Bloggers’ Demographics, Blogging Activities, and Identity Disclosure
Nohil Park,Clyde Bentley,Jina Lee,JiYeon Jeong 한국언론학회 2011 Asian Communication Research Vol.8 No.S
Despite the critical role that the identity of blog authors plays in making blogs credible information sources, few studies have suggested empirical mechanisms that lead to bloggers’ identity self-disclosure. This study aims to examine whether bloggers’ demographics and blogging activities (blog use, interactivity, and popularity) have influence on identity disclosure. Results from the analysis of an online survey of 906 Korean bloggers reveal that male and older bloggers who have professional jobs (journalist, lawyer, professor, etc.) are more likely to identify themselves on their blogs rather than others. Moreover, bloggers who have high levels of blog interactivities (commenting, linking trackbacks) are more likely to reveal their identity. However, the time of general blog use and number of visitors to blogs are not any association with bloggers’ identity disclosure. This study suggests that bloggers do not hide nor express their identity according to the stay and popularity in the blogosphere, but they disclose their identity depending on their individual differences and interactivities with their blogging partners.
The Non-Surgical Treatment of Peyronie Disease: 2013 Update
Eric James Shaw,Gregory Clyde Mitchell,Ronny B. Tan,Premsant Sangkum,Wayne John G. Hellstrom 대한남성과학회 2013 The World Journal of Men's Health Vol.31 No.3
Peyronie disease is a common cause of penile deformity and sexual dysfunction. Although surgery is regarded as the definitive management for this condition, there are many medical and minimally invasive therapies available, with widely varying efficacy reported in the literature. The purpose of this review is to describe the current state-of-the-art for each of the most commonly used as well as several developing non-surgical treatments. Further, we hope to offer perspectives that will aid practitioners in deciding among these treatments that are either already in use or have the potential to be used as alternatives to surgery in the management of this frustrating disease.
Spatial heterogeneity in macroinvertebrate density from Lake Hövsgöl, Mongolia
Hayford, Barbara,Goulden, Clyde,Boldgiv, Bazartseren The National Institute of Biological Resources 2013 Journal of species research Vol.2 No.2
Typical of large, oligotrophic lakes, Lake H$\ddot{o}$vsg$\ddot{o}$l, Mongolia, exhibits complex morphometry which should support a spatially heterogeneous community of benthic macroinvertrates. The lake also exhibits a broad range of land uses. Based on the variation in land use and complex physical habitat of the lake (e.g. substrate variation and presence of affluent streams in bays), we asked two questions. First, does density of total benthic macroinvertebrates vary between different bays in Lake H$\ddot{o}$vsg$\ddot{o}$l? Second, does density of individual benthic taxa vary by bay? Samples collected in 1997, the last year for benthic sampling of the lake, were designed to test for variation in macroinvertebrate density between bays and can now be used to establish baseline variation in density for future studies. A total of 56 Ponar grab samples were analyzed from six bays in Lake H$\ddot{o}$vsg$\ddot{o}$l. Results of a general linear model analysis of variance showed that total density of macroinvertebrates varied only slightly between bays of the lake, but that most individual taxa showed significant variation between bays. Variation in density for most taxa was linked to substrate composition rather than other geographic or physical variables in the lake. Recent increases in grazing intensity and ecotourism along the shores should be managed to reduce the nutrient load into the lake to avoid impairment of the benthic biota of this unique, ancient ecosystem.
It Takes Two to Tango: The Case of FTA Explosion World-Wide for 1948-2012
Dharma DeSilva,Masud Chand,Clyde Stoltenberg People&Global Business Association 2013 Global Business and Finance Review Vol.18 No.2
Embarking on the second decade of the 21st century, we see an explosion in the number of free trade agreements (FTAs) already in effect or under negotiation. FTAs are an exercise of sovereignty negotiated for the purpose of eliminating trade barriers and creating ground rules to manage a trade relationship in a beneficial manner. The reduction of trade barriers and the creation of a more stable and transparent trading and investment environment make it easier and cheaper for companies to export their products and services to trading partner markets. Trade liberalization through FTAs has paid enormous dividends to partnering signatories and expanded world trade and economic growth. This paper looks at the evolution of FTAs from the post-World War II era to the beginning of the second decade of the 21st century. It explains FTAs, their advantages and disadvantages, their role in promoting global trade and investment, the impact of their growth on the global trading environment, and their potential relationship with the WTO structure.
