        This paper proposes the new image segmentation method using AACA(advaneced adaptive clustering algorithm) and GA(genetic algorithm). The solution in the general GA is able to be moving because of stochastic reproduction. To cope with these problems, we proposes GBR(great bast reinsertion) and the technique that resolves the premature convergence problem. We also proposes image segmentation method for optimizing vigilance parameter and cluster value. Finally, We uses the new method that removes the small regions in the segmented results. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm(SGACA; segmentation using genetic adaptive clustering algorithm) gives better performance than the AACA ones.

        Retroperitoneal fibrosis is a fibrotic process of the retroperitoneum that frequently produces ureteral obstruction. It can occur as an idiopathic disease or in association with various non-malignant and malignant condition. In the early phase of the retroperitoneal fibrosis ; symptoms originate from the disease process itself, while in the late state the clinical features represent the effect of obstructive uropathy and renal failure. Treatment consist of steroid therapy, urinary diversion and ureterolysis with jntraperitonealization or lateralization or wrapping with omentum. Herein we present 5 cases of retroperitoneal fibrosis.

      • 하부요관결석의 체외충격파쇄석술에 대한 임상경험

        During the last 33 months period between June, 1989 and March, 1992 Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) was performed 275 patients with lower ureteral stone by Northgate SD-3 Litho-triptor. Stone localization was done by ultrasonography and diazepam & fentanyl citrate was used intravenously to control pain during procedure in all patients. The success rate of treatment (rate free of calculi plus that of clinically insignificant residual fragment) was 98.1% below lO㎜ in stone size, 95.7% in ll-20㎜, 87.5% in 21-30㎜, 50% over 31㎜ and total mean success rate was 96.7%. Among the ESWL-failed 9 cases, ureterolithotomy was done in 5 cases, ureterorenoscopy in 2 cases and ston basket in 2 cases. Complications after ESWL were transient hematuria 100%, flank pain 7.3% and fever 1.8% and treated conservatively. Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy monotherapy with the Northgate SD-3 lithotriptor was considered to be effective and safe procedure for the initial treatment of lower ureteral stone.

        Algal bioassay 에 의한 조류생장 제한영양염류 결정

        Determination of Limiting Nutrient for Algal Growth by Algal Bioassay. Oh, Hee-Mock, Seog June Lee, Seong-Bin Kim, Mi- Kyung Park, Byung-Dae Yoon and Do-Han Kim (Environmental Microbiology Research Unit, Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Taejon 305-333, Korea and Water Resources Research Institute, Korea Water Resources Corporation, Taejon 305-390, Korea) Water quaiity and algal growth potential (AGP) using Microcystis aeruginosa were investigated from April to September 1997 in Daechung Reservoir. Secchi disk transparency was 1.1 m in August. Chlorophyll-a concentrations were higher than 10㎍/l at all samples. Total phosphorus concentration was in a range of 0.020∼0.027mg/l which is at the approximate value of 0.03 mg/l, the general critical level of eutrophication. These results indicate that Daechung Reservoir is in an eutrophic state except some temporary times and restricted sites. Phosphorus uptake rate of M. aeruginosa was higher in the water from the epilimnion than in the hypolimnion and also higher under light condition than under dark condition. Therefore, phosphorus uptake rate appears to depend on cellular phosphorous content and light condition, a meaning of endergonic process. Phosphorus was the most frequently limiting nutrient: phosphorus was limiting algal gowth in April and May, nitrogen, phosphorus and trace elements were the limiting factors for algae in August, and trace elements in September. If a fast growing alga, M, aeruginosa, is used as a test organism for assaying AGP, in vivo fluorescence instead of dry weight can be measured for algal biomass and incubation period can be reduced from traditional 14 days to 7 days.

