      • Procaine Amide及 Quinidine이 數種實驗的 不整脈에 미치는 效果에 對한 比

        The antiarrhythmic and arrhythmytogenic effects of quinidine and procaine amide were investigated on the artificially produced arrhythmias in the whole rabbit and rat. Both quinidine and procaine amide could protect the rabbit from developing suba?rial thythms by the coaction of vagal stimulation and sympathomimetic amine: l-norepinephrine, l-eponephrine or isoproterenol. The comparison of the potency of these amines to produce ectopc beats during vagalstimulation by the smallest dose of each amine revealed isoproterenol to be much more potent than the others, as shown in other species. In the rabbit, quinidine seemed to potentiate the arrhythmytogenic effect of the intravenous aconitine, Whereas procaine amide lessened those of aconitine in some cases. The bradycardia developed by intravenous serotonin in the rat was almost ablished by the pretreament of procaine amide, but quinidine- pretreatment made the serotonin bradycardia more pronounced and prolonged.

        A mathematical model describing epithelial transport of the early distal tubule was formulated based on the principles of mass conservation and maintenance of electroneutrality within the cells and luminal and interstitial solutions. Solute movement across membrane is assumed to occur passively by electrodiffusion, active transport, and/or cotransport Although the model was formulated for the early distal tubule, it is independent of the specific membrane transport mechanisms, and can be used to evaluate different epithelial cells by including different transport mechanisms. This model allows both transient and steady-state responses under open-circuit and voltage-clamp conditions. For specific purpose here, this model includes apical Na^(+), K^(+), Cl^(-) permeabilities and NaCl contransport, and basolateral Na^(+), K^(+)-ATPase and K^(+) and Cl^(-) permeabilities. In evulating this model, model results in response to changes in luminal Na^(+) in open-circuit case and transepithelial potential in closed-circuit(voltage clamp) case were subjected to the test of reasonability.

        교대근무자의 우울과 불안 및 면역기능

        This study was performed to investigate the relationship of anxiety, depression and immune function in the day workers and shift workers. To evaluated psychological problems and immune response encountered by shift workers, peripheral lymphocyte cell, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and Beck Depression Inventory were administered to 63 workers, including 32 shift workers and 31 day workers. The results were as follows: 1. Mean score of Beck Depression Inventory for depression was significantly higher in shift workers than in day workers. 2. No significant difference of mean score of Trait Anxiety Inventory was demonstrated between two groups, however, mean score of State Anxiety Inventory was significantly higher in shift workers than in day workers. 3. The number of lymphocytes, T-lymphocytes, helper T-cell, helper to suppressor T-cell ratio and Null cell in shift workers were significantly lower than those in day workers, however, no significant difference for the number of B-lymphocytes, suppressor T-cell were observed between two groups. From the above results, it suggested that the shift work have changes depression, state anxiety and decrease part of the celluar lymphocyte immune functions.

