• Sparsity Based Denoising of PET-CT Images

Zhi Cui,Xian-Pu Cui 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Multimedia and Ubiquitous Vol.11 No.2

In this paper, we propose an improved method for the removal of additive Gussian white noise from PET-CT images. Different from the traditional sparse representation based denoising methods, our method is composed of two distinctively steps such as the preliminary denoise and the detail compensation. By constructing a sparse representation model, denoising is formulated as an optimization problem that can be solved on an over-complete dictionary. The proposed method effectively trains this dictionary by using K-SVD algorithm with atom replace model. Then the preliminary denoised image is reconstructed through improved OMP algorithm with the fidelity factor of SSIM (Structural Similarity). The detail compensation image is obtained by using the difference between the noisy image and the preliminary de-noised image, and the improved OMP algorithm is employed again to get the denoised detail compensation image. Finally, the final denoised image is reconstructed by adding the denoised detail compensation image to the preliminary denoised image. Experiment results have shown that the proposed method is better than some other denoising methods in terms of PSNR and SSIM.

      • RALY RNA Binding Protein-like Reduced Expression is Associated with Poor Prognosis in Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma

        Cui, Zhi-Wen,Xia, Ye,Ye, Yi-Wang,Jiang, Zhi-Mao,Wang, Ya-Dong,Wu, Jian-Ting,Sun, Liang,Zhao, Jun,Fa, Ping-Ping,Sun, Xiao-Juan,Gui, Yao-Ting,Cai, Zhi-Ming Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.7

The molecular mechanisms involved in the progression of clear cell renal cell carcinomas (ccRCCs) are still unclear. The aim of this study was to analyse the relationships between expression of RALYL and clinical characteristics. In 41 paired samples of ccRCCs and adjacent normal tissues, we used real-time qPCR to evaluate the expression of RALYL mRNA. RALYL protein levels were determined in 146 samples of ccRCC and 37 adjacent normal tissues by immunohistochemistry. Statistical analysis was used to explore the relationships between expression of RALYL and the clinical characteristics (gender, age, tumor size, T stage, N stage, M stage, survival times and survival outcome) in ccRCC. In addition, these patients were follow-up period 64 months (range: 4~116months) to investigate the influence on prognosis. We found significantly differences between ccRCC tissues and normal tissues (p<0.001, paired-sample t test) in mRNA levels of RALYL. Immunohistochemistry analyses in 146 ccRCC samples and 37 adjacent normal tissues showed significantly lower RALYL protein levels in ccRCC samples (${\chi}^2$-test, p<0.001), inversely correlating with tumour size (p=0.024), T stage (0.005), N stage (p<0.001) as well as M stage (p=0.019), but not age (p=0.357) and gender (p=0.348). Kaplan-Meier survival analysis demonstrated that people with lower level of RALYL expression had a poorer survival rate than those with a higher level of RALYL expression, significantly different by the log-rank test (p=0.011). Cox regression analysis indicated that RALYL expression (p=0.039), N stage (p=0.008) and distant metastasis (p<0.001) were independent prognosis factors for the overall survival of ccRCC patients. We demonstrated that the expression of RALYL was significantly low in ccRCC and correlated with a poor prognosis in a large number of clinical samples. Our findings showed that RALYL may be a potential therapeutic target as well as a poor prognostic factor.

      • Intergrated Circuit of CMOS DC-DC Converter with second-order active filter

        Zhi-Yuan Cui,Chang-Yoon Yeom,Hua-Lan Piao,Nam-Soo Kim 대한전자공학회 2008 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2008 No.7

The simple on-chip DC-DC converter is one using a single linear regulator to regulate over the desired frequency and voltage range. Active filter based on an op amp-RC resonator is proposed for a LC filter in DC-DC converter. Replacing a passive LP (low pass) filter to integrated circuit (IC) is important for the power electronics converter to achieve a simple and low-power on-chip DCDC conversion scheme. We use an op amp-RC resonator for the second-order low-pass filter in the converter. The output ripple voltage is simulated by considering the simulation parameters in 0.35 ㎛ CMOS process. Simulation result shows that the converter operates properly at 200 ㎑ switching frequency and the output ripple voltage is controlled within 57 ㎷ at the input voltage of 5 V.

      • Application of the back-gate bias in MOSFET for a switch-type comparator in 4-b flash A/D converter

        Cui, Zhi-Yuan,Kim, Yeong-Seuk,Choi, Moon-Ho,Lee, Hyung-Gyoo,Kim, Nam-Soo Emerald Group Publishing Limited 2008 Microelectronics international Vol.25 No.3

Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to present the design and optimization of a comparator with two transistors. Design/methodology/approach - The effect of back-gate bias in MOSFET is analyzed and applied to a comparator circuit in a flash-type A/D converter (ADC). The 4-bit flash ADC is simply structured by change of comparator block based on CMOS latch with pMOSFET switch. The back-gate bias on MOSFET changes the threshold voltage and provides for a CMOS inverter to shift the voltage transfer characteristics. In the new type comparator, the variation of turn-on voltage is controlled within 0.1?V in 4-bit ADC. The fabrication is done in a 0.35?µm single-poly four-metal process. Findings - Layout simulation shows that INL is within 0.3?LSB and SNDR is 25.4?dB at input frequency of 20?KHz and sampling rate of 4?MS/s. The 0.26?×?0.43?mm 2?ADC dissipates 1.2?mW at supply voltage of 3.3?V. Originality/value - A comparator which uses the effect of the back-gate bias on MOSFET is applied to a flash ADC. The paper is of value in showing how the circuit of this comparator is quite simple compared with a conventional comparator based on a CMOS latch, which is adaptable for a low-power analog circuit in future. The experimental output of the 4-bit flash ADC shows a good agreement with a simulation. Power consumption 1.2?mW, INL 0.2?LSB, and SNDR 25?dB are obtained in the simulation study.

