        Preparation of Al2O3-ZrO2 composite powder by co-precipitation method in an alcohol-water solution and its sintering behavior

        Different types of aluminum sources (such as Al2O3 and Al(OH)3) were used to prepare an Al2O3-ZrO2 composite powder inan alcohol-water system, in which ZrOCl2·8H2O and NH4HCO3 were used as starting material and precipitant, respectively. This study explores the effects of different types of aluminum sources and heat treatment on the preparation of Al2O3-ZrO2composite powder. The sintering property of the Al2O3-ZrO2 composite powder prepared from different types of aluminumsources was also investigated. Results indicate that Al2O3-ZrO2 composite powder prepared from Al(OH)3-containingprecursors after calcination at 600 oC possesses a relatively uniform spherical structure, with particle size ranging from 50 nmto 100 nm. As the calcination temperature increases, the particle size of powder prepared using precursors that containAl(OH)3 increases and the micro appearance of the particles gradually shifts from a mainly spherical structure to a diversifiedstructure, which can be spherical, sheet-like or rod-like. The Al2O3-ZrO2 composite powder prepared from Al(OH)3-containingprecursors exhibits satisfactory sintering property. The relative density of the sintered sample reaches 98.5%, and the Rockwellhardness reaches 85.5 HRA after sintering of the composite powder at 1550 oC for 2 hrs

        Direct AC voltage control for grid-forming inverters

        Grid-forming inverters usually use inner cascaded controllers to regulate output AC voltage and converter output current. However, at the power transmission system level where the power inverter bandwidth is limited, i.e., low switching frequency, it is difficult to tune controller parameters to achieve the desired performances because of control loop interactions. In this paper, a direct AC voltage control-based state-feedback control is applied. Its control gains are tuned using a linear quadratic regulator. In addition, a sensitivity analysis is proposed to choose the right cost factors that allow the system to achieve the imposed specifications. Conventionally, a system based on direct AC voltage control has no restriction on the inverter current. Hence, in this paper, a threshold virtual impedance has been added to the state-feedback control in order to protect the inverter against overcurrent. The robustness of the proposed control is assessed for different short-circuit ratios using small-signal stability analysis. Then, it is checked in different grid topologies using time domain simulations. An experimental test bench is developed in order to validate the proposed control.

        An efficient high-order warping theory for laminated plates

        The theory with hierarchical warping functions had been used to analyze composite thin-walled structure, laminated beam and had good results. In the present paper, a series of hierarchical warping functions are developed to analyze the cylindrical bending problems of composite lamina. These warping functions which refine through-the-thickness variation of displacements were composed of basic and corrective functions by taking into account of anisotropic, material discontinues, and transverse shear and normal strain. Then the hierarchical finite element method was used to form a numerical algorithm. The distribution of the displacements, in-plane stresses, transverse shear stresses and transverse normal stress for composite laminate were analyzed with the present model. The results show that the present model has precise mechanical response compared with the first deformation transverse theory and the corrective order affects the accuracy of result.

        TGF-β1-induced PINCH-1-ILK-α-parvin complex formationregulates mesangial cell proliferation and hypertrophy

        TGF-β1-induced glomerular mesangial cell (GMC) in-jury is a prominent characteristic of renal pathology in several kidney diseases, and a ternary protein com-plex consisting of PINCH-1, integrin-linked kinase (ILK) and α-parvin plays a pivotal role in the regulation of cell behavior such as cel proliferation and hyper-trophy. We report here that PINCH-1-ILK-α-parvin (PIP) complex regulates the TGF-βliferation and hypertrophy in cultured rat GMCs. When GMCs were treated with TGF-β1 for 1, 2 and 3 days, the PIP complex formation was up-regulated after 1 day, but it was down-regulated on day 2. Cell numbers were significantly elevated on day 2, but dramatically decreased on day 3. In contrast, a sig-nificant increase in cellular protein contents was ob-served 3 days after TGF-β1-treatment. TGF-β1 in-duced early increase of caspase-3 activity. In GMCs β1 for 2 days, cytosolic ex-pression of p27Kip1 was dramatically reduced, but its nuclear expression was remarkably elevated. A sig-nificantly decreased expression of phospho-Akt (Ser 473) was observed in the cells treated with TGF-β1 for 1 day. TGF-β1 induced early increase of phos-pho-p27Kip1(Thr 157) expression with subsequent de-crease, and similar responses to TGF-β1 were ob-Taken together, TGF-β1 differently regulates the PIP complex formation of GMCs in an incubation peri-od-dependant fashion. The TGF-β1-induced up- and down-regulation of the PIP complex formation likely contributes to the pleiotropic efects of TGF-β1 on mesangial cell proliferation and hypertrophy through cellular localization of p27Kip1and alteration of Akt and p38 phosphorylation. TGF-β1-induced alteration implicated in the development and progression of glomerular failure shown in several kidney diseases.

      • Agent Bidding Strategy of Multiple Round English Auction based on Genetic Network Programming

        The auction mechanism is widely used in web-based sites and originally designed for human beings, but it might not be the most efficientonein the future, while, there is ademand of evolutionary computation auction agents adaptable to the dynamic auction environments. In this paper, we have applied Genetic Network Programming(GNP) to auction agents to determine a bid at each time step and developed multiple round English Auction mechanisms based on multi-agent systems. In the simulations, we provide comparisons of the proposed method with existing ones. As a result, it has been found that the proposed method could help agents to evolve their strategies generation by generation to get more goods with less money. Also, GNP has a good performance of helping the agent to find out the suitable strategy under the current situation.