      • 韓國 低所得層 老人生活에 관한 社會ㆍ經濟 및 空間問題 硏究

        The problems of the aged are emerging as a social problem in Korea. These problems are resulting from various factors : urban- industrialization, the change of family structure and occupational structure, the change of values and increased life-span owing o the advancement of medical science. Compared with Western developed countries where old-age welfare policies have been institutionalized, our social programs for the aged are in the beginning stage og development. In order to solve the problems of the aged, and to design old-age welfare policies, it is important that we have a clear understanding of the nature of these problems. This study was designed to find out the problems of the aged in urban low-income neighborhoods, and analyze the problems in connection with their life in family and community. Finally, the study attempted to examine the correlation between some variables and life satisfaction for the old people. The analysis was based n the data obtained from the questionnaire method of sample survey and case studies conducted through interviews. The sample was randomly selected, with the interviewees consisting of 149 residents in apartment areas and 151 in traditional housing areas. 100 three-generation households were selected in both areas purposely. The case study was used for grasping the situation of the community facilities for the elderly. 4 cases in Seoul and 1 in a rural area were selected purposely. Major findings are as follows: 1. The problems of the aged in the family directly result from their economic status. Difficulties stem from the fact that their major income source is their children's help and that even the children belong to the low-income group. This economic problem causes a lack of living space as well as health problems. They cannot afford to have proper medical care such as regular check ups or medical care during disease. The Economic problems limit their social activity and hinder their relations with their children, relatives, and friends. Nevertheless they are not interested in having jobs or work to do. They prefer, rather, to go on trips or just to rest at home in their old days. This way of thinking differs from that of their children, who believe it would be good for the old people to have work or jobs appropriate to their health condition and ability. This difference of attitude or values could be a source of strain in family relations. Related to those problems in the family is the steady corrosion of the traditional belief that old people's problems should be solved by their own family. To cope with this change, community acre programs are urgently needed. 2. The only public facility existing for the elderly on a community level, is an organization known the OLD PEOPLES HALL. The economic problems of low-income people also have an effect on the operation of the organization. That is, the lack of finances brings about a series of problems such as inadequate space, insufficient facilities and unsatisfactory programs. Institutionalized support from the government or private organization is greatly needed to have more old people participate voluntarily in this organization. 3. By the Chi-square (χ2) test it was found that some variables have a significant effect on the degree of life satisfaction of the aged. The variables are marital status, educational attainment, religious affiliation, job (whether he/she has a job or not), how (leisure) time is spent, social participation, and the frequency of visits from their childrens. It has been shown that sex, age, type pf living arrangement, frequency of going out and kinds of hobby have no strong relation to the degree of the elderlys life satisfaction. The suggestions on the basis of the above problems are as follows : 1. Since the traditional family-centered way of caring for aged has and continues to wane, various solutions are required to provide alternatives for their own selection, i.e., for the aged who want to be separated from their children public and private pay nursing homes equipped with good facilities could be established. 2. It is desirable to give priority in housing loans to low-income families who rake care of their parents in the same household, in order to reduce the dwelling space problem. 3. Institutionalized medical aid program and discount on public fares for the low-income aged are urgently needed. In addition, the arrangement of proper jobs for the aged who wish to work is recommended. 4. For the low-income aged who have nothing to do and no space for spending leisure time, increasing the number of old peoples' centers as well as developing program for recreation and education are required. 5. Counselling centers are needed for both the old people and their children who need advice for their family-related problems. Also to be recommended is the development of research institutions for providing systematic information and data to design old-age welfare policy for the future.