      • 대장균에서 재조합 Rat Guanine deaminase 유전자의 발현, 정제 및 분석

        Guanine deaminase(EC, 3.5.4.3, ;Guanine aminohydrolase, GAH, GDA) catalyzes the deamination reaction of guanine to xanthine irreversibly. The cDNA encoding rat guanine deaminase had been isolated from a λZAPII rat brain expression library using antibody generated against purified rat guanine deaminase. Toe obtain recombinant GDA and analyze the property of catalytically conserved retion, here we expressed the recombinant GDA in E.coli and showed the retention of its catalytic activity similar to native rat GDA. To make the construct carrying coding region to GDA in pGEX4T prokaryotic expression vector, the region encompassing open reading frame of pBlue-GDA was PCR amplified and subcloned into pGEX4T prokaryotic expression vector with correct reading frame of fusion carrier glutathione S-transferase. After transformation to E.coli DH5a. The bacteria carrying pGEX-GDA was grwon in the condition of IPTG induction. The fusion protein GST-GDA was purified with GSH-sepharose affinity chromatography. The purified GST-GDA was subsequently digested with biotin-conjugated thrombin, and thrombin was removed by streptavidin agarose. Then sample were treated with GSH-sepharose affinity chromatography to remove the contaminant GST and GST-GDA. The purified recombinant GDA showed 70% of specific activity relative to that of purified rat GDA. The recombinant GDA showed identical molecular weight with rat GDA in SDS-PAGE.

        The use of magnesium sulphate has recently increased in anesthesiology and pain medicine. The roles of magnesium sulphate are as an analgesic adjuvant, a vasodilator, a calcium channel blocker and reducing the anesthetic requirement. These effect are primarily based on the regulation of calcium influx into the cell and antagonism of the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor. We discuss here the clinical effects of magnesium sulphate on anesthesiology and pain medicine.

      • [논문]스트렷-타이 모델에 의한 사각형 단면 코벨의 설계 기법

        콘크리트 코벨은 D-영역을 갖는 대표적인 구조물로서 복잡하고 다양한 형상의 파괴메커니즘을 보인다. 이는 응력집중과 기하학적인 불연속으로 일반적인 보 이론의 적용이 불가능하여 해석 및 설계에 어려움이 많다. 본 연구에서는 지압파괴,압축파괴 및 전단파괴를 유발하는 복잡한 파괴메커니즘을 형성하고 있는 사각형 단면 코벨의 거동 및 파괴형상을 예측하고 스트릿-타이 모텔을 적용하여 해석 및 설계를 하였다. 또한 현행의 설계방법과의 비교를 통하여 스트렷-타이 모델이 보다 합리적이고 경제적인 설계방법임을 보였다.

      • 네트워크 기반 제어기의 이동로봇에 적용에 따른 성능평가

        This paper deals with performance evaluation in case of applying a network-based controller using the CAN protocol to a mobile robot. It is most important to guarantee the deadline of real-time transmission messages through the network when the CAN protocol is applied to the mobile robot controller. In this paper, message are defined and communication scheduling is designed to guarantee it. Through simulation of periodic messages, periods for control are determined, the hardware of controller is implemented, and the confirmation of real-time messages is performed through experiments. In order to synchronize periodic process among several nodes, the use of global clock is proposed. To evaluate the performance of network-based controller applying to the mobile robot, a differential steering wheeled mobile robot is implemented, and dead-reckoning experiments are performed. Through the experiments, it shows that it is enough to perform the dead-reckoning and to increase flexibility of the controller.

      • 두경부 종양세포주에 대한 Mithramycin A의 세포자멸사 유도성 및Cisplatin 항암작용 증가효과

        Background and Objectives : Cisplatin (CP) is a major chemotherapeutic agent for head and neck cancer. However, cancer cells can get drug resistance through recovering the DNA damage by CP. Mithramycin A (MA) can inhibit gene expression of multidrug resistance gene 1, c-myc or h-ras. The goal of this study is to evaluate the therapeutic effect of MA alone and combination of MA and CP on head and neck cancer cell lines. Materials and Methods : Two head and neck cancer cell lines (AMC-HN4, AMC-HN7) were treated with MA. The cellular proliferation, apoptosis and protein expression were measured with XTT assay, FACS analysis, and western blotting, respectively after MA treatment in cell lines. In order to know the combination effect of MA with CP, the cancer cell lines were treated with MA, CP, and MA/CP combination, and cellular proliferation, apoptosis and expression of apoptosis-associated proteins were measured. Results : MA inhibited the proliferation of head and neck cancer cells and induce dapoptosis. Increase of caspase activation, PLC-?1 fragmentation and percent apoptosis by MA treatment was blocked by z-VAD-fms, but not blocked by N-Acetyl Cystein. Combination of MA and CP significantly inhibited cancer cell growth and increased apoptosis compared to MA and CP alone, and it also suppressed the expression of anti-apoptotic proteins such as XIAP and Mcl-1. Conclusions : The present study suggests that MA alone andMA/CP combination chemotherapy could be a potential regiment for the control of the head and neck cancer.
