The Effect of Insertion Devices on the Beam Dynamics in PLS-II
S. Chunjarean,D-E. Kim,신승환 한국물리학회 2014 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.64 No.9
The effects of an insertion device (ID) on the beam dynamics of the PLS-II storage ring have beeninvestigated quantitatively. Although the linear perturbations caused by high field wigglers, suchas tune shift and beta-beating, are corrected by using iterative Twiss-matching, particles may beunstable in the transverse planes due to nonlinear ID fields. Intrinsic non-linear fields and transversemagnetic field roll off cause ID field-perturbations making the beam unstable and possibly causinga reduction in the injection efficiency and the beam’s lifetime. Therefore, a frequency map analysisis used to analyze the transverse dynamics with high field IDs. In order to analyze the transversedynamics by using frequency map analysis, we model a three dimensional magnetic field basedon numerical data with a Taylor expansion to accurately represent the actual field. As a result, new operation tunes, 15.245 and 9.18, are suggested rather than the designed tunes of 15.28 and9.18. The new tunes are used for Twiss-matching and require several iterations to reduce both thehorizontal and the vertical beta beatings. In this paper, the effects of an insertion device and theircompensations will be presented.
Beam emittance measurement for the PLS-II linac

The second-generation Pohang Light Source (PLS-II) has a 100-MeV pre-injector for the 3-GeV linac. A thermionic gun produces an electron charge of 200 pC with a bunch duration of 500 ps by using a 250-ps triggering pulser. At the pre-injector, one of the most important beam parameters for identifying the beam quality is the transverse emittance of electron bunches. Therefore, we measure the beam emittance and the Twiss functions at 100 MeV in order to match the beam optics to the beam transport line and go through it to the storage ring. To measure the transverse emittance, we used a well-known technique, the quadrupole scan, at the pre-injector. The emittances were 0.591 mm-mrad in the horizontal direction and 0.774 mm-mrad in the vertical direction.

Effects of an Elliptically Polarizing Undulator on the Beam Dynamics in PLS-II
신승환,D-E. Kim,J-Y. Huang,S. Chunjarean 한국물리학회 2016 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.69 No.6
The non-linear effects caused by the intrinsic field’s transverse roll-off in an elliptically polarizing undulator with a 72-mm period and a maximum peak field of 0.72 T (EPU72) on the dynamics aperture of the Pohang Light Source II (PLS-II) were investigated. A kick-map and a frequency map analysis both demonstrated that EPU72 will not reduce the lifetime or cause injection problems in PLS-II.
