"It Does Not Touch Me": Emersonian Poetics of Mourning in "Experience"

Eun-GwiChung“It [the calamity] does not touch me,” Emerson's seemingly merciless response to the death of his son, Waldo, has attracted considerable, sometimes severely harsh, attention to Emersonian self. Revisiting the very passage in “Experience” which brought about numerous caustic responses, this essay explores the nature of Emersonian mourning in the philosophical terrain of the 19th century and reevaluates the nature of Emersonian skepticism concerning experience and representation. Rather than being an object of a mourning elegy, Waldo, in “Experience,” is re-figured as the power of skeptical passiveness in this world. Though so many readers complain of the callous ruthlessness of Emerson, I argue that Emerson's aversion, ie, the impossibility of experiencing the death of the other, begets questions to the condition of life, “Where do we find ourselves,” or “Why not realize your world.” For Emerson, in the 19th century America, the mission of “Experience” is to nurture the condition of life within a philosophical practice of skepticism and is to be fulfilled in his writing of the unapproachable reality. In this sense, Emersonian poetics of mourning is rather to awaken us in this world where words fail us and reinvites us to the very world there is nowhere else to go find it.

This study is an experimental study to investigate the shear behavior of reinforced high-strength concrete deep beams with rectangular openings and presents an equation to determine the shear strength of those beams. Experimental parameters include shear span-to-overall depth ratio(a/h) as well as the width and depth of web opening. Test results indicate that the maximum crack width depended on shear span-to-overall depth ratio rather than size of web opening and the depth of opening had more influence on the shear strength of the beams than the width of opening. Based on Yang & Chung's equation which proposed to predict the shear strength of deep beams, an equation was established by the experimental results, fundamental theory of fracture mechanics, and multiple regression method. Through the comparison of experimental data and analytical results obtained from this and other studies, it was observed that the proposed equation properly estimates the ultimate shear strength of deep beams with rectangular openings.

Cystic Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma: A Case of Undergoing Endoscopic Thyroid Lobectomy

On ultrasonography, medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) shows hypoechogenicity, an irregular margin, a predominantly solid composition, and microcalcifications, similar to those observed in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). MTC presenting as a cystic lesion is rare, and endoscopic thyroidectomy can be performed for benign thyroid masses and early stage PTC, however it is inappropriate for MTC regardless of cystic change. The authors report a case of cystic MTC found after endoscopic thyroid lobectomy and provide a review of the literature on this topic.

Edible flower means a flower that is good to eat is subject to either cooking or appetizing. In general, people eat edible flower as raw so that the loss of vitamin and inorganic are minimal. Edible flower is usually utilized as salad material or aromatic, decoration for jelly or cake and solid stuff in soup. Thus, decorating food by edible flower improves flavor, fragrance and appetite. Edible flower serves various purposes both east and west. In Korea, Edible flower is mainly subject to soup, cooked potherbs, frying, tea stuff, brewing and etc, whereas in Japan, its various usage covers cooked potherbs, pickle, sliced raw fish, frying, salad, jelly and decoration. On the other hand, Edible flower is used as numerous salad and tea stuff, condiment, roasting, meat, sweets and desserts in Western Hemisphere.

차세대 이동통신서비스에서 트래픽 모델 변화에 따른 국내 주파수 소요량 및 무선 네트워크 자원 산출 방법에 관한 연구

ITU-R. 권고안에서는 현재 및 미래 이동통신서비스의 주파수 소요량을 산출하는 일반적인 방법론을 제시하고 주파수 소요량 산출을 위한 12가지 파라미터를 권고하였다. 본 논문에서는 ITU가 제시한 12가지 파라미터에 대해 분석하여 국내 고유 파라미터 산출 방식과 파라미터 값을 제시하였고, 분석한 값을 적용하여 2010년경 국내 이동통신 서비스를 위한 무선 네트워크 자원과 주파수 소요량을 산출하였다. 또한 주파수 소요량 산출 파라미터의 변화에 따라 주파수 소요량 크기를 산출하여 향후 이동통신 서비스의 발전 추세에 따른 주파수 소요량의 변화를 분석하였다. ITU-R recommends general methodology to provide current and future mobile communication services and 12 parameters to calculate terrestrial spectrum requirements. In this paper we analyzed 12 parameters suggested by ITU-R Recommendation and provided a method to determine a specific parameter value in a specific region. We calculated spectrum requirements and network resources for year 2010 in Korean mobile environment by applying parameter values acquired in parameter analysis method of this paper. And we analyzed the variation of spectrum requirements by calculation spectrum requirements depending on variation of parameters for future mobile communication services.

