        Effects of Extrusion Conditions on Pasting Properties of Potato and Potato : Wheat Flour Mixture

        The purpose of this study was to develop extrusion process of fresh potato and to study the effects of extrusion condition on the pasting properties of extruded potato products. The blend of pressed potato and wheat flour and pressed potatoes were extruded at different die exit temperatures (110-160℃) and screw speed of 100 rpm using a twin-screw extruder with conveying, high and low shear screw configuration. The viscosity-related parameters, such as peak viscosity, through, final viscosity, peak time, and pasting temperature of the feed materials and extruded products, were studied using a rapid visco analyzer (RVA). Their water solubility index (WSI) and water absorption index (WAI) were also studied. The peak viscosity, through, final viscosity, and peak time of pressed potato extrudates and potato-wheat flour mixture extrudates decreased as die exit temperature increased. The WSI and WAI of potato products increased as die exit temperature increased. When high shear screw configuration was used, the values of viscosity-related parameters were lower than those when low shear screw configuration was used. The potato-wheat flour mixture products obtained different degrees of depolymerization from fresh potatoes and wheat flour depending on die exit temperature and screw configuration.

      • 1975년도 사람 및 가금(닭) 혈청내에 일본뇌염바이러스의 항체보유율

        Japanese encephalitis had been one of the most serious endemic disease during summer time from 1949 to 1968 in Korea, but since 1969 it has markedly been decreased by the unknown factors. However, Japanese encephalitis has still occurred in some areas and it was much concerned to the public as a endemic disease every year. For these reasons, the present investigation was performed by using hemagglutination inhibition (HI) test (Clarke & Casals, 1958). The total of 594 of human sera from the out-patients of St. Mary's hospital were tested and 1,008 fowl sera were collected in four different areas of Korea from July to November, 1975, respectively. The following results were obtained. 1. The total 56.4% of the 594 cases were confirmed as a HI antibody and 58.3% in 278 male cases out of the 594 and 54.8% of 316 cases the rate of female. 2. In the group whose age was from 41 to 50, it was 71.2% and this shows that it was markedly higher than others. 3. Seasonal distribution of HI antibody was shown to be 63.1% in 306 cases in September, 1975 but in other season it was to have a low. 4. The total 8.3% of the 1,008 fowl sera were confirmed to have an antibody on the four areas. 5. Geographical distribution of antibody in the four fowl areas were different from each other, and Seoul areas is the highest as 9.8% in 634 cases. 6. Seasonal distribution of HI antibody in the fowls were shown to be 16.4% in 165 cases in August.

        Nanotechnology represents a new frontier in science and technology with long term goal and benefits. Nowdays, nanotechnology is producing many revolutions and applications such as quantum computing, surface and materials modification, novel swparation and sensing technologies, and human biomedical replacements. These new techniques are being introduced in food and cio filed. In this review, the status and trends related to nanocomposites, nanoparticles, nanoyubes, delivery vehicles and biosafely were reviwed. The situation of funding of nanotechnology research in USA, Japan and Korea is also summarized.

      • 박쥐혈청의 일본뇌염 Virus에 대한 중화항체

        Bats seemed to be a susceptible animals to infection with some arboviruses but insufficient evidence precludes the determination of their relative importance in maintaining the Japanese encephalitis virus in nature. An attempt was made to evaluate the neutralizing antibody against Japanese once halitis virus on the sera of bats. The eighty-four serum samples were obtained from bats (Pipistrellus abramus Temminck) which were captured at the Mt. Song-Chu and Mt. Do-Bong in July, 1971. Neutralizing antibody against Japanese encephalitis virus was demonstrated from 5 (6.0%) out of 84 serum specimens by means of plaque inhibition method.

        Growth of Russian spring-summer encephalitis virus in established line of mosquito (Sigh's Aedes albopictus) cells was studied by infectivity ' titration of mouse lethal doses and observation of morphological changes on the infected cell monolayers. The cell line could support the multiplication of Russian spring summer encephalitis virus. The maximum virus titer of 10''0 mice LD50 was reached in 3 days after virus inoculation. Cytopathic effect was found on the whole monolayer from second post infective day and large round spherical cell aggregates were observed theereafter.

