indicators were calculated according to the agricultural water quality standards of OECD and Korea, and their trends were analyzed over time. Particularly, nitrate(NO₃<SUP>-</SUP>) status indicators of ground water in 2013 were significantly lower than the ones in 2000. Overall, the water quality indicators of surface water in 2013 were higher than the ones in 2012, except for pH and DO. The groundwater quality indicators in 2013 were lower than those of previous years. The optimal management indicators were calculated to assess agricultural surface water and groundwater quality. The findings of this study indicated that the state indicators could play a significant role to establish policies and procedures for managing and conserving water resources. This study also discussed water pollution caused by agricultural and industrial effluents.

        시판 유아용 커버롤의 치수적합성에 관한 연구

        The purpose of this study was to provide information on how to improve the current sizing system of infant coveralls through analysis of the present system. In order to compile the information about dissatisfaction with th appropriateness of the fit of infant coveralls, a questionnaire was administered to mothers of 241 infants (aged under 36 months) living in Seoul, and analyzed using the SPSS WIN.10.0program. Also, the manufacturers' basic body sizes were investigated. The results of this study were as follows : 1. The results of the comparison between the manufacturers' basic body sizes and the body measurement values obtained as the physical standard of the nation(1997) show that in terms of length and hip circumference, the manufacturers' body sizes were larger. On the other hand, in the waist circumference, the manufacturers' body sizes were smaller than the national average. 2. Research on the production sizing system of domestic and international brands, showed that the sizing interval of domestic brands were 6 months, whereas the international brands were 3 months for infants under 12 months. 3. Concerning fit, the areas causing most dissatisfaction were: the trunk length, sleeve length, inside leg length, and neck depth. The results showed that dissatisfaction with the suitability of the sizing of current infant coveralls according to the body part differed among the groups according to the month of age.