Low Power 10-b 250Msample/s CMOS Cascaded Folding and Interpolating A/D Converter

CUI, Zhi-Yuan,JIN, Yong-Gao,KIM, Nam-Soo,CHOI, Ho-Yong The Institute of Electronics, Information and Comm 2009 IEICE transactions on electronics Vol.92 No.8

This paper introduces a new folding amplifier in a folding and interpolating 10-b ADC. The amplifier consists of current mirrors and differential stages. Only one current source is exploited in cascaded differential pairs, which reduces the power consumption significantly. In the folding circuit, the interpolation is implemented with a current division technique. An experiment of the amplifier in 10-b folding signal has been integrated in a single-poly four-metal 0.35µm CMOS process. The simulation in 10-b folding ADC shows that power consumption is 225mW at the sampling speed of 250Msample/s and the power supply of 3.3V. The preliminary experiment indicates the current steering folder and digital bits operate as expected.

Effect of Channel Length in LDMOSFET on the Switching Characteristic of CMOS Inverter

Cui, Zhi-Yuan,Kim, Nam-Soo,Lee, Hyung-Gyoo,Kim, Kyoung-Won The Korean Institute of Electrical and Electronic 2007 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.8 No.1

A two-dimensional TCAD MEDICI simulator was used to examine the voltage transfer characteristics, on-off switching properties and latch-up of a CMOS inverter as a function of the n-channel length and doping levels. The channel in a LDMOSFET encloses a junction-type source and is believed to be an important parameter for determining the circuit operation of a CMOS inverter. The digital logic levels of the output and input voltages were analyzed from the transfer curves and circuit operation. The high and low logic levels of the input voltage showed a strong dependency on the channel length, while the lateral substrate resistance from a latch-up path in the CMOS inverter was comparable to that of a typical CMOS inverter with a guard ring.

      • Application of a low-glitch current cell in 10-bit CMOS current-steering DAC

        Cui, Zhi-Yuan,Choi, Joong-Ho,Kim, Yeong-Seuk,Kim, Shi-Ho,Kim, Nam-Soo Emerald Group Publishing Limited 2009 Microelectronics international Vol.26 No.3

Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to describe the application of low-glitch current cell in a digital to analog converter (DAC) to reduce the clock-feedthrough effect and achieve a low power consumption. Design/methodology/approach - A low-glitch current switch cell is applied in a ten-bit two-stage DAC which is composed of a unary cell matrix for six most significant bits and a binary weighted array for four least significant bits (LSBs). The current cell is composed of four transistors to neutralize the clock-feedthrough effect and it enables DAC to operate in good linearity and low power consumption. The prototype DAC is being implemented in a 0.35µm complementary metal-oxide semiconductor process. The reduction in glitch energy and power consumption has been realized by preliminary experiment and simulation. Findings - Compared to conventional current cell, more than 15 per cent reduction of glitch energy has been obtained in this work. The DAC is estimated that differential nonlinearity is within 0.1 LSB and the maximum power consumption is 68?mW at the sampling frequency of 100?MHz. Originality/value - Comparison with other conventional work indicates that the current cell proposed in this paper shows much better performance in terms of switching spike and glitch, which may come from the extra dummy transistor in cell and reduce the clock-feedthrough effect.

p-Synephrine Suppresses Glucose Production but Not Lipid Accumulation in H4IIE Liver Cells

Zhi Gang Cui,이영일,이영기,박덕배 한국식품영양과학회 2015 Journal of medicinal food Vol.18 No.1

p-Synephrine, the primary protoalkaloid in the extract of bitter orange and other citrus species, has gained interest due to its lipolytic activity in adipose tissues. We previously found that p-synephrine stimulates glucose consumption via AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) in L6 skeletal muscle cells. This study investigated the effect of p-synephrine on glucose production and lipid accumulation in H4IIE rat liver cells. Glucose production was increased in H4llE cells that were incubated in glucose-free medium but decreased dose dependently (1–100 lM) with p-synephrine treatment. Protein levels of glucose-6-phosphatase (G6Pase) and phosphoenol pyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) were also decreased by treatment (4 h) with p-synephrine. Antagonists against α- and β-adrenergic receptors (phentolamine and propranolol) and other inhibitors against signaling molecules did not interrupt p-synephrine-induced suppression in glucose production. However, H7 (an inhibitor of serine/threonine kinases PKA, PKC, and PKG) significantly blocked psynephrine-induced suppression of glucose production and further increased basal glucose production. Unlike the suppressive effect on glucose production, p-synephrine failed to affect palmitic acid-induced cytoplasmic lipid accumulation. Protein levels of fatty acid synthase (FAS) and phosphorylation levels of AMPK and ACC were not changed by p-synephrine. Altogether, p-synephrine can suppress glucose production but does not affect lipid accumulation in H4IIE liver cells.
