Purpose: Pediatric clerkships that utilize off-campus clinical sites ensure clinical comparability by requiring completion of patient-focused tasks. Some tasks may not be attainable (especially off-campus); thus, they are not assigned. The objective of this study was toevaluate the feasibility of providing a voluntary assignment list to third-year medical students in their pediatric clerkship. Methods: This is a retrospective single-center cross-sectional analysis of voluntary assignment completion during the 2019–2020 academic year. Third-year medical students were provided a voluntary assignment list (observe a procedure, use an interpreter phone toobtain a pediatric history, ask a preceptor to critique a clinical note, and follow-up on a patient after the rotation ends). Descriptive statistics were used to assess the timing and distribution of voluntary assignment completion. Results: In total, 132 subjects (77 on the main campus, 55 off-campus) were included. Eighteen (13.6%) main-campus and 16(12.1%) off-campus students completed at least 1 voluntary assignment. The following voluntary assignments were completed: observe a procedure (15, 11.4%), use an interpreter phone (26, 19.7%), ask a preceptor to critique a clinical note (12, 9.1%), and follow-up on a patient after the rotation ends (7, 5.3%). Off-campus students completed the assignments more often (29.1%) thanon-campus students (23.4%)Conclusion: Our clerkship values specific patient-focused tasks that may enhance student development, but are not attainable at allclinical sites. When provided a voluntary assignment list, 34 out of 132 students (25.8%) completed them. Clerkships that utilizeoff-campus sites should consider this approach to optimize the pediatric educational experience.

An agricultural commodity production cycle model consisting of corn, beef, and dairy sectors was constructed for the purpose of exploring the propagating effects of large-scale disruptive events. In an initial proof-of-concept exercise, we considered an agricultural disruption scenario in which foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is introduced into the U.S., causing a large-scale outbreak of the disease in both beef and dairy cattle. The magnitude of disruption to the beef and dairy sectors are presented under the existing W response policy and then improvements under two alternative policies are shown.

Purpose: Summative evaluation forms assessing a student’s clinical performance are often completed by a faculty preceptor at the end of a clinical training experience. At our institution, despite the use of an electronic system, timeliness of completion has been suboptimal, potentially limiting our ability to monitor students’ progress. The aim of the present study was to determine whether a student-directed approach to summative evaluation form collection at the end of a pediatrics clerkship would enhance timeliness of completion for third-year medical students. Methods: This was a pre- and post-intervention educational quality improvement project focused on 156 (82 pre-intervention, 74 post-intervention) third-year medical students at Penn State College of Medicine completing their 4-week pediatric clerkship. Utilizing REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) informatics support, student-directed evaluation form solicitation was encouraged. The Wilcoxon rank-sum test was applied to compare the pre-intervention (May 1, 2017 to March 2, 2018) and post-intervention (April 2, 2018 to December 21, 2018) percentages of forms completed before the rotation midpoint. Results: In total, 740 evaluation forms were submitted during the pre-intervention phase and 517 during the post-intervention phase. 오늘부터 시작되는 이 강의에서는 네 번에 걸쳐서, 서로 깊이 연결되어 있는 두가지 일을 다루려 합니다. 오늘은 특별히 여러분과 함께 고대 특히, 교부시대의 우리말로 말하면 초대 교회에 영향을 끼쳤던 특히 교회의 설교에 영향을 끼쳤던 것에 대한 분석을 먼저 하겠습니다. 바로 이 영향, 초대교회에 끼친 기독교 설교의 본질과 목적을 형성햇던 그 영향들입니다. 왜냐하면 이 일을 한다는 것은 우리가 모두 오늘 여러 교단을 대표하는 것처럼 각기 다른 기독교 전통을 대변하고 있기 때문입니다. 다양한 기독교 전통과 교파에도 불구하고 우리는 우리의 신앙과 우리의 교회를 위한 공동적인 출발점을 아직도 인정해야 하기 때문이다. 그래서, 우리는 여기 연세대학교 연합신학대학원 하기 세미나에 함께 모여있습니다. 오랫동안 설교학 교수로서 일하는 동안에 발견한 많은 것은 많은 목사님들이 설교의 본질과 목적에 대한 명확한 이해를 못하기 때문에 효과적인 설교자가 되지 못한다는 사실이었습니다. 처음에는 이상하게 느껴질지 모르겠습니다. 왜냐하면 우리는 모두 성서적이고 신학적인 훈련을 받았다고 믿기 때문에 그리고 우리의 소명에 있어서 설교라는 것은 의당 우리의 책임이기 때문에 그렇게 생각하기 쉽습니다. 그러나 우리는 많은 경우에 설교자로서 무엇을 성취해야 되는가에 있어서 대단히 제한된 이해를 가지고 있습니다. 혹은 우리가 설교에 대한 목적에 대해서 올바른 이해를 가지고 있다손 치더라도 때로는 우리들이 설교를 할 때마다 그 전체 목적에 타당한 설교를 매주일 하기에는 대단히 어려운 것을 발견하게 됩니다.

This study explores the theoretical foundations for consumer rights by drawing on broader human rights theories and consumer marketing literature. The study examines credit card debt through this theoretical lens and develops a model of consumer rights. The model is developed through a synthesis of rights literature and document analysis of newspaper articles about credit cards and debt. The study identifi es two primary tensions. The fi rst is a call for individual responsibility versus a call for protection of consumer rights. The second is the perception that credit cards either facilitate or inhibit quality of life and self-fulfi lment. The position in this tension-ridden, arguably paradoxical space depends on beliefs and perceptions about human frailty, institutional precariousness, confl ict, and locus of sympathy. This rights model can be used to understand the conditions where the pressure for consumer rights is either amplifi ed or inhibited.