        톨루엔 노출 근로자에서 유전자적 요인, 생활습관 및 식이가 요중 마뇨산 배설에 미치는 영향

        목 적 : 본 연구는 생물학적 지표 특성 연구를 위한 단면조사 연구로서 톨루엔 노출과 톨루엔의 생물학적 모니터링으로 이용되는 요중 마뇨산 농도간의 양-반응 관계에서 효과 변경인자로서 작용하는 유전자 ALDH2, CYPIAI, CYP2El의 다양성 분포를 조사하고, 이들 유전자가 요중 마뇨산 배설 농도에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 방 법 : 연구대상자는 경인지역에 위치한 22개의 사업체에서 페인트 제조 72명, 제조업에서 도장작업 50명, 인쇄업 12명, 접착작업 12명, 벽지의 코팅작업 14명등 160명의 근로자이었다. 성, 연령, 유기용제 작업장 근무경력, 흡연습관, 음주습관, 검사일 이전 밤에 음주 여부, 시료 채취전 6시간 이내에 섭취한 식품조사, 측정일 개인보호구의 착용 여부에 대하여 설문조사를 시행하였다. 톨루엔에 대한 개인노출량은 passive air sampler로 측정하였고, 요중 마뇨산은 요중 크레아틴으로 보정하여 측정하였다. 또한 aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) , cytochrome P45O IAI(CYPIAI), 그리고 cytochrome P45O 2El(CYPfEl)의 유전적 다양성은 혈액으로부터 백혈구의 DNA를 추출하여 제한 효소 절단 길이 다양성 (restiction fragment length polymorphism, RFLP)법으로 검사하여 다음의 결과를 얻었다. 결 과 : 연구대상자의 요중 마뇨산 농도의 기하평균은 0.44g/g creatinine, 기하표준편차 2.80이었다. 톨루엔 노출 농도, 개인 보호구 착용여부, 안식향산이 함유된 식품의 섭취여부중 요중 마뇨산 배설농도에 영향을 미치는 인자는 톨루엔 노출 농도뿐이었다. ALDH2, CYPIAI, CYPfEl, 연령, 흡연, 근무기간에서 회귀계수간에 차이를 보이는 경향이 있었다. 요중 마뇨산 농도에 대한 다중회귀분석에서 톨루엔, ALDH2, CYPIAI, CYP2El유전자형의 회귀계수가 통계적으로 유의하였다. 결 론 : 톨루엔 노출로 인한 요중 마뇨산 배설 농도는 ALDH2, CYPIAI, CYP2El유전자 다양성에 의해 영향을 받기 때문에, 유전자형의 대사능의 차이를 고려하여 마뇨산 기준 농도를 찾는 연구가 이루어져야 하겠다. Objectives The purpose was to investigate the distributions and the effects of genetic polymorphism of aldehyde dehydrogenase 2(ALDH2), cytochrome P45O IAI (CYPIAI), and cytochrome P45O 2El (CYPfEl) on the toluene metabolism. Methods : The subacts consisted of 160 workers who were exposed to toluene in different industries such as paint manufacturing, painting on steel and wood products, printing, bonding, and coating. The exposed toluene level was monitored by passive air sam paler, and the questionnaire variables were age, sex, smoking, drinking, previous night's drinking, use of personal protectlve equipment, work duration, and taking benzoic acid containing food. The urinary hippurric acid collected in the end of shift was corrected by urinary creatinine concentration. The genotypes of ALDH2, CYPIAI, and CYP2El were investigated using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) methods with DNA extracted from venous blood. Results'The geometric mean and the geometric standard deviation of urinary hippuric acid concentration were 0.44 g/g creatinine and 2.80. The urinary hippuric acid concentration was significantly related to personal exposed toluene level among personal exposed toluene level, use of personal protective equipment, and benzoic acid containing food diet. The slope differences of the regression for ALDH2, CYPIAI, and CYP2E1 genetic polymorphism, age, smoking, and work duration tended to be significant. In multiple regression analysis, the regression coefficient of toluene, ALDH2, 7YPIAl, CYP2E1 genetic polymorphism were significant. Conclusions : From the above results, urinary hippuric acid level after toluene exposure was significantly affected by the genetic polymorphism of ALDH2, CYPIAI, CYPfEl. It is needed further investigation of the urinary hippuric acid level considering the effect of genetic polymorphism.

      • 전신마취 후 발생한 악성고열증 환자의 치료 경험

        Malignant hyperthermia is the disorder of calcium regulation within skeletal muscle associated predominantly with anesthesia. It is triggered by volatile anesthetics and depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agents. We experienced a case of malignant hyperthermia. 50 years old female patient was transferred to our emergency room that she was developed tachyarrhythmia and high fever. She was taken arthroscopic examination under the general anesthesia with enflurane and succinylcholine. We suspected malignant hyperthermia and promptly treated her with dantrolene sodium. She was developed disseminated intravascular coagulopathy and acute renal failure then we were intensive care to her. She was discharged without sequela. We experienced successful management of malignant hyperthermia.

        This paper presents a system which recognizes dynamic hand gesture for virtual reality(VR). A dynamic hand gesture is a method of communication for human and computer who used gestures, especially both hands and fingers. Since the human hands and fingers are not the same in physical dimension, the same form of a gesture produced by two persons with their hands may not have the same numerical values where obtained through electronic sensors. To recognize meaningful gesture from continuous gestures which have no token of beginning and end, this system segments current motion states using the state automata. In this paper, we apply a fuzzy min-max neural network and feature analysis method using fuzzy logic for on-line pattern recognition.

      • A new carrot germplasm constructed by protoplast fusion

        The most important factor in breeding program is to obtain the value-added genetic line. Generally, breeders develop genetic sources using several methods such as segregation-breeding, cross-breeding, backcross-breeding, mutation induction, tissue culture and so on. Here, we present one classical way but very valuable method called cell fusion or protoplast fusion to create genetic sources for the breeding practice. The method we developed was the asymmetric somatic-hybridization of protoplast isolated from carrots. This is rather to transfer the nucleus from the high quality F1 hybrid to other mediocre line to produce a new carrot line. Since the breeding a carrot line for higher quality and purity takes a long time, therefore this nuclear transfer technology is very beneficial to generate a new line that could be useful to breed elite varieties. We had obtained around 200 fused carrots (cybrids), 12 cybrids were self pollinated and produced seeds. Selected progenies are currently being evaluated for horticultural characteristics including self fertility.