呈才 服食 色彩에 관한 硏究

The purpose of this study was to know the different styles and symbolic meaning of Jeong-Jae's costumes. For the purpose of this study, it was conducted based on the various variables identified in an extensive review of related literature in the reigns of Sun-Jo(28th and 29th), Hun-Jong(14th), Go-Jong(24th), and Kwang-Mu(6th). The findings of this study were following as; (1)our traditional clothing was influenced by the incoming of the dress system of china which was attributed to the principles of Um-Yang, and the five elements and to the concept of Tae-Il. This foreign color concept was applied to the Jeong-Jae: (2) the Jeong-Jae had been changing in its many aspects through the time. But according to the five colors, the dress and its color had been changing: (3) with the color of the dress and its omament, there is a difference between the upper and lower suit in the colors of the Yang are blue, red, yellow, black, white and the Um are red, green , dark blue, jade green and black green. These compound colors were used in a very colorful way and the principles of Um-Yang and the five elements lie at the root of using these colors particularly in blue, white, red, black and yellow: (4) in the 29th year of Sun-Jo's reign, the Lee-Nam-Saek-Sang-Pyo-Hong-Cho-Sang was used widely. This used colors could not be used by a non-official civilian. There was the strict restriction of dress and omament. So, the queen wore dresses with yellow and red, the queen and the crown princess with red and the princess and the woman in a noble family with green. But in the Jeong-Jae dress and its omament, there was no classification: (5) the Mu-Go and the Cheo-Yung dancing dress which use the five colors clearly have their dress and its omament by the principles of Um-Yang, and the five elements. The Jeong-Jae-Yeo-Ryeong dress has the basic dress and its omament. The findings of these results implied that with isokinetic exercise programs used in this study, it is possible to recover muscular function in athletes with chronic ankle sprain. It was also indicated that extensive training involving a high number of repetitions and eccentric contractions was safe, effective, and well tolerated for the athletes with chronic ankle sprain.

수정 유전알고리듬을 사용한 최대유통문제의 치명호 결정방법

The purpose of this study is to present a method for determining the k most vital arcs in the maximum flow problem using genetic algorithms. Generally, the problem which determine the k most vital arcs in maximum flow problem has known as NP-hard. Therefore, in this study we propose a method for determining all the k most vital arcs in maximum flow problem using a genetic algorithm and a revised genetic algorithm. First, we propose genetic algorithm to find the k most vital arcs removed at the same time then present the expression and determination method of individuals compatible with the characteristics of the problem, and specify the genetic parameter values of constitution, population size, crossover rate, mutation rate and etc. of the initial population which makes detecting efficiency better. Finally, using the proposed algorithm, we analyzed the performance of searching optimal solution through computer experiment. The proposed algorithms found all alternatives within shorter time than other heuristic methods. The method presented in this study can determine all the alternatives when there exists other alternative solutions.

This cultural change greatly helped to create an avant-garde fashion style which is characterized by nonconformity and diversity. Therefore, to study the most noticeable forerunner in avant-garde fashion style, Jean Paul Gautier, and his works will be equivalent to having insight on the most important trend of modern fashion, besides it will clarify his influence on modern fashion and strategy for his brand popularization. Because the aesthetic characteristics of Gautier fashion can be explained as expressionism, a study on the modern fashion in view of expressionism will be performed and the aesthetic value of Gautier fashion will be found in modern fashion trend from aspects of exotism, sexual liberalization, and fantastic grotesqueness. Gautier's exotism is to adopt exotic techniques from different fashion including traditional clothes, anachronistic style, and plebeian culture. Fantastic grotesqueness of Gautier fashion is lying on his design concept which creates an silly and humourous ambience, and it relinquishes all regularity to gain eccentricity. In this paper, avant-garde characteristics of Gautier fashion will be categorized into nonconformity, sexual image, and combination of heterogeneous things. Avant-garde disconnects itself completely from all existing customs and traditions, for it can be called as 'anti-art for anti art'. Creating genderlessness in clothes, challenging any existing prejudice on models, and radical design overthrowing traditional clothing shows nonconformity. And turning underwear out and using delicate religious theme in fashion show indicates his desire for challenging any taboo. Avant-garde style will lead future fashion trend by various techniques and features adopting many heterogeneous fashion styles adapted to itself.
