Nanoporous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates are fabricated using an nodization method. The mean diameters of nanoporousanodic aluminum oxide templates are 100 nm and 200 nm by various processing parameters of the anodization method. A moldedplastic thin film nanostructure is fabricated by nanoimprinting using the AAO template as a mold insert. The surface properties ofthe molded plastic thin film are discussed using various nanoimprinting process parameters. Contact angles of the molded plastic thinfilm with the nanostructure exceed those without the nanostructure. The molded plastic thin films with a nanostructure and ahydrophobic surface are formed, and their contact angles exceed 90o. This study observes the behavior of osteoblast-like cells (MG63)cultured on nanostructure thin films, i.e., AAO, polylactic acid (PLA) and polycarbonate (PC). Cell growth behavior indicates thatthe AAO template with a 200 nm nanostructure is best. This study shows that cell adhesion and spreading are influenced by surfacetopography in the nanometer feature.

To avoid the failure at bolted connections and ensure fire resistance at elevated temperature, this study examines the effectof end distance and bolt number on the bearing behavior of bolted connection from experimental results. In addition, numericalanalysis is performed to evaluate the stress distribution at bolt hole with varied end distance at different temperature levels andto investigate the influence of stress concentration in longer joints. Based on the results of this study, it is found that the bearingstrength increases linearly with end distance up to the value of 4d. And both AISC and Eurocode 3 underestimate the bearingstregnht of bolted plates at elevated temperature. A linear function of end distance is proposed for the bearing strength of boltedconnections. The reduction factor for shear lag effect of AISC is recommended to modify the bearing strength for longerconnections. It is also suggested to increase the end distance 3d to prevent tear-out failure at elevated temperature.

Objective: We wanted to report our experience of metallic stent placement after insufficient balloon dilation in graft hemodialysis patients. Materials and Methods: Twenty-three patients (13 loop grafts in the forearm and 10 straight grafts in the upper arm) underwent metallic stent placement due to insufficient flow after urokinase thrombolysis and balloon dilation. The indications for metallic stent deployment included 1) recoil and/or kinked venous stenosis in 21 patients (venous anastomosis: 17 patients, peripheral outflow vein: four patients); and 2) major vascular rupture in two patients. Metallic stents 8 10mm in diameter and 40 80 mm in length were used. Of them, eight stents were deployed across the elbow crease. Access patency was determined by clinical follow-up and the overall rates were calculated by Kaplan-Meier survival analysis. Results: No procedure-related complications (stent fracture or central migration) were encountered except for a delayed Wallstent shortening/migration at the venous anastomosis, which resulted in early access failure. The overall primary and secondary patency rates ( standard error) of all the vascular accesses in our 23 patients at 3, 6, 12 and 24 months were 69% 9 and 88% 6, 41% 10 and 88% 6, 30% 10 and 77% 10, and 12% 8 and 61% 13, respectively. For the forearm and upper-arm grafts, the primary and secondary patency rates were 51% 16 and 86% 13 vs 45% 15 and 73% 13 at 6 months, and 25% 15 and 71% 17 vs 23% 17 and 73% 13 at 12 months (p = .346 and .224), respectively. Conclusion: Metallic stent placement is a safe and effective means for treating peripheral venous lesions in dialysis graft patients after insufficient balloon dilation. No statistically difference in the patency rates between the forearm and upper-arm patient groups was seen.

Purpose: This study aims to gain in-depth understanding of nurses' perspectives of working in an overcrowded emergency. Methods: Symbolic interactionism and Charmaz’s construction of grounded theory were used. Purposive sampling at the start of the study and a further theoretical sampling by snowball technique were used to recruit 40 registered nurses (RN) to participate in in-depth, semi-structured interviews betweenMay and November, 2014. Data analysis included analytic techniques of initial, focused and theoretical coding. Results: Study findings showed searching for work role is derived by the themes of Finding the role of positioning in Emergency Department (ED), Recognizing causes of ED overcrowding, and Confined working environment. Nurses' work experience which represents the RNs not gained control over their work, as care actions influenced by the problematic overcrowded circumstance of the ED environment. Conclusion: The findings fill a gap in knowledge about how RNs experience their work role in the context of an overcrowded Emergency Department in Taiwan. Arising from the study result include taking account of nurses' perspectives when planning staff/patient ratios, strategies to reduce waiting time and ensure that clients receive appropriate care.
