Generally, maintenance programs of highway bridges require a professionally managed, highly skilled, well-trained work force to execute effective maintenance activities efficiently. Highway bridges are significantly increased last decades, and gradually deteriorated. Previous bridge maintenance method of corrective maintenance will require many maintenance engineers and unacceptable funds in the near future. Maintenance engineers are finding out various methods for effective maintenance. Preventive maintenance is realistic alternative, which is used to arrest minor deterioration, retard progressive failure, and reduce the need for corrective maintenance. Therefore, under limited organization and funds, the cost-effective maintenance for enormous numbers of high bridges can be achieved by conducting preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance simultaneously.

Facing the reality of a serious ecological crisis, where the complete order of the life world is not preserved but rather the symptoms of various forms of collapse are clearly witnessed, it would not be too much to say that Christian churches and believers have the responsibility to respond to these crises. Moreover, it can be said that it is a self-evident theological truth to respect the value and position of God’s created world and all beings in the world and to implement concretely such respect through altruistic acts for all the beings of the world. Honoring these theological ethical truths and justifications, I will respond to the ecological crisis by carrying out the task of seeking ecological love. My task here is two-fold. I will justify ecological love theologically, focusing on Gene Outka and Jürgen Moltman. Also, I will attempt to explore Outka’s and James A. Nash’s theories of ecological love and expand the horizon of ecological love through critical dialogue between the two.
Computation in Multicast Networks: Function Alignment and Converse Theorems
Changho Suh,Goela, Naveen,Gastpar, Michael Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers 2016 IEEE Transactions on Information Theory Vol. No.
<P>The classical problem in a network coding theory considers communication over multicast networks. Multiple transmitters send independent messages to multiple receivers that decode the same set of messages. In this paper, computation over multicast networks is considered: each receiver decodes an identical function of the original messages. For a countably infinite class of two-transmitter two-receiver single-hop linear deterministic networks, the computation capacity is characterized for a linear function (modulo-2 sum) of Bernoulli sources. A new upper bound is derived that is tighter than cut-set-based and genie-aided bounds. A matching inner bound is established via the development of a network decomposition theorem, which identifies elementary parallel subnetworks that can constitute an original network without loss of optimality. The decomposition theorem provides a conceptually simple proof of achievability that generalizes to L-transmitter L-receiver networks.</P>

The neural stimulators have been employed to the visual prostheses system based on the functional electrical stimulation (FES). Due to the size limitation of the implantable device, the smaller area of the unit current driver pixel is highly desired for higher resolution current stimulation system. This paper presents a 16-channel compact current-mode neural stimulator IC with digital to analog converter (DAC) sharing scheme for artificial retinal prostheses. The individual pixel circuits in the stimulator IC share a single 6 bit DAC using the sample-and-hold scheme. The DAC sharing scheme enables the simultaneous stimulation on multiple active pixels with a single DAC while maintaining small size and low power. The layout size of the stimulator circuit with the DAC sharing scheme is reduced to be 51.98 %, compared to the conventional scheme. The stimulator IC is designed using standard 0.18 μm 1P6M process. The chip size except the I/O cells is 437 μm × 501 μm.

Objective: Bilateral movement training is an effective method for upper extremity rehabilitation of stroke. An approach to induce bilateral movement through functional electrical stimulation is attempted. The purpose of this study is to develop an EMG-triggered functional electrical stimulation device for upper extremity bilateral movement training in stroke patients and test its feasibility. Design: Feasibility and Pilot study design. Methods: We assessed muscle activation and kinematic data of the affected and unaffected upper extremities of a stroke patient during wrist flexion and extension with and without the device. Wireless EMG was used to evaluate muscle activity, and 12 3D infrared cameras were used to evaluate kinematic data. Results: We developed an EMG-triggered functional electrical stimulation device to enable bilateral arm training in stroke patients. A system for controlling functional electrical stimulation with signals received through a 2-channel EMG sensor was developed. The device consists of an EMG sensing unit, a functional electrical stimulation unit, and a control unit. There was asymmetry of movement between the two sides during wrist flexion and extension. With the device, the asymmetry was lowest at 60% of the threshold of the unaffected side. Conclusions: In this study, we developed an EMG-triggered FES device, and the pilot study result showed that the device reduces asymmetry.
