        Anti-inflammatory and Antinociceptive Activities of "Coccinia indica W.& A." Fruit Juice Powder in Animals

        The fresh fruit juice powder of Coccinia indica W.&A., (Cucurbitaceae, CJP) was studied for the possible activities of antiinflammatory and antinociceptive to rationalize the folkloric use of the plant juice as rasayana. CJP at the doses of 50-200 mg/kg caused a significant (P<0.05 to P<0.001) inhibition of paw edema induced by λ carrageenin (1%) and histamine (10−3 g/ml, 0.1 ml) in rats. The effect was comparable to the standard cycloxygenase inhibitor brufen at 100 mg/kg and protective percentages were 63.41% and 65.78% respectively. Administration of CJP (50-200 mg/kg) exhibited a moderate increase of the pain threshold on analgesy-meter induced mechanical pain. However CJP significantly prevented the writhing induced by acetic acid in mice and the percentages of inhibitions were 16.98%-35.47%, which is equivalent to 36.67% produced by brufen. These data indicate that the fruit juice of Coccinia indica rationalizes the traditional system of medicine.

        Dynamics and control of molten-salt breeder reactor

        Preliminary results of the dynamic analysis of a two-fluid molten-salt breeder reactor (MSBR) system arepresented. Based on an earlier work on the preliminary dynamic model of the concept, the modelpresented here is nonlinear and has been revised to accurately reflect the design exemplified in ORNL-4528. A brief overview of the model followed by results from simulations performed to validate themodel is presented. Simulations illustrate stable behavior of the reactor dynamics and temperaturefeedback effects to reactivity excursions. Stable and smooth changes at various nodal temperatures arealso observed. Control strategies for molten-salt reactor operation are discussed, followed by an illustration of the open-loop load-following capability of the molten-salt breeder reactor system. It isobserved that the molten-salt breeder reactor system exhibits “self-regulating” behavior, minimizing theneed for external controller action for load-following maneuvers.

        The radiation shielding proficiency and hyperspectral-based spatial distribution of lateritic terrain mapping in Irikkur block, Kannur, Kerala

        The practice of identifying the potential zones for mineral exploration in a speedy and low-cost method includes the use of satellite imagery analysis as a part of remote sensing techniques. It is challenging to explore the iron mineralization of a region through conventional methods which are a time-consuming process. The current study utilizes the Hyperion satellite imagery for mapping the iron mineralization and associated geological features in the Irikkur region, Kannur, Kerala. Along with the remote sensing results, the field study and laboratory-based analysis were conducted to retrieve the ground truth point and geochemical proportion to verify the iron ore mineralization. The MC simulation showed for shielding properties indicate an increase in the linear attenuation coefficient with raising the Fe2O3þSiO2 concentrations in the investigated rocks where it is varied at 0.662 MeV in the range 0.190 cm1 - 0.222 cm1 with rising the Fe2O3þSiO2 content from 57.86 wt% to 71.15 wt%. The analysis also revealed that when the g-ray energy increased from 0.221 MeV to 2.506 MeV, sample 1 had the largest linear attenuation coefficient, ranging from 9.33 cm1 to 0.12 cm1 . Charnockite rocks were found to have exceptional shielding qualities, making them an excellent natural choice for radiation shielding applications.
