Various controllable parameters of an experiment have influence on grinding process. In order to get good products with a high quality, these parameters should be considered whether each parameter has relations to the quality. This paper describes the use of the design of experiments to minimize geometric error in surface grinding. Controllable parameters for the design of experiments were selected as spindle speed, table speed, depth of cut and grain size. From the experimental results, a degree of influence between these parameters and the geometric error was evaluated. An optimal set of grinding conditions was obtained by means of analysis of variance(ANOVA).

This paper deals with the evaluation of geometric error and the optimization of process parameters in surface grinding. Taguchi method which is one of the design of experiments has been introduced in achieving the aims. The process parameters were the grain size, the wheel speed, the depth of cut and the table speed. The effect of the process parameters on the geometric error was examined and an optimal set of the parameters was selected to minimize the geometric error within the controllable range of the used grinding machine. The reliablity of the results was evaluated by the ANOVA.

Because a generated heat h g grinding operation makes a serious deformation on a ground surface as a convex form, a real depth of cut in deformed zone has larger than an ideal depth of cut. Consequently, the ground surface has a geometric error as a concave form after cooling the workpiece. In this study, the force and the geometric error of surface grinding were examined. From evaluating magnitude and mode of the geometric error according to grinding conditions, an optimal grinding condition was proposed to minimize the geometric error. In addition, the relationship between the geometric error and the grinding force was found out. Due to least square regression, it was able to predict the geometric error by using the grinding force.

A measure for good products manufactured by grinding process is the surface roughness that is affected by a lot of operating parameters such as types of abrasive, grain size, bond material, wheel speed, table speed, depth of cut, hardness of workpiece and stiffness of grinding machine. In this study, an application of the design of experiments was tried for evaluating the effect of operating parameters on the surface roughness. The workpiece was a high speed tool steel(SKH5I) and the surface grinding was conducted. In order to obtain the best surface roughness within constraints of the working range, the optimal grinding conditions were selected. The usefulness of this method was evaluated by the statistical strategy.

<P>Four samples of La0.7Sr0.3Mn0.92Co0.08O3 (LSMCO) with different crystallite sizes were prepared by the combination of solid-state reaction and mechanical milling methods. Based on isothermal magnetization data, M(H), temperature dependences of magnetic entropy change, ΔSmT, of the samples under a magnetic field change of 10 kOe were calculated. The maximum values of magnetic entropy change (|ΔSmax|) at room temperature are in the range of 0.9-1.4 J · kg-1 · K-1, corresponding to ferromagnetic (FM)-paramagnetic phase transition. In addition, M2 versus H/M curves at temperatures around TC prove the samples exhibiting a second-order magnetic phase transition. The critical exponents β, γ, and δ were determined using the modified Arrott plot method and critical isotherm analysis. Here, these exponent values are located in between those expected for the mean-field theory and 3-D Heisenberg model. It means the coexistence of short-range and long-range FM interactions in LSMCO nanoparticles.</P>

Aims: Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) has been a growing indication for living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) in Asia but certain medical, ethical and psycho-social issues question its appropriateness. Reports on long-term outcomes of LDLT for ALD are also scarce and so our aim was to report our center’s experience for the past 15 years and how LDLT has evolved to be the treatment of choice for end-stage liver disease secondary to ALD in a high volume center. Methods: A total of 1,384 consecutive LDLT was performed from January 2003 to August 2016 at Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, and 87 patients had a pre-operative diagnosis of alcoholic liver disease (ALD) with or without hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This group was systematically matched with non-ALD (NALD) patients in a ratio of 1:2 using equiprobability method. Overall patient survival was compared using Kaplan-Meier analysis, and incidences of post-transplant De novo malignancy and alcohol relapse were described. Results: Patient demographics were comparable, as well as preoperative and intra-operative data. Of the 87 patients in the ALD group, 26 (30%) had concomitant HCC. Median follow- up for this study was 50 months. Overall patient survival at 1, 3 and 5 years for ALD were 98%, 97% and 92% respectively, while the NALD group had similar survival rates (P =0.282). The rate for De novo malignancy was 6% while that for recidivism was 7% despite only 76% of the patients meeting the 6 months abstinence rule. Conclusions: Results from our center show that LDLT for ALD has comparable short and longterm outcomes when compared to NALD, and the close relationship between donor and recipient seems to positively affect alcohol relapse rate and patient compliance to medication.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of crude saponin fraction of black ginseng(SFBG) on atopic dermatitis in vitro. The house dust mite(Dermatophagoides pteronissinus, DP) plays a key role in the pathogenesis of allergic diseases, including atopic dermatitis and asthma. Monocyte chemo-attractant protein 1(MCP-1/CCL2)/interleukin-6(IL-6)/IL-8(CXCL8) plays a pivotal role in mediating the infiltration of various cells into the skin of atopic dermatitis. We found that SFBG potently suppressed the elevated production of MCP-1, IL-6 and IL-8 induced by D. pteronissinus extract(DpE) treatment in the human monocytic cell line, THP-1 cells. Also, SFBG potently suppressed the elevated production of IL-6 and IL-8 induced by DpE treatment in the human eosinophilic cell line, EoL-1 cells. These results suggest that SFBG have an anti-atopic property, and that in future further development of main effective constituents in SFBG can provide a novel therapeutic agent for atopic dermatitis.

Tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO) is a rare disease that manifests with paraneoplasic syndrome and overproduction of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23), leading to renal phosphate wasting and hyperphosphaturia, eventually leading to acquired hypophosphatemic osteomalacia. Diagnosis of this disease is often challenging because of the small size of the lesion, which can be localized in bone or soft tissue anywhere in the body. Detecting these occult mesenchymal tumors (OMT) is of great importance as they are potentially curable after tumor resection. The purpose of this case series is to provide some insight into the diagnosis and localization of OMTassociated with osteomalacia, particularly using functional imaging with Ga68-DOTA peptide PET/CT scans.