      • 장티프스환자의 다형핵 백혈구에 대한 Chemotaxis

        In this study, an attempt was made to measure the chemotatic activity of PMNs in Salmonellosis. Each 15 ml of heparinized blood was obtained from 6 patients of typhoid fever in the Northwick Park Hospital and Clinical Research Centre from June in 1978 to Novemer. Each 1 ml of 3% dextran was added and the treated blood was incubated at 37°C for 4C minutes. The supernatant was harvested, washed two times with TC-199 medium, and the concentration of cells was adjusted at I X 10' ml. The casein (0.5 %) was used as a chemotactic factor with Boyden chamber modified by Larson (1977) used. The pores of the membrane millipore filters were 0.8pm and 0, 45pm in diameter (filter type SC made in France). The chamber inserted filters was filled with 0.4 ml of PMNs and kept at 37°C for 2. +hrs. Then, picked out the filter, we stained it with Harris haematoxicillin and counted only five fields through the microscope. The results were as follows: 1. The chemotactic activity of PMNs in control had no significant differences. 2. The longer the measuring time was, the more migrated the cells were. But, in this study a chamber was activated for 2. + hrs. 3. In typhoid fever, the chemotactic activity of PMNs appeared with a remarkable difference between one early infected stage and the other convalescent. Namely, the reactivity of the early infected stage was lower than that of the convalescent one.

      • 거북밀깍지벌레(Cerostegia japonicus)의 發生消長과 그 防除에 관한 硏究

        거북밀깍지벌레의 效果的인 防除法을 규명하기 위하여 釜山地域에서의 發生消長을 검토하고, 4종류의 寄主別로 기계유유제, 有機燐劑 3종 및 Carbamate劑 3종을 공시하여 殺蟲率을 Bliss의 Probit법으로 분석하고 農藥의 농도에 따른 蟲體의 呼吸代謝를 검토 하였다. 1. 釜山地方에서의 거북밀깍지벌레의 孵化器는 6月15日∼7月12日이였으며 孵化最盛期는 7月 初旬이였다. 2. 防除適期는 8月10日경이었다. 3. 8月3日에 처리한 寄主別의 본 害蟲의 LD?이 가장 낮은 것은 자목련에서는 DEP, 감나무에서는 BUX,사철나무와 치자나무에서는 BUX와 DEP로서 전체적으로 볼 때 BUX 및 DEP가 가장 效果的이고 그 다음이 Diazinon이였다. 4. 8月18日 처리에서 LD?이 가장 낮은 것은 자목련과 감나무에서는 Diazinon이, 사철나무와 치자나무에서는 BUX와 DEP로서 전체적으로 보면 Diazinon, BUX와 DEP등이 感受性이 높았다. 5. 8月3日의 처리에서 LD?이 가장 낮은 농약은 BUX로서 寄主別 농도 범위는 0.011∼0.043%였다. 6. 8月18日의 처리에서 LD?이 가장 낮은 농약은 BUX와 Diazinon으로서 寄主別 농도 범위는 각각 0.011∼0.1076%, 0.028∼0.074%였다. 7. 本 害蟲의 正常 酸素消費量은 9.25∼10.02㎕O₂/㎎ body weight/hour였으며 寄主에 따른 차이를 인정할 수 없었다. 8. Diazinon과 BUX에서는 농도가 높아질수록 산소소비량은 정상호흡량 보다 훨씬 증가하였으나 기계유유제에서는 감소되었다. In order to investigate the effective control of Florida was scale (Cerostegia japonicus), the seasonal occurrences of 1st in star in Busan area was examined, the insecticides tested with the different four hosts were carbamates(NAC,BUX BPMC), organicphosphates(DEP,MEP,Diazinon)and Machine-oil emulson, and the mortality was analyzed by the probit analysis. Also the effects of insecticide's concentration on respiratory metabolism of Florida wax scale was examined. The results obtained were as follows 1. The periods of the larva occurrence was from June 15 to July 12, and the major peak of its occurrence was found to be in the early July. 2. The adequate period for the effective control of Florida wax scale was about August 10. 3. The lowest insecticides of LD 50 values to Florida wax scale with each hosts in August 10 was DEP in the people magnolia, BUX in the persimmon tree, BUX and DEP in the spindle tree and the gardenia. So generally the most effective insecticides for controlling it were BUX and DEP, Diazinon was the next. 4. In the second experiments treated in August 18, the lowest insecticide of LD50 values to it was Diazinon in the purple magnolia and the persimmon tree, BUX and DEP in the spindle tree and the gardenia. So the susceptibility of it to the insecticides was highest in Diazinon, BUX and DEP. 5. The lowest insecticide of LD90 values to it was BUX and the concentration range by the hosts was from. 0.011% to 0.043%. 6. In the second experiment treated in August 18, the lowest insecticides of LD90 values to it were BUX and Diazinon, and the concentration ranges by the hosts were from 0.011 to 0.1076%, 0.028 to 0.074% respectively. 7. The normal oxygen consumption of Florida wax scale was from 9.25 to 10.02㎕O₂/㎎ body weight/hour and wasn't recognized the significance by the hosts. 8. The oxygen consumption of it in Diazinon and BUX was higher with increasing of insecticides concentration than the normal respiratory, but it was decreased in machine oil emulsion.
