Second order effects of external prestress on frequencies of simply supported beam by energy method
De-Ping Fang 국제구조공학회 2014 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.52 No.4
Based on the energy method considering the second order effects, the natural frequencies of externally prestressed simply supported beam and the compression softening effect of external prestress force were analyzed. It is concluded that the compression softening effect depends on the loss of external tendon eccentricity. As the number of deviators increases from zero to a large number, the compression softening effect of external prestress force decreases from the effect of axial compression to almost zero, which is consistent with the conclusion mathematically rigorously proven. The frequencies calculated by the energy method conform well to the frequencies by FEM which can simulate the frictionless slide between the external tendon and deviator, the accuracy of the energy method is validated. The calculation results show that the compression softening effect of external prestress force is negligible for the beam with 2 or more deviators due to slight loss of external tendon eccentricity. As the eccentricity and area of tendon increase, the first natural frequency of the simply supported beams noticeably increases, however the effect of the external tendon on other frequencies is negligible.

Nogo protein, encoded by gene reticulon-4 (RTN4), includes three major isoforms by different splicing, named Nogo-A Nogo-B and Nogo-C. Nogo proteins play an important role in the apoptosis of cells, especially in tumor cells. RTN4 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) can influence the efficiency of transcription and translation thus being related with an individual's predisposition to cancer. The CAA insertion/deletion polymorphism (rs34917480) within RTN4 3'-UTR has been reported to be associated with many cancer types. In order to investigate the relationship between this polymorphism and susceptibility to non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in the Chinese population, we conducted the present case-control study including 411 NSCLC patients and 471 unrelated healthy controls. The genotype distributions were significantly different between cases and controls (p=0.014). We found that the del allele could significantly increase NSCLC risk (ins/ins vs ins/del: p=0.007, OR 1.46, 95%CI=1.11-1.93; dominant model: p=0.004, OR 1.47, 95%CI=1.13-1.92 and allele model: p=0.008, OR 1.35, 95%CI=1.08-1.67). This association was stronger in participants over 60 years old, males and smokers. We therefore conclude that the CAA insertion/deletion polymorphism (rs34917480) contributes to non-small cell lung cancer risk in Chinese population. Age, sex and environmental exposure are also related to carcinogenic effects of rs34917480.

Background: GC-binding factor 2 (GCF2) is a transcriptional regulator that represses transcriptional activity of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) by binding to a specific GC-rich sequence in the EGFR gene promoter. In addition to this function, GCF2 has also been identified as a tumor-associated antigen and regarded as a potentially valuable serum biomarker for early human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) diagnosis. GCF2 is high expressed in most HCC tissues and cell lines including HepG2. This study focused on the influence of GCF2 on cell proliferation and apoptosis in HepG2 cells. Materials and Methods: GCF2 expression at both mRNA and protein levels in HepG2 cells was detected with reverse transcription (RT) PCR and Western blotting, respectively. RNA interference (RNAi) technology was used to knock down GCF2 mRNA and protein expression. Afterwards, cell viability was analyzed with a Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), and cell apoptosis and caspase 3 activity by flow cytometry and with a Caspase 3 Activity Kit, respectively. Results: Specific down-regulation of GCF2 expression caused cell growth inhibition, and increased apoptosis and caspase 3 activity in HepG2 cells. Conclusions: These primary results suggest that GCF2 may influence cell proliferation and apoptosis in HepG2 cells, and also provides a molecular basis for further investigation into the possible mechanism at proliferation and apoptosis in HCC.

The ascomycete fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides infects a wide range of plant hosts and causes enormous economic losses in the world. The transcription factors (TFs) play an important role in development and pathogenicity of many organisms. In this study, we found that the C2H2 TF CgCrzA is localized in both cytoplasm and nucleus under standard condition, and it translocated from cytoplasm to nucleus in a calcineurin- dependent manner. Moreover, the ΔCgCrzA was hypersensitive to cell wall perturbing agents and showed severe cell wall integrity defects. Deletion of the CgCRZA inhibited the development of invasive structures and lost pathogenicity to plant hosts. Our results suggested that calcineurin-responsive TF CgCrzA was not only involved in regulating cell wall integrity, but also in morphogenesis and virulence in C. gloeosporioides.
Dynamic analysis for gene expression profiles of endothelial colony forming cells under hypoxia

Previous studies have shown that endothelial colony forming cells (ECFCs) play an important role in the neovascularization of tumors. Hypoxia is emphasized as an important promoter of angiogenesis. However, little is known about genome-wide transcriptional regulation of ECFCs under hypoxic conditions. In this study, gene expression profiles in ECFCswere evaluated under hypoxic conditions for 3, 6, 12, 24,and 48 h, using Affymetrix U133 plus 2.0 chip microarray. 1,103 hypoxia-regulated genes were filtered, with 379(0.693 %) genes up-regulated and 724 (1.32 %) genes downregulated. Most of the up-regulated genes were involved in apoptosis, cell proliferation, or metabolic processes, while most of the down-regulated genes were involved in cell adherence, cell cycle,DNAandmRNAmetabolic processes,multi-cellular organism development, protein metabolic processes, response to stress, signal transduction, or transport. This expression profile is ECFC-specific, because it is significantly different from those of endothelial cells and smooth muscle cells under hypoxic conditions. Moreover, hypoxia-regulated apoptosis in ECFCs is mainly related with the mitochondrial pathway (p53-BAX-Caspase-9) and the death receptor pathway (FASCaspase-8-Caspase-3). MAPK pathway is activated in ECFCs under hypoxic conditions. The differentially expressed genes of ECFCs were identified under hypoxic conditions, and related with cell apoptosis, cell cycle and MAPK pathways, shedding light on the mechanism of angiogenesis.
Rice Production, Consumption and Trading in China (초)
( De Feng Zhu ),( Yu Ping Zhang ),( Jing Xiang ) 한국식품저장유통학회 ( 구 한국농산물저장유통학회 ) 2010 한국식품저장유통학회 학술대회 Vol.2010 No.-
China is the largest rice production country in the world. Chinese rice planting stands for 18.7 % of world rice planting area and contributes 28.5% of world rice production. Rice is a staple food in China. Its planting area and production stands for 27% and 38% of grain crops in China respectively. About 60% of the Chinese population lives on rice. Due to the decreasing rice area in the south, percentage of rice production in national grain production is decreasing in recent decades. Rice planting method is shifting from hand transplanting to labor saving planting methods, including seedling throwing, direct seeding and machine transplanting. Hybrid rice covers more than 55% of rice area. Average rice consumption per capita is 65.9 kg in the northeast and 120.9 in the south in the period from 2003 to 2009. In recent years, rice consumption per capita is decreasing by 3.3% in the northeast and 2.8% in the south annually. On the whole, the rice production in China will be sufficient to meet the consumption demand of the population in urban and rural areas. But there still exists a certain gap between the current production and domestic potential demand of quality rice in China, which will provide a great potential for rice trade. China imports and exports rice. Annual import rice is about 0.41 million ton and export 1.27million ton during the period from 1980 to 2009. Rice variety of import main is good quality rice, such as aromatic rice, while that of export main is Japonica and normal indica rice.
