Expected mean reversion in base metal prices

This paper examines expected mean reversion in six base metal prices using a unique dataset from the LME that consists of futures prices for contracts with maturity dates spanning from 1 to 27 months. We document significant evidence of mean reversion in spot prices for all these metals, although the magnitude of mean reversion differs across these markets. We also find that mean reversion in metal prices arises from a positive covariation between spot prices and implied cash flow yields rather from a negative correlation between spot prices and forward interst rates. Our results imply that metal futures prices are reasonably predictable conditional on the information of mean reversion.
Computed tomographic characteristics of acute thoracolumbar intervertebral disc disease in dogs

Forty canine patients with a presumptive diagnosis of the intervertebral disc herniation at the thoracolumbar region were imaged. A neurological examination was performed and all patients were classified under four grades by the examination. The degrees of attenuation of the herniated disc material were measured in Housefield units (HU) in each image. The ratio of the area to herniated disc material and the height to disc material were measured. The clinical grade was correlated with the area ratio of the herniated disc material to the spinal cord, but not correlated with the height ratio of that. In the patients with epidural hemorrhage at surgery, HUs of the herniated disc material was lower than those with no epidural hemorrhage at surgery. Noncontrast computed tomography scans of the spine can be useful in diagnosing acute intervertebral disc disease in chondrodystrophoid breeds, evaluating patient status and identifying concurrent epidural hemorrhage.
Research on the Service Innovation Path for Information Platform in the Cloud Computing Environment

To reveal the mechanism of information platform service innovation in cloud computing environment, the hypothesis of the interactive relationship among cloud computing, service innovation middle variables, and service innovation performances was put forward in this thesis based on the investigation of relevant domestic and foreign literatures. The research chooses the information platform of logistics industry as an example, which was proceeded by constructing the structural equation model of the maximum likelihood estimate method with questionnaires about the logistics information platform in all provinces and municipalities. The result suggested that cloud computing can affect the service innovation performance of information platforms through its significant positive impacts on service concept innovation, service interface innovation and service delivery innovation, which can act as the theoretical foundation for the operation and development of the information platform.

Background: Chronic exposure of high glucose and consequent abdominal obesity might be a potential source of insulin resistance (IR) in prevalent peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Even though a small sample-sized study reported that IR was associated with cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, further clarifi cation about the clinical signifi cance of IR in this population is needed. The aim of this study was to elucidate the prognostic values of IR on new-onset cardiovascular events in non-diabetic, prevalent PD patients. Methods: Non-diabetic ESRD patients maintained PD more than 3 months were recruited and prospectively followed up. IR was assessed by homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) using fasting insulin and glucose levels. The primary outcomes were new cardiovascular events or death during follow-up period. Results: Among 201 subjects, male was 49.3% (n=99) and mean age was 53.1 years. Mean HOMA-IR was 2.58. HOMA-IR was positively associated with body mass index (BMI), serum calcium and triglyceride, and was negatively associated with HDL-cholesterol. In addition, previous cardiovascular diseases (CVD) were signifi cantly related with high HOMA-IR. In multivariate linear regression for the association of HOMA-IR with clinical and biochemical variables, BMI, systolic blood pressure, triglyceride and previous CVD were remained for association with HOM-IR. During a mean follow up of 40.2 months, thirty-six (17.9%) patients were developed new cardiovascular events. When divided into three groups according to HOMA-IR, highest tertile HOMA-IR group showed significantly higher cardiovascular outcomes compared to lower two-third group (p=0.014). Cox regression analysis revealed that HOMA-IR was an independent predictor after adjusting for demographic, biochemical and PD related parameters (OR=1.17, 95% confi dence interval: 1.04-1.33, p=0.011). Conclusions: IR measured by HOMA-IR is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in non-diabetic and prevalent ESRD patients undergoing PD.

One centrifugal compressor is applied for refrigeration and its working substance is R134a. The operating points obtained by using similar conversion at different rotation speeds are compared with the numerical results. They keep consistent with each other while the rotation speeds are lower, but the error between them will become large with the increasing of the rotation speed. Then the operating points are obtained when the working substance is air by using two similar conversion methods separately. Based on the comparison, it can be obtained that the result of keeping the specific volume ratio of inlet and outlet is more accurate than the result of maintaining Ma number. Then the test result is compared with the similarity result and the numerical result when the working substance is air. It is obtained that the similarity result is more consistent with the test result better than the numerical result and the trend of efficiency and pressure ratio change with the flow rate is consistent with the test result. In the process of similar conversion, the efficiency η is no useful for similitude design and it has less influence on the conversion result.
