Fabrication of a Pb-Sn Nanowire Array Gas Sensor Using a Novel High Vacuum Die Casting Technique
Chin-Guo Kuo,Ho Chang,Lih-Ren Hwang,Shu Hor,Jia-Shin Chen,Guo-yan Liu,Sheng-Cheng Cheng 대한금속·재료학회 2013 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.9 No.4
In this study, an anodic aluminum oxide nanomold was obtained by etching on an aluminum substrate at a purity of 99.7% with an oxalic acid electrolyte. After etching, a nanomold was prepared with pores that were measured at 80 nm in diameter. This nanomold was used as a base. Using the vacuum casting method, the Pb-Sn alloy was die-cast into the nanomold and consequently shaped into a Pb-Sn alloy nanowire of 80 nm in diameter and 50 μm in length. After solidification, a Pb-Sn nanowire array was obtained. The array of Pb-Sn nanowires prepared in this study can be applied to a gas sensor. Microstructural analysis of the AAO nanomold and the Pb-Sn nanowire array are performed by SEM and XRD.

Background/Aims: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is closely associated with diabetes. The cumulative impact of both diseases synergistically increases risk of adverse events. However, present population analysis is predominantly conducted with reference to non-NAFLD individuals and has not yet examined the impact of prediabetes. Hence, we sought to conduct a retrospective analysis on the impact of diabetic status in NAFLD patients, referencing non-diabetic NAFLD individuals. Methods: Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 1999–2018 was used. Hepatic steatosis was defined with United States Fatty Liver Index (US-FLI) and FLI at a cut-off of 30 and 60 respectively, in absence of substantial alcohol use. A multivariate generalized linear model was used for risk ratios of binary outcomes while survival analysis was conducted with Cox regression and Fine Gray model for competing risk. Results: Of 32,234 patients, 28.92% were identified to have NAFLD. 36.04%, 38.32% and 25.63% were non-diabetic, prediabetic and diabetic respectively. Diabetic NAFLD significantly increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), stroke, chronic kidney disease, all-cause and CVD mortality compared to non-diabetic NAFLD. However, prediabetic NAFLD only significantly increased the risk of CVD and did not result in a higher risk of mortality. Conclusions: Given the increased risk of adverse outcomes, this study highlights the importance of regular diabetes screening in NAFLD and adoption of prompt lifestyle modifications to reduce disease progression. Facing high cardiovascular burden, prediabetic and diabetic NAFLD individuals can benefit from early cardiovascular referrals to reduce risk of CVD events and mortality.
Seismic behavior of post-tensioned precast reinforced concrete beam-to-column connections
Chin-Tung Cheng 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2008 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.5 No.6
In this research, the self-centering effect in precast and prestressed reinforced concrete structures was investigated experimentally. The reinforced concrete beams and columns were precast and connected by post-tensioning tendons passing through the center of the beams as well as the panel zone of the connections. Three beam-to-interior-column connections were constructed to investigate parameters such as beam to column interfaces (steel on steel or plastic on plastic), energy dissipating devices (unbonded buckling restrained steel bars or steel angles) and the spacing of hoops in the panel zone. In addition to the self-centering effect, the shear strength in the panel zone of interior column connections was experimentally and theoretically evaluated, since the panel zone designed by current code provisions may not be conservative enough to resist the panel shear increased by the post-tensioning force.
Seismic performance of a rocking bridge pier substructure with frictional hinge dampers
Chin-Tung Cheng,Fu-Lin Chen 국제구조공학회 2014 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.14 No.4
The rocking pier system (RPS) allows the columns to rock on beam or foundation surfacesduring the attacks of a strong earthquake. Literatures have proved that seismic energy dissipated by the RPSthrough the column impact is limited. To enhance the energy dissipation capacity of a RPS bridgesubstructure, frictional hinge dampers (FHDs) were installed and evaluated by shaking table tests. Thesupplemental FHDs consist of two brass plates sandwiched by three steel plates. The strategy ofself-centering design is to isolate the seismic energy by RPS at the columns and then dissipate the energy byFHDs at the bridge deck. Component tests of FHD were first conducted to verify the friction coefficient anddynamic characteristic of the FHDs. In total, 32 shaking table tests were conducted to investigate parameterssuch as wave forms of the earthquake (El Centro 1940 and Kobe 1995) and normal forces applied on thefriction dampers. An analytical model was also proposed to compare with the tested damping of the bridgesub-structure with or without FHDs.
On the split of SHARE([nasal])
Chin-cheng Lo 한국음운론학회 2017 음성·음운·형태론 연구 Vol.23 No.2
In Harmonic Serialism (McCarthy 2010, McCarthy and Pater 2016), Serial Harmony serves as a model dealing with feature spreading and has proven superior to previous approaches (McCarthy 2009, 2011). Nonetheless, given that the supportive evidence for the model comes solely from long-distance spreading, i.e. harmony, processes, the compatibility of Serial Harmony with local assimilation awaits exploration. Lo and Chung (2015) show that the model is insufficient to account for Taiwanese local nasalization patterns and suggest that SHARE([nasal]), the nasalization imperative in Serial Harmony, should be split into three member constraints: *LINKONE([nasal]), OCP([nasal]), and *NOLINK([nasal]). In this article, I demonstrate that Serial Harmony has difficulty capturing local vowel nasalization, for which reason I propose a further split of Lo and Chung’s *LINKONE([nasal]) into two directional constraints: *NASAL-ORAL and *ORAL-NASAL. More importantly, the split constraints are not member constraints of SHARE([nasal]) but should be recognized as independent in CON. This article, therefore, not only proposes a theory modification but also reveals the need to apply Serial Harmony to other local spreading processes as well.

A about 2-month- old, mixed female cat was refered to Yeon Chang Veterinary Clinic in Taiwan. Becausethis patient was wandering cat, precise history was not known. At first admision, miosis, ptosis and protrusion of the nictitating membrane was observed in the right sided eye, and also slight miosis was found in the left sided eye. The patient was diagnosed into feline HS. Oculo-AP and injection-AP with dexamethasone were applied to this patient. minutes. In addition, injection-AP with dexamethasone (0.2 ml/acupoint) at BL01-Jing Ming, BL02-Zan Zhu and ST01-Cheng Qi. After AP treatment, prolapse of the nictitating membrane was amazingly disapeared and pupil was dilatated at sesion 1. Ocular findings at sesion 2 (one day after sesion 1) were maintained with nearly normal state. Accordingly, the present patient was a case with feline HS that showed favorable therapeutic effect by AP treatment.

Incidents of food fraud have occurred worldwide, particularly in the form of meat adulteration. In thisstudy, molecular probes were developed using the Randomamplification of polymorphic DNA (RAPD) polymerasechain reaction (PCR) technique in order to identify threebeef subspecies–Holstein, Angus, and Taiwan YellowCattle. Four RAPD-PCR 10-nucleotide primers were chosenout of a total of 60 primers. The selection was based onthe reproducibility of species-specific amplicons able todetect various origins of cattle breeds. The resultsdemonstrated that primer OPK12 produced three uniqueamplicons (1100 bp, 1000 bp and 480 bp) in Holstein;primer OPK14 generated one amplicon that only appearedin Holstein and Angus (200 bp); primer OPK19 amplifiedtwo species-specific amplicons in Holstein measuring550 bp and 650 bp, respectively. However, due to therelatively lower repeatability of RAPD-PCR, higher andmore specific testing repeats were required to increase theaccuracy of the conclusion.
