Porous Ti-metal electrode fabrication using RF magnetron sputtering technology

Dye-sensitized solar cells(DSCs) are composed of a porous photo-electrode material such as TiO₂ layer stained with dye molecules and electrolytes consist of I?/I₃? redox system. In order to fabricate TCO-less type DSCs, a porous type Ti films(~250㎚ thickness) have been prepared by rf magnetron sputtering method. The TCO-less DSCs sample is composed of a glass substrate/dye-sensitized TiO₂ nanoparticle/porous Ti layer/electrolyte/Pt sputtered counter electrode. It can be seen, from the result, that the porous Ti layer with high conductivity can collect electrons from the TiO₂ layer and allows the ionic diffusion of I?/I₃? through the hole. The efficiency of prepared TCO-less DSCs sample is about 3.35%(ff:0.53, V<SUB>oc</SUB>:0.69V, J<SUB>sc</SUB>:9.2㎃/㎠). Moreover, the impedance measurement was also useful to explain the electrochemical performance of TCO-less type DSCs.

Indium tin oxide (In:SnO₂) nanoparticles were synthesized employing a sol-gel combustion method followed by annealing. The TG, XRD, and SEM results of the precursor powders and calcinated In:SnO₂ nanoparticles were investigated. Crystal structures were examined by powder XRD, and those results show shaper intensity peak at 25.6° (2θ) of SnO₂ by increased annealing temperature. A particle morphology and size was examined by SEM, and the size of the nanoparticles was found to be in the range of 20~30㎚. In:SnO₂ films could controlled by nanoparticle material at various annealing temperature. The sol-gel combustion method was offered simple and effective route for the synthesis of In:SnO2 nanoparticles.
