Objective Parity is associated with an increased risk of pelvic floor muscle dysfunction. The aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term effects of parity on this musculature. Methods This cross-sectional study was completed at the Department of Physical Therapy, Federal University of Sao Carlos, Brazil. In total, 143 women participated in the study and were classified into three groups according to parity: nulliparae, primiparae, and secundiparae women. All parous participants had last given birth between 1 and 6 years prior. Pelvic floor muscle function was assessed through unidigital vaginal palpation using the PERFECT scheme, with the contraction grade classified according to the Modified Oxford Scale and through manometry. Results There was no difference in scores on the Modified Oxford Scale (the means and standard deviations were 2.5±0.8 in nulliparae women, 2.3±0.9 in primiparae women, and 2.2±0.9 in secundiparae women; P=0.482) and manometry findings (the means and standard deviations were 42.3±22.7 in nulliparae women, 35.0±21.8 in primiparae women, and 33.2±20.0 in secundiparae women; P=0.144) among the assessed groups. Conclusion Parity had no effect, regardless of mode of birth, on the function of pelvic floor muscles and the presence of urinary symptoms, such as long-term urinary incontinence after birth.

Objective: The objective was to characterize the fermentative and microbiological profile of Tifton 85 bermudagrass haylage with different layers of polyethylene film and storage time. Methods: The experimental design consisted of a randomized block design with four and six wrapping layers (100 and 150 microns in total. respectively) allocated in the main plots, through repeated measures analysis (30, 60, and 90 days of storage) with four replicates. Results: The storage time and number of wrapping layers did not show changes in the population of Clostridium and lactic acid bacteria. A decrease was observed in the enterobacteria population with an increase in the storage period in the two wrapping layers studied. Upon opening of the haylage at 30 days, the population of Bacillus was lower in haylages made with six layers of wrapping (3.63 log colony forming units/g). No growth of Listeria sp. or Salmonella sp. was observed during the experimental period. The fungal genera with a greater occurrence were Penicillium sp. and Fusarium sp. The following mycotoxins were not detected: ochratoxin A, fumonisins, and zearalenone. Relative to the organic butyric, propionic, and acetic acids, the haylages presented a low concentration of lactic acid; this may have prevented a drop in the pH, which was high when the silos were opened (5.4). The levels of ammoniacal nitrogen and soluble carbohydrates presented no variation among the number of wrapping layers, with an overall average of 35.55 and 38.04 g/kg. Conclusion: Tifton 85 bermudagrass haylage wrapped with four and six layers presented adequate fermentation and microbiological characteristics in the evaluated periods.

The costs associated with law enforcement have seen a sharp increase, driven by rising personnel costs and the growing demand for policing services (Gasco?n, 2010; Urban Institute, 2020). Considerable discussion has arisen about how science can potentially help law enforcement “do more with less”, and some scholars have suggested introducing new crime control technologies to address this problem (e.g., Roach, 2022; Weisburd & Neyroud, 2011). With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, police departments around the world had additional demand, as they were made responsible for overseeing and ensuring compliance with COVID protocols. As a response, some countries (e.g., Singapore and China; Barrett, 2021) resorted to employing service robots either alongside or in place of police officers to assist with COVID-related compliance tasks.
Characterization of Open-Pollinated Maize Varieties from Rio Grande do Sul State

The morphological characterization allows one to estimate and evaluate the genetic distance among different varieties, identifying heterotrophic groups by means of clustering methods. The objectives of the study were to characterize improved open-pollinated varieties (VPAs) and maize landraces based on the main quantitative agronomic traits and to estimate the variability and similarity between them. Sixteen maize varieties from the southern region of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil were evaluated. Data were subjected to analysis of variance. For the characterization, the Tukey averages comparison test was performed. The similarity among the varieties was tested using the Tocher optimization method. The differences detected indicate the presence of genetic variability among the studied varieties. According to the Tocher grouping, it was found that some populations have the potential to be selected as parents in breeding programs, maximizing the variability obtained from their crosses. For certain traits, maize landraces do not differ from improved varieties and show high similarity.

Solanum anguivi fruit saponin has antidiabeticproperty via interference with cellular energy metabolismand inhibition of reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. In the current study, brain specific in vitro anti-oxidantrole of S. anguivi saponin was investigated in the P2synaptosomal fraction of rat brain. Using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide reductionassay, S. anguivi saponin concentration- dependently(10–200 lg/ml) reversed Fe2? and sodium nitroprussideinduceddecrease in mitochondrial activity via inhibition ofROS production, ROS-induced oxidation of protein andnon-protein thiol-containing molecules and lipid peroxidationas measured by thiobarbituric acid reactive substanceslevels. Conclusively, S. anguivi fruit saponin represents a class of natural compounds with the ability toreverse synaptosomal disruption, loss of mitochondrialintegrity and function often associated with the progressionof Huntington’s disease, Alzheimer disease, Parkinsondisease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis diseases.

The objective of this study was to assess the effect of substituting corn with soybean hulls on the ingestive behavior and nitrogen balance of Santa Ines lambs. A total of 25 lambs with an initial body weight of $20{\pm}2$ kg at approximately six months of age, sheltered individually in stalls ($1.10m{\times}1.0m$), considering an entirely casual experimental delineation. Soybean hulls were substituted for corn at 0, 250, 500, 750, and 1,000 g/kg of dry matter (DM). The time spent feeding, ruminating, masticating, and resting was not affected by the substitution of corn with soybean hulls. In fact, the feeding efficiency in g DM/h and the rumination efficiency in g DM/bolus increased linearly with soybean hull substitution in the feed. Although the nitrogen balance was not altered by the use of soybean hulls as a substitute for corn in the diets of Santa Ines lambs, the N ingested and N digested expressed in g/d, N retained as a percentage of that ingested, and N retained as a percentage of that digested displayed quadratic behavior. In conclusion, corn can be substituted with soybean hulls up to 1,000 g/kg of dry matter in the concentrate, without changing the ingestive behavior and nitrogen balance.
Oncogenic Signaling Pathways in The Cancer Genome Atlas

<P><B>Summary</B></P> <P>Genetic alterations in signaling pathways that control cell-cycle progression, apoptosis, and cell growth are common hallmarks of cancer, but the extent, mechanisms, and co-occurrence of alterations in these pathways differ between individual tumors and tumor types. Using mutations, copy-number changes, mRNA expression, gene fusions and DNA methylation in 9,125 tumors profiled by The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), we analyzed the mechanisms and patterns of somatic alterations in ten canonical pathways: cell cycle, Hippo, Myc, Notch, Nrf2, PI-3-Kinase/Akt, RTK-RAS, TGFβ signaling, p53 and β-catenin/Wnt. We charted the detailed landscape of pathway alterations in 33 cancer types, stratified into 64 subtypes, and identified patterns of co-occurrence and mutual exclusivity. Eighty-nine percent of tumors had at least one driver alteration in these pathways, and 57% percent of tumors had at least one alteration potentially targetable by currently available drugs.