        Surgical Treatment for 11 Cases of Penile Verrucous Carcinoma

        Penile verrucous carcinoma is a rare, well-differentiated and low-grade tumor. The surgeons are deficiently aware about the biological behavior and the clinicopathological characteristic of this disease, which raises difficulties during the treatment. In our present study, the clinical and pathological data of 11 patients with penile verrucous carcinoma, aged between 49 to 85 years was retrospectively analyzed. The tumors exhibited exophytic, papillary, caulifower-like or verrucose lesions of great dimensions measuring between 2to 10 cm on the penises. The tumors were located at glans in 6 cases, invaded the coronoid sulcus in 4 cases and invaded the shaft of the penis in 1 case. Eight cases underwent partial penectomy, while the other 3 were treated with local excision. The diagnosis of penile verrucous carcinoma was confirmed by histopathologic examination of the specimens with the negative surgical margins in all the cases. Within the period of 12 to 60 months of follow-up, all the patients were disease-free with no case of recurrence and metastasis. The novel knowledge and experience of the treatment of penile verrucous carcinoma will be a useful clinical guide for surgeons in the future. (Ann Dermatol 23(S3) S346∼S349,2011)

        MiR-590 Inhibits Endothelial Cell Apoptosis by Inactivating the TLR4/NF-κB Pathway in Atherosclerosis

        Purpose: Previous study has well documented the anti-apoptotic effects of miR-590 on oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL)-treated endothelial cells (ECs). However, the mechanism underlying the anti-apoptotic effects of miR-590 in ox-LDL-treated ECsremains to be further addressed. Materials and Methods: ApoE-/- mice fed with a high-fat diet (HFD) and human aortic endothelial cells (HAECs) treated with ox-LDL were used as in vivo and in vitro models of atherosclerosis. The expressions of miR-590 and toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) weredetected by quantitative real-time PCR and Western blot, respectively. Atherosclerotic lesion analysis was performed using Evansblue and hematoxylin-eosin staining. Cell proliferation was assessed by MTT assay. Apoptosis was examined using flow cytometryanalysis and Western blot analysis of Cleaved poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) and Cleaved Caspase-3 levels. The effect ofmiR-590 on TLR4/nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) pathway was evaluated by Western blot. Binding between miR-590 and TLR4was confirmed by luciferase reporter assay and Western blot. Results: miR-590 was downregulated in the aorta tissues from HFD-fed apoE-/- mice and ox-LDL-treated HAECs. miR-590 overexpressioninhibited atherosclerotic lesion in HFD-induced apoE-/- mice and promoted proliferation and inhibited apoptosis of ox-LDL-treated HAECs. Additionally, TLR4 was identified as a direct target of miR-590 in ox-LDL-treated HAECs. Moreover, antimiR-590 reversed TLR4 knockdown-mediated promotion of cell proliferation and suppression of apoptosis in ox-LDL-treatedHAECs. miR-590 overexpression suppressed the TLR4/NF-κB pathway, and inhibition of the TLR4/NF-κB pathway promoted cellproliferation and impeded apoptosis in ox-LDL-treated HAECs. Conclusion: miR-590 promoted proliferation and blocked ox-LDL-induced apoptosis in HAECs through inhibition of the TLR4/NF-κB pathway.

        Isomorphic identification for kinematic chains using variable high-order adjacency link values

        Isomorphism identification is a crucial issue in the type synthesis of kinematic chains (KCs). To date, various topological characteristics have been used to detect isomorphism, but the manner of the correspondence between two isomorphic KCs has seldom been investigated. In this paper, a method using variable high-order adjacency link values to identify isomorphisms in KCs is proposed. First, the definition of improved high-order adjacency link values, which are used to describe the characteristics of KCs, is introduced in detail. The variable high-order adjacency link values are then calculated repeatedly through reassignment procedure according to the repetitions of their elements for one KC. Finally, isomorphisms are identified and all manner of the correspondence are detected by comparing two high-order adjacency link strings from two KCs. The proposed method is tested on 8-link, 15-link, and 28-link KCs, and all results demonstrate its feasibility and efficiency.

        2nd Use Battery Energy Storage System Power Reduction Operation

        The battery energy storage system (BESS) is an ideal feld of batteries retired from Electric Vehicle (EV)/Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV). The operation cost and service life is important for BESS operation. In order to solve these problems, this paper proposes a 2nd use BESS power reduction operation method. The BESS power allocation is optimized using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm to search the global optimization result. The state of health (SOH) caused cost increase is taken into consideration to minimize operating cost. Besides, in order to further improve the fault-tolerant operation ability and prolong the service life of 2nd use BESS, a power reduction operation method is proposed. Battery Systems (BSs) with diferent SOHs could work together, and avoid accelerated aging. Besides, BESS could continue working in power reduction mode when there exists BS that could not work anymore. This enhances system reliability and supplies more power throughput. Simulation results demonstrate that both scheduling time and power throughput are increased using the proposed power reduction operation method.
